The children described the apparion as “the lady more brilliant than the sun” and reported that Mary had told them on each occasion to pray the rosary daily to obtain peace and bring an end to World War I. The apparions were declared worthy of belief by a Bishop in 1930 and in 1946, Pope Pius XII granted a canonical coronaon to the venerated image enshrined at the Chapel of the Apparions of Fama. In 1954, Pope Pius XII elevated the status of the Sanctuary of Fama to a Minor Basilica. To this day, Catholics all over the world parcipate in pilgrimages to Fama. As part of the Parish visit we were very fortunate to have the statue of our Lady of Fama visit our school this morning and spend a few hours in our Chapel. The children formed a guard of honour as the Statue made its way via a procession into the Chapel. The Year 4-6 classes and PP – Year 3 classes spent two separate sessions in the Chapel praying the rosary and listened to a talk about the statue from the missionary sisters who are travelling with the statue on this Pilgrimage. Dear Parents,

OUR LADY OF FATIMA STATUE PILGRIMAGE

In 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mary is said to have appeared six times as an apparition to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal. The children described the apparition as “the lady more brilliant than the sun” and reported that Mary had told them on each occasion to pray the rosary daily to obtain peace and bring an end to World War I. The apparitions were declared worthy of belief by a Bishop in 1930 and in 1946, Pope Pius XII granted a canonical coronation to the venerated image enshrined at the Chapel of the Apparitions of Fatima. In 1954, Pope Pius XII elevated the status of the Sanctuary of Fatima to a Minor Basilica. To this day, Catholics all over the world participate in pilgrimages to Fatima. Since that time, Mary our Mother has also been known as Our Lady of Fatima and Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Fatima.

In 2017, to mark the 100th anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima’s apparitions, Pope Francis blessed six statues to be sent around the world to each continent. Holy Family Parish, Kalamunda are hosting one of these very special statues. As part of the Parish visit we were very fortunate to have the statue of our Lady of Fatima visit our school this morning and spend a few hours in our Chapel.

FIRST EUCHARIST

This weekend we celebrate a special event in our community. Our Year 4 students will receive the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in the form of bread and wine at the table of God’s family for the first time.

The word Eucharist comes from the Greek ‘eucharistia’, meaning thanksgiving. The Lord gave us the Eucharist at the Last Supper because he wanted us to share in the life of the Trinity (Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit).

When we receive the Eucharist, we are nourished spiritually and brought closer to God.

John’s Gospel reminds us of the words of Jesus when he says: “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I, in them” (Jn 6:56).

We wish all our students and their families God’s blessings for their special day and thank Miss De Marte and Mrs Bignell for preparing our students and planning our Mass.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

Monday of this week, we experienced a fun-filled and entertaining day at our annual School Athletics Carnival. As usual the students were tremendous throughout the day with their efforts. Congratulations to WALSH faction on winning the carnival and well done to Fraser faction for winning the Spirit Award.

Many thanks and congratulations to Mrs Emma Hayward, who organised and prepared the carnival for us. Emma has done an outstanding job since commencing at Mary’s Mount and this Carnival was a credit to her

organisation and planning. I would also like to thank our fantastic staff for all their support and assistance given to Emma. Teamwork and collaboration really does make a big difference! We now look forward to our Interschool Athletics Carnival next Friday, 14th September at Matthew Gibney Primary School in High Wycombe.

CONGRATULATIONS – GRAND FINAL

We would like to congratulate Liam Sarkis, Year 5, for progressing to the Grand Final of the Speak-Up Award for 2019. Liam has progressed through the semi-finals and preliminary finals and on Wednesday night , 13 September, he will represent Mary’s Mount Primary School in the Grand Final. No matter what happens now, Liam can be very proud of himself of being one of 12 students from some 400 + students in the metropolitan area who entered this competition.

Good Luck, Liam…we are all behind you!

FATHER’S DAY MASS

Our Father’s Day Breakfast held last Friday was again a great success. My thanks to all those dads, grandads and male role models who were able to attend on the morning and continue our strong community spirit. I would like to thank our small committee of staff who organized and prepared our breakfast on the morning. Thank you all for your hard work. I hope all our dads enjoyed the morning.

MMADS BONFIRE

On Saturday 25 August, our annual MMADs bonfire was held at school. This was another great evening and event for our school community. I know a lot of fun was had by everyone who came along. Unfortunately there was obviously too much fun as it seems no one had time to take any photos! Once again, a special thank you to Adrian Martin—our Head MMAD—for arranging this event and making it a fun family evening.

God Bless!
