In an endeavour to keepabreast of the everincreasing legislationconcerning the provisionof adequate first-aidequipment and facilities,we have expanded andimproved our alreadycomprehensive range ofEmergency Eyebath andEye/Facewash Models.

With our extensive range,we can cater for allpossible applications,whether it be in a factory,washroom, laboratory oreven a school. All modelsare built to the higheststandards and aredesigned to be very quickand simple to operate.

Most of the Eyebaths andEye/Facewashes withinthis range are designedfor use indoors but maybe located outdoors inwarm climates.

Eyebaths andEye/Facewash Fountainsare designed to washaway contaminants fromthe eyes and face quicklyand continuously for 10-15 minutes or longer, asrecommended by theInternational Health andSafety Organisations.

Eyewash Bottlescontaining a SalineSolution alone do notmeet this criteria; suchbottles should only beused after a 10-15 minutewash using a plumbed-inEyebath or Eye/FacewashUnit.

STATIONS

Where Eyewash facilitiesare required at specificlocations that areunsuitable for fixedinstallations the portablerange offers an effectivesolution. It means thatemergency treatment canbe available at anyworkplace providing vitalfirst-aid.

They are ideal for largesites, and as part of theon-board first-aidequipment carried byroad tankers and othervehicles transportingdangerous chemicals.

Rechargeable cylinderunits are convenient andeasily carried, providingessential first-aid until thecasualty is moved to anEye/Facewash installationcapable of delivering the10-15 minutes continuousflushing recommended bythe International Healthand Safety Organisations.Larger mobile units cansustain a longer period offlushing and, with theaddition of the Optiflexhand held Shower, boththe cylinder and mobileunits can be used to washminor contaminationfrom all parts of the body.

Mobile self-containedEmergency Eye/FacewashFountain. Suitable for temporaryuse and capable of delivering acopious quantity of water forover 5 minutes. TheEye/Facewash is made fromunbreakable acrylic capped ABSplastic and incorporates anintegral lid to ensure that thebowl remains clean and freefrom contamination at all times.The facewash diffusers are

designed to give a gentleflow of aerated water and

are fitted with fine meshstrainers and a flowcontroller. This unit is

easily filled byconnecting to a mains

water supply via a 15 or 20 mmhose pipe and is then easilymanoeuvred to its requiredposition either by hand or byusing the ‘A’ frame (optional)and hooking up to a standardtow ball on a vehicle. Thewheel centres can be adjustedto enable the unit to be takenthrough a standard dooropening allowing it to be usedin laboratories and work roomsetc. The mild steel cylinder ispolypropylene lined to avoidinternal corrosion and theexterior is painted with acidresistant white enamel paint.A pressure gauge is fitted toindicate when the cylinder is full.The Optiflex Eye, Face and BodyShower can also be fitted and isused for decontaminating partsof the body that have beensubject to minor contamination.

A wide range of optionalfittings are available foruse with Eyebaths andEye/Facewash Fountains.They are designed tocontribute towards theeffectiveness of theequipment by enhancingits performance andmaking it easier to use incases of emergency.

Quality is the keyconsideration for anysafety equipment and alloptional fittings aredesigned and built to thesame high standardsadopted throughout theHughes range. Carefulchoice of materialsensures reliable operationand a long, trouble-freelife.

Care must be takenwherever water is leftstanding for lengthyperiods, as in the case ofportable eyewashequipment. The eyes areparticularly susceptible toinfection and damage,and to flush them withcontaminated water couldbe counter productive. Toensure that standingwater remains safe to use,Hughes offer a range ofadditives to inhibit thegrowth of potentiallyharmful bacteria. Cleaningkits are also available forroutine use to maintainsafe, hygienic conditions.
