Keeping Pace with Evolving Communication Needs

Today’s communication landscape is changing rapidly. Mobility is transforming the way enterprises and people

interact with each other and share information. Robust data applications, such as video, data, and messaging,

are now deemed key to build core competitiveness.

Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs): WISPS need networks to provide broadband access for the

citizens and enterprises in countryside, mall stores, hospitals, and science and technology parks where

Internet access is limited.

Governments: Governments need to acquire video surveillance and remote data to build Smart Cities.

Education: The industry is moving quickly from a static, classroom-only world to a mobile, geographically-

dispersed model adopting new, exciting ways of teaching and learning (for example eLearning and

MOOCs).

Smart Grid: The transformation of Distribution Automation (DA) and Advanced Metering Infrastructure

(AMI) in cities and rural area require wireless solutions due to difficult city reconstruction and limited

networks in rural areas.

Transportation: The railway industry must provide passengers with better travel experiences and

strengthen travel convenience and security.

The Huawei eLTE broadband access solution is based on the most advanced LTE technology to provide Internet

services from the enterprise to the home, such as mobile office, VoIP, data acquisition, video surveillance,

Internet surfing, and other broadband services, all on a single network:

eLTE Broadband Access Solution

Downlink 100 Mbit/s and Uplink 50 Mbit/sBased on advanced LTE technology, the Huawei eLTE solution can support a downlink data rate of up to 100 Mbit/s and

an uplink rate of 50 Mbit/s.

The Huawei eLTE solution can support high-speed coverage. In Shanghai’s 430 km/h Maglev train, passengers can

enjoy 50 Mbit/s high-speed downlink data services via the eLTE network. Due to this high-speed coverage, railway

operators can ensure safe operations, improve passenger travel experiences, and explore new businesses, such as online

advertising.

Although broadband services are necessary to improve operational efficiency, deployment over wired networks in remote

areas, such as offshore or desert drilling platforms, is difficult. The Huawei eLTE with ultra-long-distance coverage of up

to 37 km at 1 Mbit/s solves these problems and saves costs.

Voice, Video, and Data Service All-in-oneHigh performance simplifies the operational process by supporting multiple services in one network, including mobile office,

VoIP, High-Definition (HD) video surveillance, remote data acquisition, and other broadband data access on a single network,

enhancing enterprise communication and enriching people’s lives.

High-Performance Allows Multi-Services in One Network

MultibandSince many frequencies are allocated to mobile operators in scattered locations, it is important for industries to adapt to

different frequencies. Huawei eLTE provides a wide frequency menu, including LTE-TDD 1.8G/2.3G/2.6G/3.5G/3.7 GHz and

LTE-FDD 700M/800M/900M/1.8G/1.9G/2.1 GHz/AWS for a variety of markets. Users can select one or more frequency

products, according to their specific needs. In some situations, Huawei can customize the frequency for the customer.

Flexible NetworkingDifferent scenarios require different network scales. eLTE provides a series of products, a 2U core network, and a 14U core

network for large-, medium-, and small-sized networks.

The Huawei eLTE 2U core network combines MME/SGW/PGW/HSS/PCRF in one box. It is the smallest LTE core network

in the industry, supporting 5,000 subscribers, 50 eNodeBs, and 2 Gbit/s throughput, suitable for some small- and

medium-sized networks.

The 14U core network combines MME/SGW/PGW/HSS/PCRF in one subrack, supporting 200,000 subscribers, 1,500

eNodeBs, and 40 Gbit/s throughput. It can be used for some large-sized networks.

Lightweight Network Management for Easy O&MIn the monitoring center, the Huawei eLTE solution provides eSight for PC server Network Management. eSight enables users

to remotely manage end-to-end enterprise wireless network devices, including the DBS3900 LTE, eCNS610, and even large-

scale Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) with the unified O&M GUI, simplifying management procedures.

Ruggedized Devices for Industry ApplicationsCompared to the typical consumer market, sometimes industrial working conditions are harsh and complex. In compliance

with IP67, most eLTE solution devices deployed onsite can be kept under one meter of water for at least 30 minutes. With

a working temperature of the Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) eA660 at -40 to +65ºC, it can operate normally even in

the extreme temperatures of the desert or the Arctic Circle. Another CPE, eA360, is designed for more standard scenarios.

VLANA Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) is a logical subnet, established on a physical network, which can help create multiple

networks on a single physical infrastructure to greatly simplify network design. It can also separate different services, such as

O&M commands, signal, and data services, to control traffic patterns and react quickly to relocations, reducing equipment costs.

VRF and Routing behind Managed Services (MS)VRF: Through this feature, an eCNS can be logically divided into multiple virtual eCNSs. Each virtual eCNS works

independently as an eCNS and has its own routing table and interface for data forwarding. In addition, traffic of different

services can be separated.

Routing behind MS: When the routing behind MS feature is enabled, multiple terminals can access the Evolved Packet Core

(EPC) and initiate bidirectional services to communicate with the application server through a CPE.

Core Network Interoperability by Standard InterfaceThe eCNS600 can communicate with logical modules in the EPCs deployed by other vendors through the S6a (with HSS

and PCRF), S10 (with MME), and S5/S8 (with PGW/SGW) interfaces. In addition, these eCNS600s can communicate with the

Huawei CG9812 through the Ga interface.

Offline ChargingThe offline charging feature allows the eCNS to generate Call Detail Records (CDRs) and send them in GTPv2 packets to

the Charging Gateway (CGW). After saving, combining, and performing standardized preprocessing on these CDRs, the

CGW generates a standard bill and sends it to the billing system.

Enterprise users are charged by service traffic or duration, which provides service settlement references between

enterprises or between enterprises and operators.

Enterprises can analyze user behaviors and habits based on the service usage in CDRs, which helps enterprises design

their network operating strategies.

Enterprise users can check service fees based on the service usage.

This feature supports traffic- and service-duration-based charging modes

99.999% Availability

eCNS RedundancyIn N+1 eCNS redundancy, one eNodeB can be connected to multiple eCNSs. Based on a preset load-sharing policy, the

eNodeB assigns UE services to the eCNSs. If the eNodeB detects that one eCNS is faulty, the eNodeB adjusts the load-sharing

policy based on the configuration and transfers services of UEs connected to the faulty eCNS to another eCNS. The call

handled by the failed eCNS will be dropped, and a new call can be established in 10 seconds.

This feature achieves core network redundancy and enhances network availability. At the same time, this feature increases

the maximum data throughput when network forwarding capability is insufficient.

1+1 Backup of eCNS Boards

The major boards of the eCNS600, including the OMU, ISU, SWU, USI, QXI, and SWI, work in 1+1 active/standby mode to

ensure equipment reliability.

eNodeB Main Control Board

Two Universal Main Processing and Transmission Units (UMPTs) are configured in the eNodeB, one is active and the other is

standby. When there is a fault, the active UMPT will switch over to the standby state while the original standby unit switches

over to the active state. Services can be recovered within three minutes.

Baseband Board Backup

In an Huawei eNodeB, multiple LTE Baseband Processing (LBBP) boards can be configured to serve multiple cells. If an LBBP

fails, the cell/cells served by the LBBP can be reestablished on another operating LBBP with spare resources or on a backup

LBBP if one is available.

Quality of Service ControlWhen different types of services are running on the network at the same time, they compete for bandwidth resources.

With QoS control, critical services will be carried by a dedicated carrier to guarantee high-priority services can be

preferentially performed.

Uplink-Downlink Configuration Type 0, Type 1, Type 2

This feature allows operators to flexibly configure uplink-downlink configurations based on specific service requirements in

LTE-TDD network.

eNodeBs support the following uplink-downlink configurations defined in 3GPP TS 36.211:

Type 0: The ratio of the number of uplink subframes to the number of downlink subframes is 3:1. The uplink cell

throughput reaches the maximum configured throughput and is dedicated to meeting high uplink capacity requirements,

such as video surveillance.

Type 1: The ratio of the number of uplink subframes to the number of downlink subframes is 2:2. If this uplink-downlink

configuration is used, resources are evenly allocated to uplink and downlink.

Type 2: The ratio of the number of uplink subframes to the number of downlink subframes is 1:3. If this uplink-downlink

configuration is used, downlink throughput is greater than uplink throughput.

*In this table, D indicates subframes reserved for downlink transmission, U indicates subframes reserved for uplink

transmission, and S indicates special subframes. A special subframe consists of three fields: DwPTS, GP, and UpPTS.
