Dear Shrine Faithful,
Happy Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary and of the Presentation of Our Lord in the Temple. This marks the 40th day after Christmas and thus the end of the full Christmas season. Our Lord has left the Manger, as it were, and is brought to the Temple. Just as in the 4th Joyful mystery, we pray for the obedience to the Will of God and for the virtue of Purity on this feast day. Jesus Christ and His Blessed Mother serve as perfect examples. May we imitate their humble obedience and seek to have their purity shine in our souls and eyes.
Saturday, February 8th is coming soon! Mark your calendars for the riveting presentation that will be offered at 3pm by Mr. Heyer on the Architectural World of St. Francis de Sales. Venite!
I leave you with an excerpt from Dom Gueranger on an aspect of the feast we celebrate today:
“Mary, guided by the same Divine Spirit, welcomes the saintly old man, and puts into his trembling arms the dear object of her love, the Salvation of the world. Happy Simeon! figure of the ancient world, grown old in its expectation, and near its end. No sooner had he received the sweet Fruit of Life, than his youth is renewed as that of the eagle, and in his person is wrought the transformation, which was to be granted to the whole human race. He cannot keep silence - he must sing a Canticle - he must do as the Shepherds and Magi had done, he must give testimony: “Now,” says he, “now, O Lord, thou dost dismiss thy servant in Peace, because my eyes have seen thy Salvation, which thou hast prepared - a Light that is to enlighten the Gentiles, and give glory to thy people Israel.”
In Christo Rege,
Canon Michael Stein
