Dig In

SAY: Thanks for joining us for a fun night of fellowship with your sisters in Christ! As one church body we are strong, and it’s important for us to fellowship and serve together. But there are also times when it’s helpful—even necessary—that we meet with just girls as young women, to uniquely provide support and encouragement for each other in spiritual as well as relational growth. Everyone, at times, needs and craves time with just the girls.

Before we begin our activities today, let’s come together for a moment of prayer.

PRAY: Gracious God, we thank you for creating us uniquely—male and female. We are grateful for the fellowship we can have as the body of Christ together as well as exclusively with our sisters in Christ. God, we pray that you will bless our time together today; may it be fruitful in strengthening our faith and may we learn how we can support and encourage each other as we journey in our faith together. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Text, tweet, and/or update your group’s Facebook page to remind the teens about the gathering. Here are some message ideas:

• Everyone loves a night out with just the girls. It’s spa night 4 the girls—Join us tomorrow night!

• Girls’ Night Out – Discipleship @ [Time & Place]! Come hang out and get pampered!

Sink Roots

After the Opening Prayer, the girls will stay at your church for a night of pampering. Light some candles and turn on some music to set the stage for a fun and relaxing evening. Then let the girl-stuff begin!

Have a volunteer to prep your chocolate fondue fountain. Be sure to have plenty of healthy fruits such as strawberries and bananas for dipping or enjoying alone.

Bring all of the supplies necessary for your spa night, or see if professionals in your parish (hair dressers, manicurists, masseuses) would be willing to donate their time to provide the spa services for the girls at no charge.

Live it!

SAY: What a great way to spend some quality girl time together today! It’s so important for us to remember to spend time cultivating our relationships with a group of girls at church to help us stay accountable in our faith and our values. As we close our time together, let’s take a look at Proverbs 27:17: “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” As you meditate on this verse, consider these questions. Write down your thoughts on your Teen Pages, and then we’ll take a few moments to share our insights with each other.

➜ Why is it important to have a group of friends of our same gender to walk our faith journey?

➜ How can we “sharpen” each other?

➜ How will you commit to building a core group of girls that can help you sharpen your faith and values?

Closing Prayer

SAY: I want to thank everyone for coming tonight. It’s been a lot of fun getting to know each other better! Let this evening be a foundation for building a sisterhood of faith, so we can continue to sharpen each other as we grow in goodness and grace. Let’s close our time together in prayer.

PRAY: Most Holy God, we thank you for our time together tonight. We are grateful that you value relationship and that you will continue to provide opportunities for us to fellowship with our sisters in Christ, because these relationships help us to draw closer to you as well. In Your Most Holy Name, Amen.

Having a group of girls that you can count on is priceless. Here are some ideas for you to begin building those relationships:

• Facebook: Start a private Facebook page for the girls in your small group. This is a great place for everyone to touch base—especially if you are at different schools. Encourage everyone in the group to post prayer requests, praises, and encouraging words that will lift up and support each of you throughout the year.

• Serve Together: A great way to build relationships with others is to serve together. Discuss a project that you can all do together to serve your community, such as helping in your church nursery, doing crafts with the elderly at a local nursing home, or volunteering at your community Humane Society. You may even consider signing up to serve on a mission trip together over the summer.

• Jeweled Reminders: Talk with the girls in your group about shopping together for matching bracelets, necklaces, or rings. Wear the jewelry daily as a reminder throughout the day to hold each other accountable, offer encouragement to one another, and pray for each other.

Q 2: Quotes and Questions

“Sisterhood is the essence of all the wisdom of the ages, distilled into a single word. You cannot see sisterhood, neither can you hear it nor taste it. But you can feel it a hundred times a day. It is a pat on the back, a smile of encouragement. It's someone to share with, to celebrate your achievements.” —Anonymous

parent sheet

Girls’ Night OutParents, we invite you to use this overview to continue the conversation that we started this week with your teen. And we encourage you to respond to the questions as well, so your teen can see that God is working through you also.

What We’re Talking About

Every girl enjoys a little pampering once in a while. Tonight, your daughter experienced an evening of food, fellowship, and spa treatments with other young ladies at church. While enjoying a relaxing evening together, these girls discovered the importance of having other young women join them on their spiritual journey. Other Christian females can offer our girls prayer, encouragement, and care as they grow and live out their faith every day.

Make the Connection

Spend some time hanging out with your teenage daughter, and show her that you’re walking alongside her on her faith journey as well. Here are some conversation starters:

Q 2: Quotes and Questions

“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” —Proverbs 27:17

➜ What was your favorite activity to do with your girlfriends as a teen?

➜ Who are the female friends in your life that you couldn’t live without, and why?

➜ What is a regular activity that you can share or experience together to grow your relationship?

➜ Also, talk with your daughter about how you can support her through encouragement and prayer, and then commit to doing it every day.
