History of HTMLHTML was created by Berners-Lee in late 1991 but "HTML 2.0" was the first standard HTML specification which was published in 1995. HTML 4.01 was a major version of HTML and it was published in late 1999. Though HTML 4.01 version is widely used but currently we are having HTML-5 version which is an extension to HTML 4.01, and this version was published in 2012.



What is HTML ?• HTML is a language for describing web pages• HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup

Language.• HTML is a markup language.• A markup language is a set of markup tags• The tags describes document content.• HTML documents are also called Web Pages.

Types of Tags



Container Tags Empty TagsContainer tags have a beginning and an end tag, the end tag is similar to the beginning tag but with a “/” sign in front of it.

Empty tags are standalone tag and do not have en end tag.

Example:- <b>and</b> Example:- <br>

<table>and</table>etc.

<hr> etc.

HTML Element• The HTML tag contain three sections: Start

tag, content, and End tag. Here the Start tag and End tag are same but the only difference between them is the End tag contains the “/” before tag name.



Basic Tags in HTML



Web Page• The web page is the

representation of a document that is identified by a unique URL(Uniform Resource Locator).

• It can be accessed through a web browser and displayed on a monitor or mobile device.
