The Babylonian army surrounded the city of Jerusalem and laid siege to it. The

military strateg y of the siege was to surround a walled city, cutting of f means of

escape and disrupting supplies coming into it. When opposition was worn down by

hunger, the attacking army would break through and conquer the city.

The city wall , the temple, and the palace were burned . The wealth of the city

was plundered. A small number of the remaining Jews were taken to Babylon and

lived as captives there.

At that time, the Jews employed water baptism when a Gentile (non-Jew) converted to Judaism. It aptly symbolized the removal of the moral f ilth of paganism. The scandal of John’s baptism was that he required the action of Jews, in ef fect saying that Jews were as morally reprehensible to God as were Gentiles. Predictably, the arrival of a John excited the masses but angered the religious establishment. John’s message of repentance was also aimed at the political establishment, a move that would lead to his imprisonment and execution.

SUMMARY:

Jael. Adonijah. Amos. Deborah. Not the larger-than-life Bible heroes who are so well known. Some of these characters are even . . . obscure.

Yet God preserved their stories for a reason.

In Obscure No More, you’ll discover the significance of ten often-overlooked characters by seeing how they connect to your story today. Take a look at your world through the lens of their lives, and then take the next step to make your life story—obscure or not—meaningful for God!

Each chapter uses an inductive Bible study method for a deep look at Scripture:

• Read eight lesser-known historical accounts

• Relate to the culture and context of God’s Word

• Reflect on these characters’ lives so you can live out God’s principles

• Remember the lessons through simple memorization and compelling narrative

LEANNE BLACKMORE is a cookie-dough eating, tennis playing, Facebook fanatic. Her ultimate desire, though, is to know God by knowing his Word. As a veteran Bible teacher and sought-after women’s retreat and conference speaker, she shares that passion with others. LeAnne and her husband, Ron, live in Johnson City, Tennessee, with their two teenagers, Spencer and Averie.

SUMMARY :

Bring to life the story of Jesus’ birth with this one-of-a-kind Christmas book for children! One Special Night combines a child-friendly retelling

of Jesus’ birth with beautiful artwork and pop-up dioramas to engage young children every time it’s read.

On every spread, a pop-up diorama illustrates the central figures of Mary, Joseph, Jesus, the angels, shepherds, and wise men in a way few other books can. Children can read the stories with parents or grandparents, pull tabs on select pages in the book, and watch the characters in the various scenes move. This unique presentation of the story of Christ’s birth will make reading this book a child’s favorite Christmastime tradition.

SUMMARY :

Children ages 3–6 will delight in 50 beautifully illustrated, carefully retold stories from God’s Word! Show & Tell Bible Stories uses everyday objects to provide young

children with a visual and tangible understanding of each story. Familiar objects, short stories, and fun rhymes provide the tools for children to show and tell Bible stories in their own words! Great for use at home and in the classroom.
