Publisher’s Corner The greatest gift you can offer is a healthy, whole youDo you remember reading your first Healing Springs Journal? It may have beenquite awhile ago, as this issue marks the 13th birthday. In celebration, we are tryinga glossy cover to see how you like it. Perhaps it inspires you to finally call theadvertisers that speak to your heart and soul. I love the sounds of songs whetherfrom a human, bird, or coyote. Yet, extraneous noise insults my senses. Todaynoise is everywhere, from the hum of appliances to the constant barrage of pop-upmessages and offers. We hope not to add to the cacophony, but contribute valuablecontent that empowers you to know yourself as the healer of your life and body.

With another anniversary, I am struck with how things are seemingly always thesame while also constantly changing. Trees teach this as they go through each sea-son—every day different, yet each phase of the cycle exactly like the year before. To give some perspective of time, the first issue of The Healing Springs Journalwas in 2002, Facebook began in 2004, iPhones came out in 2007, and we survivedthe prophecy of 2012. Even with these societal changes, the Journal remains thesame. Or so it seemed, until I pulled out the first issue and saw it was all black andwhite, all newsprint, only 16 pages long and I won’t even go into the design. Overthe years many people have asked how I started the Journal. It makes me smile totell the story, for it reminds me that while I followed an impulse it was somethingbeyond me that created The Healing Springs Journal. I had left my 9-5 job a yearprior in order to work for a photographer. While I enjoyed the photography, theenvironment was not a good fit for me. So, I left there and took on a few other jobslooking for one that felt like more than just work. I was always interested in heal-ing modalities and yet couldn’t tune into the one that felt like my path. One day Iwas in the Reiki Room with my friends Terry and Sue when Mark Tolstrup camein to introduce himself as a Tai Chi practitioner. Somewhere in the conversation hesuggested that our healing community needed a newsletter. Interestingly enough, Ihad the skills to create such a thing. When I left there I remembered a few weeksprior a friend had mentioned he had a computer his company was throwing out. Ihad turned it down at the time, seeing no good reason for another computer. Rightthen, I called him and lo and behold the computer was still in his car waiting to finda home. It was loaded with Quark, Photoshop and Word, giving me the ability tostart the Journal with no financial investment. After putting together some materi-als, I called acupuncturist Michael Wayne to tell him my idea. He invited me to ameeting of local practitioners that just happened to be taking place the next morn-ing. Almost every person in attendance wanted to advertise in the first issue, andThe Healing Springs Journal was born. While I did the work needed to make itsomething you can hold, this story exemplifies the connection the Healing Springshas with the world beyond the physical. I am the caretaker and hope to continuehearing its messages and follow its longings as an entity of its own.

Over the years, I have written 79 Publisher’s Corners. I’ve been slowly compiling theseessays with the idea of putting together a book. While reading, I see themes repeat; twoof the many are connection and wholeness. The essays are written from my personalexperience, yet they represent what The Healing Springs Journal is about as well.

Connection arises in my writing primarily in reference to animals and nature. Itsrole in the journal is the connection of practitioners and ideas with its readers. Here

are a few ways I’ve mentioned connection.... June/July 2004;“Being with nature is my connection to the divine. I could livewithout this connection, but that’s all it would be—living, surviving. When amongst trees, birds, earth, water, my spiritthrives. Every thing is simultaneously sacred and common-place.” In June/July ‘12 “It seems that I came into the worldwith a longing in my soul... There are periods when the acheis at bay, yet it inevitably returns. I now see a consistencybetween the longing’s fulfillment and my being immersed inthe inherent connection of nature—feeling welcomed by atree as I lean my back up against its trunk, engaging with ahawk in flight, going to sleep under the stars or being in silentcommunication with my horse.” Feb/Mar ’14 “Turns out, wearing feathers and deerskin are unnecessary to show a connection to the world. All we need is to play our song.”

Wholeness is mentioned in our mission statement and parallelshealing. It is so important we chose it as the theme for theHealing Springs Symposium on May 9th. References towhole and wholeness.... Aug/Sept ’07 “I cannot be fully integrated, while compartmentalizing myself and believingthat only parts of my whole have any true value.” June/July‘10 “A sense of fullness and wholeness took over and Istopped thinking at all. I simply walked in unity with all thisbeauty—feeling the sun’s warmth, hearing the leaves sing inthe breeze, seeing the animals simply living. This is where Iknow unconditional love.” June/July ‘12 “For years I havebeen seeking wholeness. It is now apparent that I had mistakenly believed being whole would mean perfection byhuman standards. Yet with time behind me, what sages havebeen saying for eternity rings true in my bones. Totality comprises everything, including that which could be thoughtof as opposites; soul and ego, spirit and matter, light anddark, greatness and mediocrity, joy and anger, motivated andlazy.” Oct/Nov ‘14 “Human life is full of paradox, as exemplified in breathing, the very thing that keeps us alive. For we can not breathe in without breathing out and viceversa. There is nothing better about in or out, they are equalin their opposites. Embracing this, and its implications, maybe a giant step to wholeness.” Dec ‘14/Jan ’15 “There is a cultural ideal of seeing only the positive or looking at thingsfrom a spiritual paradigm... In a world of pain, this positiveor spiritual bypass is a constant temptation. Yet, it can be adetour on the path to genuine happiness and wholeness.”

Another repetitive theme isauthenticity. I’ve run out of room, however, so we’ll leave it for usall to live genuinely rather thanreading my musings about it.Please remember that TheHealing Springs Journal isbrought to you exclusively by thesupport of its advertisers. Let’skeep things connected and wholeby showing them our love.

Saratoga Integrative Medicine EducationNetwork Upcoming Programs The Saratoga Integrative Medicine Education Network, orSIMEN, has two upcoming programs scheduled. Both will occurat the Saratoga Springs Public Library, 49 Henry St., in theCommunity Room, and are free and open to the public.

The first program occurs on Tuesday, April 14 at 6:30 pm and isentitled, “ADHD: Overcoming It Without Drugs.” If you ask vet-eran teachers if children’s behavior and attention has deterioratedover the past 30 years, they will wholeheartedly say yes. It is notthat we are better at diagnosing, instead something has changed inour children over the past two generations. What is it? ADHD didnot suddenly appear in an adult or child’s life. Parents will tell youthat their child has always acted this way. This means that theADHD condition is developmental – the adult or child neverdeveloped the ability to pay attention. And there are many waysthat ADHD rears its ugly head – hypersensitivity to sound, havingracing thoughts, a wandering mind, and more.

The presenter, Kathy Johnson, MS Ed, of Pyramid of Potential, hashelped people for over a decade improve brain functioning, includ-ing ADHD. She will walk you through the development of the brainand what could keep someone from being able to focus. She address-es many types of ADHD, and will give you some therapeutic activ-ities to do at the presentation to change the brain, no matter what age.

The second program, which occurs on Wednesday, May 13 at6:30pm, is entitled “Sex is Energy: Intimacy and Eroticism Fromthe Orient.” There can be an attraction between two people sopowerful it might completely change the direction of one’s life.We can’t force it to happen and we often don’t see it coming, butonce established it can make moving to Alaska to be with what is

essentially a stranger, even though we hate the cold and dark win-ters, all of a sudden sound like a really great idea.

Many people are hoping for that singular life event: a Big Bang thatwill create a new cosmos in which to delight and play. In our con-temporary culture, the idea of finding the “One” is often believed tobe necessary for personal happiness and there is a plethora of datingsites available to help achieve this goal. If sex and attraction are sopowerful in the beginning, and we desire so strongly for the rela-tionship to work out, why does it often become so difficult?

The presenter, Gregg St. Clair, M.S., L.Ac., has been studyingOriental Philosophy since 1983; practicing Tai Chi, Qi Gong andtraditional Taoist sexual techniques since 1991; and is a licensedAcupuncturist with his Master’s in Traditional Oriental Medicine. For more information on either program, call 210-1557.

Locally-Made Soaps For Dogs & PeopleJust months after launching an online store, Cohoes-based Junie BLove is breaking into the brick and mortar retail space with its“Dirty Dog Soap” and “Mountain Dog Soap.” The line of all-nat-ural goat milk soaps, for both dogs and people, is custom made inthe Rensselaer County Taconic mountains. The soap startedappearing on the shelves at the flagship Orvis store in Manchester,Vt. “This is exciting, to be expanding into physical brick and mor-tar retail,” said Alana Sparrow, owner of Junie B Love. “We arestarting with the Manchester store. Then, as our company grows,we plan to expand into other Orvis stores that carry dog products.”

The soaps contain 100 percent raw liquid goat milk and use onlyessential oils and natural ingredients. There are no added colors, perfumes or fragrances. As the owner of a Welsh Terrier, namedJunebug, Sparrow wanted to create a soap that would be gentle onher dog’s sensitive skin as well as her own. But the special formu-la has other benefits for both dog and human as well. "Natural soaplathers very well, but it also rinses in about half the time as regulardog shampoo,” Sparrow said. “Dogs love water and swimming, butI don't think they particularly like the shower spray because they’renot in control. A quicker shower time creates a more pleasantbathing experience for dogs and those who wash them.”

In addition to the Manchester Orvis store, the soap is available for purchase online now at:

Pain is born in the brain. Sensory neurons send informationto the brain about the state of the body, and the brain inter-prets those signals as best it can. Usually it is on target; but

sometimes it isn’t. And how we interpret the brain’s interpretationadds one more opportunity for error.

Take, for example, muscle pain. Because pain and strength use thesame neural pathways, pain pre-empts strength. But strength alsopre-empts pain. In my Ki-Hara Resistance Stretching classes, par-ticipants learn how to diagnose whether the pain is really weak-ness, and what to do about it. In this case, the brain is giving usimportant information about the problem. It’s up to us to choosethe appropriate solution. But most of us don’t care enough to fixthe problem, so we cover it up with drugs or just stop doing thethings we used to do. And now we’re old.

Sometimes pain is a function of the brainimproperly processingthe information; phantom limb pain is one example. Here a prob-lematic limb has been amputated, but the brain continues to sensepain in the limb that is no longer there. Fibromyalgia is anothercase where the pain is a result of inaccurate processing. Triggerpoints, a very common cause of pain, are the result of the braintelling muscle fibers to continue to contract, rather than relaxinguntil they need to work again. That area of the muscle becomestoo dense to eliminate waste products and absorb blood, and areferred pain pattern is generated, sometimes far away from thetrigger point.

Reprogramming brain responses can be done in several ways. Inthe March 2015 issue of Scientific American, neurosurgeon KevinTracey discusses the use of vagus nerve stimulation to treat a mancrippled with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Within weeks, he was suffi-ciently pain free that his doctors cautioned him not to resume themore strenuous activities he had given up until his body hadstrengthened sufficiently.

But there are other ways to change brain responses. One of themost exciting uses dual attention stimuli to simulate the process-ing that happens during REM sleep, when the eyes dart back andforth as the sleeper dreams. These eye movements, called sac-cades, are what give rise to the name Rapid Eye Movement.EMDR, eye movement desensitization and retraining, utilizes thistechnique. And an even more effective technique consists of tap-

ping on specific acupuncture areas in patterns that stimulate pre-cise areas of the brain and help it finish processing pain infor-mation. This is different from Emotional Freedom Technique, which I also do, but doesn’t use dual attention. I suspect that theyare related, as in the end it’s all energy, but I’ve found thisprocess to be more effective for functional pain relief.

And it appears to have other benefits, which I suspect are all relat-ed to the release of inappropriate muscle tension; muscle tensionthat restricts the flow of energy and is itself a stressor when chron-ic. Here’s an example of how I use this powerful technique in myclasses. You can try it and see how you like it:

Lie on your back, and raise your legs up as close to vertical as you can. Squeezeyour feet together, activating your inner thigh muscles or adductors. Placeyour hands on the insides of your thighs and use them to pull your legs apart, while resisting. Note what your range of motion is. Now tapabout 5 times usingyour right fingers on your right foot in the general area of Liver 3, about aninch above where your big and second toe meet. Then tap in the same way(either hand) in the same place on your left foot. Repeat this sequence sever-al times. Now do the stretch again. Notice any difference? My stretchers –andmyself – all notice an increased range. That should correlate to better liverfunction, as we’ve released chronic muscle tension blocking energy flow. Andyou’ve strengthened and stretched your adductor muscles.

There is a similar technique that generates a powerful relaxationresponse by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system. I useit in my classes to reset breathing patterns for optimal recovery andstress reduction. Several practitioners have reported success withcalming autistic children. And one of the parents who comes to myAlpha Athlete training with her daughter reported major relief ofher crippling chronic low back pain after a brief Far Infrared Saunasession and thirty seconds of tapping on precise areas of her upperback. These techniques are usually not one-shot cures, a big rea-son why I integrate them with my Ki-Hara classes. Several appli-cations, however, often bring lasting relief; and when they don’t,the techniques can often be self-administered.

After having struggled with crippling chronic pain myself, I’mecstatic to find advanced techniques to address the causes of thepain. And the only side effects have been improved function andstress reduction. This is the forefront of mind/body solutions tomind/body problems. To fix the system, address the system.

Is the title of the event, “March Against Monsanto” a turn-offto the Albany food activists?

If you don’t know who Monsanto is… Monsanto was the manu-facturer of “Agent Orange” used in the Vietnam War, which dev-astated the environment and the health of many. This giant busi-ness currently controls the seed supply for the US and manyother countries, legally forcing farmers to plant GeneticallyModified Organism (GMO) crops, and lacing our food supply with beeand butterfly killing pesticide for-mula known as, Round Up.

There are potential health risks asso-ciated with eating engineered foodsdesigned to withstand high levels oftoxic pesticides. Current studiespoint to Monsanto’s GMOs and pes-ticides (that are the mainstay inAmerica’s diet) as the cause of mul-tiple autoimmune diseases. Our pol-linating insect friends are vanishing

due to the poison so liberally spread on lawns, gardens, crops andplants one can buy at the big box stores. Monsanto’s deep pock-ets and political alliances make it difficult for farmers to raiseand sell affordable, organic, non-GMO food.

It’s reported that 93% of Americans want GMO foods labeled.50 countries worldwide have already banned or require labelingof GMO foods, including China. Our state neighbor, Vermont isthe first state in the union to pass a bill requiring GMO labeling.

Perhaps, you’re like me and findthe title of the upcoming, “MarchAgainst Monsanto” on May 23rd tobe distasteful. I’m a holistic practi-tioner, environmentally friendlyand a spiritually conscious individ-ual who strives to live a life of lov-ing-kindness and compassion. Iunderstand the power of words inmanifesting a desired intention(aka, the law of attraction). To be“against” something can create thepotential for more of it.

I’d rather be for the desired result. I am for… the right to knowwhat’s in my food. I am for… taking action steps to make my foodsafe. I’m for… the beautiful pollinating work of butterflies andbees. I am for… affordable, safe, organic food for everyone.

I felt discouraged by the lack of turnout at last year’s (2014) rally.Only 150-200 people gathered to get the attention of the NewYork governmental leaders.

As co-director of Saratoga Integrative Practitioners Network(SIPN), I know hundreds of local holistic practitioners. Yet, I did-n’t see a single familiar face showing their support. Perhaps thevibe of the name lacks the positive results desired and repels thehealth foodies from gathering?

Despite the unfortunate name, are YOU willing to re-label the“March Against Monsanto” in your mind and attend the “Futureof Your Food Safety”? The annual “March Against Monsanto”takes place in Albany on May 23rd at the Albany State Capital..Check Facebook for details.

Make This Event Positive & Fun! • Wear a creative costume!Bumble bee… Butterfly… Cornucopia of Fruit… • Invite friendsfor support • Bring an instrument or sing a song • Chant a prayerwith your beads • Teach a yoga/dance/movement class on the lawn• Coordinate a flash mob • Bring your sage, drum or tuning forksto realign the energy • Make a sign/t-shirt about WHAT YOU’REFOR • Create a taste test challenge of GMO vs. Non-GMO food.

Additional ways to support GMO labeling in New York; 1. Pleasewrite your NY assembly-person and senator to let them know, youdeserve to know what’s in your food. (add the names of Senatorsand assembly people with phone #s) 2. Vote with your dollars bybuying foods that are committed to GMO safety for you.

The health of your digestion is a key factor in the health ofyour body. 70-80% of our body’s immune system lieswithin the gut.The term “leaky gut” or “permeable gut” is

very common now in the alternative healthcare community. However, what exactly is a leaky gut? What causes leaky gut?How can we heal the gut? In this piece I will shed some light foryou, and give you some recommendations that I make to myclients when working with them to heal and seal their leaky gut.

If the mucosal lining of the intestinal wall becomes weak or hasnever fully developed, foreign invaders can easily pass throughthe intestinal wall and into the bloodstream.

The small intestines are naturally permeable to very small mole-cules in order to absorb nutrients. Regulation ofintestinal perme-ability is one of the functions of the cells that line the intestinalwall. However, larger proteins that are difficult to digest or foreign, can break apart these tight junctions in the intestinal wall.Typically individuals with a leaky gut are sensitive to gluten, andpossibly other proteins found in certain grains. However, there aremany factors that can contribute to this mechanism, such as: poordiet (heavy consumption of modern grains that are not soaked orsprouted to remove anti-nutrients, processed foods, and bad oils),infections, toxins, too little stomach acid, deficiency of good bac-teria (gut flora), not beingbreastfed (breastfeeding promotes theclosure of the inner luminal layer of the intestinal lining), con-sumption of medications and anti-inflammatory drugs, alcohol use, stress and age can also cause these tight junctions to break apart.

Once these tight junctions become broken apart and larger pro-teins can pass through the walls of your gut, you haveleaky gut. When your gut is leaky, toxinsfrom medications, bacteria, andundigested food particles, pass through the gut junctions, andinto your bloodstream. Your immune system seesthese "foreigninvaders" as pathogens andbegins an immune response or attackon them. This immune response is like a bunch of soldiers tryingto protect your body. However, these “soldiers” cannot alwaysdecipher between healthy organs and pathogens. This increasesinflammation in the body, and inflammatory responses such asasthma, food allergies, food sensitivities or intolerances, environ-mental allergies, and autoimmune conditions.

Signs that you have a leaky gut• Any issues with digestion (bloating, indigestion, gas, diarrhea),

and IBS• Food intolerances and food allergies• Seasonal and pet allergies• Diagnosis of an autoimmune disease, for example: hashimotos

thyroid, lupus, sjrogren’s syndrome, celiacdisease, psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis

• Skin conditions like eczema, redness, and acne• Mood and behavioral issues or changes

Steps to healing the gutI work with my clients on an elimination diet, removing the mostdifficult to digest foods, such as gluten, dairy, and soy, replacingthem with nutrient dense, easy to digest foods. I recommend recol-onizing the gut with good bacteria through fermented foods andquality probiotic supplementation. I also recommend takingdiges-tive enzymes with meals to help breakdown any difficult to digestfoods. There are some foods and supplements that help to heal andseal the junctions in the gut, such as bone broth, increasing healthyfats, l-glutamine powder anddeglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL).

If a client is experiencing symptoms of lowstomach acid (heart-burn, indigestion, and bloating after meals), I recommend gentlemethods of stimulating their stomach acid production, such asapple cider vinegar in a little water before meals, or a drop of bit-ters on the tongue before meals. If an individual has been

diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, I follow a specificautoimmune protocol with them that involves eliminating morefoods for a period of time.

Now that spring is here, you mayencounter many coaches and prac-titioners trying to sell the latest shakes, detoxes, diets, cleanses etc. However, many of these protocols do not focus on food quality ornutrient density. Therefore, many cause more harm than good. Ifyour great-grandmother wouldn’t recognize it as food, it probablyisn’t. Stick to eating real food, and preserve the health of your gut!

Chronic stress also contributes to a leaky gut, so be sure to take timeout each day to nurture your inner child! Now that spring is finallyarriving, getting outside to play isa great way to nurture your mind, body, and soul! Walking, hiking, biking, or playing with childrenoutside each day can help tremendously with chronic stress.

Wish you all things happy and healthy,

Those of us who live in the East are coming out of a long andvery cold winter. Each sign of new life in the bushes andsprouting from the ground seems nothing short of miracu-

lous after a winter that some of us thought would never end. Andyet winter inevitably gives way to spring and new life. The warmthand color and fragrance of this time of year intoxicate us andrenew faith in our ability to endure difficult and barren times.

Part of the shamanic worldview is a deep and abidingconnection with cycles. Onethat each of us is intimatelyconnected with is ourbreath: breath in, breath out;breath in, breath out. Thereis magic in pausing to noticethe moment of stillness thatresides in the space betweenthe in breath and the outbreath, the out breath andthe in breath. To experienceany type of cycle is to expe-rience bringing in andrelease or letting go. The

new moon brings new energy that grows to fulfillment at the timeof the full moon, which then is integrated and releases to new pos-sibilities at the time of the next new moon. Growth begins in thespring, burgeons and flourishes and comes to a peak in the sum-mer, and begins to gather into itself, releasing it's outward mani-festation in the fall, to become dormant and rest in the winter, gathering potential for new growth the following spring.

Life cycles, cycles of fertility, circadian cycles - we humans arecyclic creatures. Embracing and developing awareness of howcycles impact, even structure our lives, can be comforting orreassuring, helping us orient. There is a time to build and grow alife, a family, a career; and there is a time to take life at a slow-er pace, to let ones children go, to let go of a career or begin toharvest it and share the gifts with others.

Embracing the dynamic of releasing and bringing in, can be avaluable healing and spiritual practice. It can be done at Solsticeand Equinox times of year, or at the time of full and/or newmoons. It can be done any time one feels stuck, burdened, oraware of a lack or something missing. I invite you to take amoment, right now, to reflect on whatever feels heavy in yourcurrent experience. Is there inertia, or guilt, or judgment? Useyour breath to release whatever it is into a stone, or a toothpick.Put the stone on the earth and ask her to take your heavy energy

and mulch it, digest it, transform it. Or light your toothpick in acandle flame and let the energy of fire release your heavy energy. Now take a moment to think about what you want to bring in toyour life. Is it energy, or self-acceptance, or a feeling of being ableto move freely toward what you want? Use your breath to blowthis into a stone. Place it on the earth and ask her to help this wishgerminate, take root, and grow. Or use your breath to blow yourwish into a toothpick and allow the transformative power of fireas you light it in a candle flame give your wish wings. Don'tunderestimate the power of consciously and prayerfully identify-ing what wants to be released, what wants to be brought in, andfinding a way to symbolically do that.

Where there has been trauma or chronic stress it can be difficultto relax into and trust a cyclic perspective. One can experiencefear that lows will last forever. Highs are sought in ways that sendour mind/bodies further out of whack. Almost all of us these dayssuffer from some degree of chronic stress. Before we can becomeavailable to a more natural relationship with life we may need toadopt practices that allow our nervous systems to re-set, that allowus to relax and feel safe in the moment. This is why meditation isso valuable for those who can do it. Those of us who can't are likea cat up a tree that is spooked and glued to the branch it is cling-ing to. It takes a lot of patient soothing talk to get a cat out of atree. Likewise with ourselves, it takes deliberate self-soothing tobring ourselves back into balance. Cultivating healthy self-sooth-ing practices can be a life-saver. Belly breathing, hands on con-nection with heart and belly, forms of conscious connection withthe earth, conscious focus on a soothing activity, soothing self-talk. There are so many ways to re-set, but one has to be willingto tear oneself out of the magnetic grasp of fear-based reactionand re-focus on action and thought that supports one to comedown out of the tree. Finally, acknowledging self for any and eachinstance of attitude and behavior that supports healthy re-balanc-ing is as good as 1/2 price off the second effort.

May you breathe in the warmth ofspring with a welcoming heart andrelease the tension of holding yourselfagainst the cold.

Most people are aware these days that emotional stresscan cause or contribute to physical illness. For decadespeople have gone through psychotherapy and counsel-

ing to heal from symptoms of depression, anxiety and generalunhappiness by talking about their problems. Having an empa-thetic counselor helps validate their emotions and helps them feelunderstood and supported. More recently, Emotional FreedomTechnique (EFT), also known as Tapping, has been popularizedby wellness and spiritual teachers worldwide as a way to releasetrapped energy behind uncomfortable emotions. By tapping onacupuncture points while a person expresses the emotion, he canrelease the intensity of the emotion. For many people, the resultsare instantaneous.

So what happens when you don’t know you have emotional bag-gage that is contributing to a specific symptom or illness? Sayyou have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a complex disorderI used to have myself, that involves symptoms of chronic pain, insomnia and fatigue. Is it possible to release the fear, anger andsadness that contributed to it or developed from having it? Well, the answer is yes of course, but it helps to first become aware ofthe so-called negative emotion(s). Many emotions may beburied so deep in your energy field that you don’t feel them orknow they even exist. What if you absorbed them from someoneelse during your childhood or inherited them from your motheror father? In my experience this kind of emotional baggage can’tbe as easily healed through talk therapy or tapping.

In my holistic medical practice, I use a technique called theEmotion Code, pioneered by Dr. Bradley Nelson, which lets meeasily discover and release trapped emotions even if my patient isunaware of them. These include emotions that have been inherit-ed. The Emotion Code utilizes muscle testing, also called appliedkinesiology, as a way in which the practitioner can tap into thepatient/client’s subconscious mind to determine the trapped emo-tion and any details surrounding the emotion before releasing it.Of course muscle testing, like most every technique, is not 100%accurate which is one of the reasons practitioners say a prayer orask for guidance from Source before starting each session.

For example, I see a lot of people with autoimmune diseasessuch as Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis resulting in low functioningthyroid and adrenal glands. Using the Emotion Code, I can askthe patient’s subconscious mind if there are any trapped

emotions causing this problem. Eighty percent of the time, theanswer is “yes”. Before we even discover which trapped emotionit is, I can ask the subconscious mind to tell me how severe theautoimmunity is in my patient. “On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10being the most severe, how severe is your autoimmunity?”Amazingly, the subconscious mind will answer with a specificnumber. Once we’ve determined there is a trapped emotion wecan release, we use the Emotion Code chart and muscle testingto determine the exact emotion, who it originally belonged to,and where it is lodged in the body. Within a few seconds, eveninherited trapped emotions can easily and permanently bereleased.

I have witnessed profound healing using the Emotion Code. Inone case, a female patient was having years marital discord withher husband and upon releasing thirty three generations of theemotion “unsupported” she suddenly noticed how wonderfulthey were getting along. What used to take years of therapy toheal can now be accomplished in an instant. The Emotion Codecan be done remotely as well with the practitioner in a com-pletely different country from the patient/client, which makes itvery practical and convenient.

"There is a time to adventure heartily into new possibilities, but there is also a need for quiet integration time on the self-creation journey. Profound experiences can accelerate the journey, but much of the real change happens at slower paces andthe places in between. We can have all the peak experiences we want but the real work happens between the peaks, whilelaying down and integrating on the forest floor. Growers are inch worms. This may frustrate us, but it’s the only way to craftan awareness that is authentic and sustainable. May we give ourselves the time we need to truly embody our learnings."

by David Helvarg, author of Saved by the Sea

It’s hard to believe that in the blink of an eyein which I’ve led my life half the world’stropical corals have died along with 90 per-

cent of the big pelagic (open ocean) fish.Humans have spent the last half-century takingfrom our living seas while giving back mostlyplastic, oil, chemical and nutrient waste. Wewon’t kill the ocean because the ocean endureswith or without us, but if we don’t turn the tide

of our behaviors we’ll surely impoverish our own lives and thelives of those who follow.

A few billion years ago, when the Moon was closer to Earth, itstides ripped minerals from the land, turning the primordial seasinto a chemical cooking pot that led to the emergence of life onearth. When the tides and continents met they also created frictionthat slowed the spin of the planet and lengthened the days of ourlives. Now that the Moon has retreated and the waters haveslowed, it’s hard to imagine what those early seas must have beenlike except in a few special places.

One night a group of us landed at the dock in St. Andrews, Canada,at 10 P.M., having sailed across the Bay of Fundy from Maine. Thenext morning at 8 A.M. we had to climb twenty feet down the nowsteeply angled dock ladder where the tide had dropped out fromunder our small ferryboat. Sailing back to Maine, we saw harborporpoises feeding near big whirlpools in the bay’s tidal bore, wherebillions of tons of water rush in and out every twenty-four hours.Talk about sea power (and potential clean energy)!

In the Southern Ocean, below the Roaring Forties and FuriousFifties but north of the Antarctic convergence, I spent several daysthe same gray-green color as the thirty-foot seas that broke overthe bow and rolled across the deck of our research vessel likeNeptune’s angry fists. Forty- to fifty-foot seas, with the occasion-al seventy-foot rogue wave, are not considered that unusual at thebottom of the world ocean.

I remember flying from California to Washington to ride on one ofthe Coast Guard’s big icebreakers heading north. As I looked downat the snowcapped northern California mountain ranges, I wasreminded of great white-capped ocean waves. Actually, they’re notunlike waves in geological terms, bridging up across the landscape, surfing the magma where the Pacific and North American tectonicplates collide and subside beneath them. Mountains are the ripplingbreakers of the planet, though functioning in a time frame thatmakes our species as transitory as mayflies or molecules. Only

evolutionarily hardened species of marine life such as horseshoecrabs and nautiluses have been around long enough to see moun-tain ranges rise up and erode away again.

While there’s a sense of solidity in the mountains, the ocean is in aconstant flux from winds, tides, and currents, upwellings and mix-ings both chemical and biological, both sensuous and predatory. It’s the oxygen pump that never quits, the maker of atmosphere, rain, and fog and the buffer of chemical balances, the paddle wheelof circulating vapors that is the bouillabaisse and the crucible oflife, both the soup and the pot it comes in. Some people love themountains and some people love the sea. Some like the steadycompanionship of dogs and some the mercurial nature of cats.

Because these are domesticated animal species (except for the catsthat choose us), they will likely survive this way-too-crowdednanosecond of planetary evolution we’ve created, along with ourmeat animals and camp followers (roaches, rats, and raccoons). But can the world’s last wild creatures and places—can the reefs, sea dragons, ringed seals, and mangroves—also survive us?

I was not born for peaceful times or calm waters, nor have I seenmany. We’re living in the age of global markets and mass extinc-tions; the birth of celebrity Web sites, YouTube, and Twitter; andthe death of sharks, sea turtles, and others of our planetarybrethren who were already ancient when the first small mammalsleft their dirt-filled burrows.

While I’ve gone from radical activist to war reporter, privateinvestigator, TV producer, author, and activist again, I do so witha more sober assessment than when I was young, running wild inthe streets chanting “Power to the People!”—a slogan recentlyappropriated for a battery-powered Oral-B toothbrush ad.

Today I don’t really expect a revolution in either politics or con-sciousness to radically alter the cascading ecological collapse ofour ocean planet. I do, however, note a rising line of ecologicalmindfulness approaching the declining plane of biological diversi-ty on our water world. Where that X crosses will tell us how muchis left to save and restore if we can.

I’m not sure it will be enough to turn the tide. All I know for cer-tain is that if we don’t try, we lose. And this salty blue world ofours is too heart-achingly beautiful, scary, and sacred to lose. Ifyou don’t believe me, join the space program, travel out into thecosmos, and look back from the heavens. It’s not God’s greenearth—it’s God’s blue marble.

Acupuncture; Gregg St Clair

In the last issue of Ask the Practitioner someone requested fivehealth techniques to implement in the New Year. We’vedecided to continue the column answering that question based

on my book called the Natural Health Companion. In order tohelp educate my patients I write about almost 100 different prac-tices that one can work on to improve their psychical and mentalwell being. The feedback was very encouraging but the question Iheard most was: How do I sort through all of this and begin rightaway? So I came up with what I call the 12 practices to help peo-ple get started quickly. These 12 Practices are:

1 Drinking Clean Water (keep a water bottle with you)2 Exercising (find one you love)3 Making Better Food Choices (cleaner healthier foods)4 Reducing Stress (lots of options)5 Managing Time (budget time for yourself and doing nothing)6 Slowly Changing Habits (don’t do too much too fast)7 Changing Personal Products (natural; stay away from dyes and

fragrances)8 Continued Learning (keep challenging yourself with new things)9 Getting Out in Nature (at least outside every day, even in winter)1 0 Meditating (seated, standing, walking, Tai Chi)1 1 Cultivating Spiritual Support (develop meaningful community)1 2 Receiving Touch and Energy Work (massage, acupuncture,

reiki, etc.)

The first four practices—water, food choices, exercise and stressreduction—are the foundations of health. They are the bare mini-mum necessary for everyone as basic practices. The next fourpractices—learning, making slow changes, changing the productswe use and time management—are the foundations of yourlifestyle. They are necessary to keep you on the path and growing. The last four practices—spiritual support, meditation, touch/ener-gy work and Nature—are the foundations of the spiritual life andhelp to give life meaning and purpose.

One of the amazing things about this list is it costs you virtuallyno money. You can begin reducing stress, walking, changinghabits, utilizing the library, meditating, being part of a spiritualcommunity, volunteering, getting out in Nature and managingyour time for free. As you begin to see the rewards you might startspending money on healthier food, better products and perhapsbody work therapies such as massage, but by then you will seethem as wise investments.

So many people waste so much money now at their favorite cof-fee shop every morning, or on alcohol, lottery tickets, going out toeat or bad habits such as smoking. As you change your lifestyleyou will find there will be money cleared up to use for your health

and things you’ll come to value. I love to work with peoplegoing through personal transformation, but remember, readingthe suggestions in my book won’t prevent disease and get youhealthy; practicing them will.

You might argue that there’s just nothing better than a mas-sage session with your favorite LMT. If you’re hus-band/wife also loves massage, then you may say that actu-

ally, the real treat is sharing that special experience in a couplesmassage. Well in my professional opinion, there is somethingeven better than both!

I had been a practicing massage therapist myself for a few yearsbefore I understood exactly what that was. I had been relievingaches, pains and stress for my clients and was so rewarded whenthey left my office happily transformed. But inevitably, theyreturned for their next session looking just as worn down as ever.Something had to change!

In order to make solid progress we needed to work with thebody’s time-scale and administer massage to target areas at leastonce or twice each week. If stress-relief was the goal then mas-sage needed to be available, even if for just a few minutes, when-ever it was needed.

So, I enlisted my clients’ loved-ones. I brought them in for a smallgroup session where I taught the most basic of Swedish massagetechniques in a manner that would easily translate for home-use.Here was how to massage the back of the neck when you noticedyou partner working late at her desk. Here was something for theforearms to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome.

And Voila! In 2006 Couples Massage Workshop was born! Theinformation was so intuitive that with just a little guidance I had

clients reporting that they were finally making progress with long-standing issues.

And then I had a sweet surprise when I came to understand thattruly, the greatest benefit of this experience was even beyondphysical relief. It was the connection made between loved-ones.Clients were reporting feeling more supported and cared-for.They were communicating more clearly with their partners duringmassage trades than they had in years.

In receiving massage there is a special opportunity to enjoy thephysicality of the body. In our modern world with its limitless dis-tractions, this moment of self-revelation is priceless. Now, imag-ine adding to that the ability to reconnect with your loved-one.The simple truth is that basic, kind, and non-sexual touch bringsus back to reality. And if that reality includes loving feelings foryour partner, trading a massage can reveal all.

Couples Massage Workshop quickly became my favorite work. It’s now taught in small group sessions and as private tutorials allover New York State. This year I even debuted an instructionalDVD!

I had been teaching my Couples Massage Workshop for manyyears before I had my own loved-one to trade massages with. Asmuch as I believed in my mission to spread the word about the ben-efits of massage, it wasn’t until I gave and received massage withhim that I really understood the affects. There’s no need to take myword for it because the proof is waiting at home for you, today!

To expand Gwendolyn Guarino’s visionand bring this knowledge to even morepeople, Guarino deputed her CouplesMassage Workshop video. The DVD is45 minutes of instruction, is scored bylocal musicians, and is for sale for $20through Amazon.com andCouplesMassageWorkshop.com.

What is osteopathy? It is away of evaluating andtreating disease in

humans and animals that has been inuse for over fifty years. Humanosteopathy began with AndrewTaylor Stills in Missouri in 1874.From there, Dominique Ginauxbegan to develop osteopathy forhorses. According to Ginaux“...osteopathy is an approach to theequilibrium of a living organism andits pathology...and uses variousmanual manipulations to do so...” Itis Janek Vluggen of the VluggenInstitute of Equine Osteopathy andEducation who has carried on withthis vital work today.

What does the osteopathicapproach to health entail? Ourmain goal as osteopaths is torestore balance to the animal sothat he/she can self-heal.Osteopathy is an alternative to tra-ditional medicine that allows thebody to find its own healingresources.Equine osteopathy is anemerging field in the area ofequine well-being where the wholehorse is taken into consideration. We observe and feel the wholeanimal. We observe how the ani-mal moves and take special inter-est in what is not moving. Overallour hands are our tools. We feelthe animal in ways that tells uswhat is happening physically and

mentally. The osteopathic premise is structure determines func-tion; function determines structure. Basically, if the structure isaltered in any way, the function or how that structure functionsis also altered and vise versa.

There are five systems that concerns an osteopath: the vascularsystem, the nervous system, the autonomic nervous system, thevisceral system, and the musculoskeletal system. Since everysystem of the body is dependent on each other to work efficient-ly, malfunction of one system can lead to the immobility anddecreased function of another.

We call this an area of congestion or a "terrain". Let's take a lookat how this might happen—starting with an alteration to anorgans position and or possibly a bone that has changed its nor-mal position; a decrease in blood supply to that area occurs (con-gestion) due to muscle contraction directed by the gammanerves from that spinal segment); this decrease in blood supplyalters the function of the nerves to that altered area relaying painto the autonomic nervous system; that pain leads to change ofinternal organ mobility and motility; this change in organ func-tion can lead to a change in musculoskeletal function or how theanimal moves. This process can also lead to compensatorychanges in other areas of the body including behavioral andemotional issues. As this illustrates, it is a vicious circle of com-pensation that not only keeps the initial problem in place, butmay also magnify it. If the osteopath can interrupt this circle byaffecting anyone of the five systems that keep it in place, thehorse may be able to progress in healing itself. A horse that

bucks maybe trying to tell you more than you think!

What is our goal in osteopathy? To clear the "terrain" and torestore balance in all systems thereby restoring the animal's vitalforce or Chi. Our treatment toolbox includes cranial sacral work, myofascial release, visceral manipulation, joint mobilizationsand various manipulation techniques. We also emphasize goodtemporomandibular joint (TMJ) function, good teeth occlusionas well as good hoof maintenance. The whole body and all itsvital systems should be moving and operating in harmony. withno restrictions, creating balance in the animal. Osteopaths alsoevaluate the animal's social environment, living quarters, nutri-tion and occupation since these factors can also affect the well-being and health of the animal.

Osteopathy can and does compliment other alternative approach-es (i.e. acupuncture, homeopathy, Traditional Chinese Medicine)as well as traditional veterinary practices. Osteopathy preparesthe body so that the effect of other approaches can be enhanced.

In summary, equine osteopathy can enhance your horses healthand well-being and shoulddefinitely be considered intheir overall care.

We are grateful for this opportunity to communicate withyou, where We join in a state of Higher Consciousness.Any time that you are opening yourself up to a new, high-

er perspective, you are raising your vibration. Any time you dropyour own mental constructs around an experience, you are openingyourself up to release old beliefs and step into a new perspective.

This is happening all of your time; in every circumstance you arechoosing whether to open up to a new understanding of yourselfor to continue to believe in and function in the programming youhave lived under in a less conscious state. As a child you are pro-grammed by the beliefs that your immediate surroundings teachyou. As an adult, you are capable of reprogramming your brainwith beliefs and patterns that are of your choosing. You do nothave to be a passive to your reactions- you can choose how youare going to show up to your life, in every moment.

Many of you may have already begun to feel the discomfort of con-tinuing to stay in patterns that are no longer serving you. And that isnot to make them bad, for they did serve you at one point. However, with the momentum of energy pouring through the planet, clearingthe Earth and Human Consciousness, raising the vibration of both, you may be finding yourself in a state of frequent unease. As if theold no longer fits and the new isn’t quite known. This is because lin-ear thinking, from point A to point B does not exist in the same waythat you have known it to serve you in the past.

As your consciousness evolves, especially in conjunction with therising awaking energies, your awareness becomes multidimen-sional. You are perceiving with more advanced forms of observa-tion. You are feeling your way through situations- someone mayspeak certain words, and you may hear or feel something quitedifferent. You may be challenged by decisions around what to donext in your life, with career or a relationship- you feel one thing, but logically you can rationalize why to do another thing. This iswhere the chaos is beginning for most of you.

In the coming years, it is very important to learn to deeply connectwith that inner voice that will help you feel your way through yourlife. Logic and rational are useful tools. But with an awakening, you are each looking for deeper connection to that Higher Aspectin you, to your Soul, which resides deeply within you. The chaosmost feel right now is due to this shift from logical, masculine,

forceful thinking, to heart-centered, allowing and feeling. This isan opening to the totality of human consciousness. It is a balanc-ing of the Divine Masculine and the Divine Feminine Energies. The planet has lived in a Masculine dominated mind set for a longtime and it feels uncomfortable and chaotic as you forerunnersmake changes that the rest of the world may not quite be willingto allow at this time. You are opening your heart to your Soul andcalling in Divine Feminine.

This is to those forerunners, blazing the trail for the DivineFeminine to enter into the consciousness of all human kind, thuscreating an Age of Enlightenment. This is to men and womenalike; Divine Feminine is being balanced in both sexes. Open your-self up to the chaos that is occurring. At this time, fighting any-thing will only create more of an attachment to what you do notwish to be experiencing. You cannot fight away, will away, orforce away the chaos or discomfort. But you can settle into yourheart, breathe in light, and say, “I see you fear (or anger, or sad-ness, or chaos, or debt, or resentment…) I hear you, I am not goingto fight you. I accept you. I accept every part of myself. And I callin my soul to be here with these feelings.” Activate your soul ineverything you do. And then release what no longer serves you. Ifyou are angry, call in your soul to be angry with you. If you aresad, call in your soul to nurture you while you cry. Your soul doesnot want to destroy who you are, your soul wants to be a consciouspart of you identity so that you no longer associate life with suf-fering. So that you can live in the state of grace that is available.

The reason you suffer is because you have been taught to believethat you are forced to deal with things on your own, and oftentimes the inner environment of thoughts, beliefs, patterns that youare working from are not very supportive and nurturing to themagnificence who you are. Open your heart to your soul.Surrender to the chaos within, and outside of yourself. To surren-der is not to give up or become weak, it is to accept, allow, andsupport yourself regardless of what is occurring. And you don’thave to do it alone anymore- your soul is here, right now, to bewith you. Most people abandon themselves with their own inter-nal judgments. Stand by yourself. Invite your soul in to stand withyou. It is already there, you just need to become conscious of it.Eat the bag of cookies- and love yourself through it. Tell yourselfthat you won’t abandon yourself, your soul is there, loving you, even when you do something “bad”. This is where transformationhappens. This is the Divine Feminine coming into nurture andprovide for you. This is rebuilding your internal foundation inwhich your Soul is the groundwork and the mind is a tool to buildyour dreams with. Many Blessings.

by Bob Sima, The Transformational Troubadour

Anger, disappointment, frustration – most of us spendwrapped up in these emotions. The more we indulge in thesenegative feelings, the worse our lives become. But what if

we can go from pissed to blissed just by taking our cues from music?

As a singer-songwriter who travels the world performing andwhose inspiration comes entirely from spirituality – what I hearfrom ancient and modern masters and what I perceive throughmeditation and spiritual connection – I believe that music cangive us new perspectives for transforming our lives. You’veheard it said that “music is the soundtrack of your life” whichmeans that music can be a teacher in our lives. For example, youmight often think that life is piled up against you, but what if itis “Happening for You?” (http://www.bobsima.com/my-blog/5-lenses-will-shift-mood-pissed-blissed/.) Click on each audioprompt to hear the lyrics referenced in this article. )

Imagine, it’s Monday morning and you are driving to the airport –tunes cranked, windows down, spring air crisp and full of possibil-ity. You are feeling bliss at its depth, knowing that this day – thistrip to interview for your dream job – is the start of a whole newchapter. As you enter the freeway accelerating, you notice that thecar is not quite getting up to speed and you hear the dreaded thumpthump thump. No! This is not happening. Yes, it is. You are stand-ing on the side of the freeway, tire iron in your hand, staring downat the lifeless flat back left tire with the rim kissing the ground.One-by-one the 18-wheelers are thundering by, making you feelpretty small and insignificant. The 8:40 flight? Might as well forgetthat. It’s not going to happen because you didn’t leave time for thislittle disaster. You planned for this trip for years, you built yourskills, you upped your game. For what? They are making their deci-sion today and so this opportunity is going to be gone. The flat tiresays it all. Deflated. You’ve rapidly gone from blissed to pissed.

It’s in these moments that we lose hope. We feel totally defeated. Why is it so easy for us to get rattled, to go from blissed to pissed, from serenity to insanity? We often feel that life is a just a mean-ingless set of arbitrary events which happen to us. Our perspec-tive is simple. We view the events dualistically, as sometimes“good” sometimes “bad.” And it is exactly this attachment-based,dualistic thinking that leads to suffering. When we get what wewant, we are happy; when we don’t get what we want, we are nothappy. Some days you’re the hammer and some days you’re thenail. So we walk through life with a sense of dread, wonderingwhen the next shoe is going to drop. All the while feeling that lifeis pretty meaningless and insignificant, and that there is no senseof what it’s all about. No sense of a bigger picture.

Living this paradigm sets you up for continual disappointment anddefeat. It’s time for a new perspective, a new paradigm, a brandnew set of lenses to view the world. I am not talking about fram-ing things to make them look better, like some sort of philosophi-cal Photoshop. I’m also not talking about the cliché “it all happens

for a reason, suck it up, kiddo.” I am talking about a radically dif-ferent perspective – one that frames the happenings in your lifewith a whole new light. It’s time to go from pissed to blissed.

Feeling bliss can be unconditional--not based on events, but basedon a higher perspective. It’s the perspective that views the events, the relationships, the hirings and firings, the ups and downs, thebirths and deaths – all of it – as your supporting cast that leads toyour ascension and rise to a higher level of consciousness. Ohyes! This is a much grander view, a bigger picture, a more pow-erful story, the soul’s journey. This is the view of the enlightenedones – the path to your soul’s growth – all done within the frame-work of being the beautiful human that arrived on the planet. It’stime for a shift, a shift in perspective, a new pair of eyes.

Here are some New Lenses for you to view your life experience, based on lyrics from my song “Happening For You....” Afterreading these lenses, I invite you to download the song so thatthis teaching is activated and reinforced on each listen.

Lens #1It’s Happening For You: There is no chance, there are no coincidences, and there are no mis-

takes. Try this: take a deep cleansing breath and think back on achallenging event in your life. Discern, for a moment, what valuethis event added to your life. The salient ones are guaranteed topop to the surface in a flash of insight. You can see clearly thatit wasn’t as “bad” as originally thought. It actually fed your soulin some way that it needed for ascension. The interesting thing isthat it is much easier to see it from the aftermath of the event.LYRIC: “…this can’t be happening to me tonight. Well, it isn’tmy friend. It’s happening for you…”

Lens #2Set the Dream, Detach From the Outcome,Everything is a Miracle: As Einstein said,

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though noth-ing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”Choose everything as a miracle. Why? Because you are one. Weare living a great miracle and, with this viewpoint, nothing canbe seen as anything other than it is: a true miracle. Applying thisis miraculously healing. For example, when someone close toyou dies, instead of seeing the loss, think of the miracle thatbrought your two lives together in the first place. Events andhappenings are one great miracle; the fact that you are here ismiraculous, as the chances of being born into a body are 1 in 400trillion. Try this: take a deep conscious breath and ponder theevents that had to take place to create your soul in this body: thechemical reactions, the dividing of cells, the strands of DNA, thetwinkle in your mom’s eye that attracted your dad, the sono-grams, the birth, the growing up, the events all along the way. Allof those events that led you here, right here and now. If that’s nota miracle, then what is? So, yes, YOU are a miracle, as is every-thing you see and experience. LYRIC: “…lifetimes of memories, rushing rushing rushing at you.”

Page 31: Hsj79apma15

3113th Anniversary Issue, #79 April/May ‘15 I Healing Springs

Lens #3Pain is the Great Awakener: In our society wesee pain as a negative. We clearly don’t want

anything to do with it. Painkillers are the number one prescribedmedication on the planet, for both physical and emotional pain. I’mnot advocating against medicine, as it has its benefits and useful-ness. But it is through pain that transformation can fully arise. Painis the great awakener, so have a listen. A pain in your body istelling you, “Hey look at me. I need some care.” Pain in the emo-tional body or soul is talking as well, so have a listen. Try this: nexttime you are triggered, depressed, drained, anxious, angry, or hurt, take a deep cleansing breath when a pain arises and just feel it. Bewith it. Listen to what it is telling you. It is there for your highestgood with a message for you. Breathe, allow, and listen. LYRIC:“…this pain, this thing is gonna have a talking to you…”

Lens #4It’s a Lesson or a Blessing: Here’s a new way tosee, and it’s a win-win because both ways lead

to clarity and purpose. Perhaps the flat tire led you to a differentjob, one that was even better suited to you than you could haveever imagined. So in that case the flat tire was a blessing. However, perhaps that flat tire was a result of a lack of mainte-nance that was suggested to you by a mechanic just two weeksearlier. Consider now that the lesson is to better listen to theadvice of those around you. Try this: go back and look at some ofthe events in your life that may have been perceived as traumaticand discern the lesson and/or blessing in each event. This practicewill lead to gratitude, which is the virtue among all virtues for cre-ating peace and meaning in your life. LYRIC: “…lessons andblessings disguised as disaster...”

Lens #5You Are Here to Grow: What is the meaning oflife? Why are you here? It can’t be all about

making money, travel, and leisure, can it? Many experts leadingthe human potential field firmly believe that our souls are here togrow. In fact they are under contract to grow. So, in truth, it’s allabout transformation – soul transformation through the humanvessel. This is the grander view, the bigger picture, the ultimatelens. When you frame your life events around this lens, you cantruly step back and see a tapestry of your life starting to take form. You can start to see patterns that need to be broken and lessonsthat keep showing up to be learned. It’s quite humbling to stepback and see the construction in progress, the beautiful ways thatyou are continually unfolding. When you see from here, the littlethings become bigger and the bigger things become smaller.LYRIC: “…to wake you and shake you, break and reshape you, into something else entirely brand new… your highest good iswhat it’s after…”
