Members of the HSU enjoy several benefits as Journey Insurance, Bereavement benefits, legal help, educational scholarships and more.

The NSW government had taken away the Journey Insurance that covers health workers for any accidents on the way to or from work. The HSU has

given it back to its members and that too at no extra cost. As part of the Journey Insurance, HSU Members get 85 % of their weekly wages or up to

$1500 every week in case they suffer a loss of income due to injuries on the journey to work or while heading home from work.

What is journey insurance?

The HSU is available to help the family in case of death of a member. The next of the kin gets a $10,000 bereavement payment. In case you are a new

member who has not completed 24 months, you are covered only for accidental death. After the period of 24 months, all causes of death are

covered. The benefits stop once the member is 70 years old.

Enjoy free Will and legal services as part of HSU. Also, in case you have dependent children who are studying or are yourself into higher education, you are eligible to enter a ballot for the Health Services Union’s Education

Incentive scholarship. The scholarship amount can be used to purchase study books or other text tools.
