Animals being presented for slaughter destocking in Isiolo – VSF-S- ERF implemented project looking at Emergency Slaughter de-stocking. 1st April to 31st October. The recurrent droughts over the past ten years have made it difficult for pastoralists to recover from the loss of livestock and livelihood. From a rapid needs assessment done in late March 2011, Merti district was found to be most severely hit by the impact of the drought with 67.5% of the population in need of support (16,397 people). This was followed by Oldonyiro with 62.5% of the population in need (9,934 people). Main objective of this intervention was to mitigate declining food security and preserve pastoralist livelihoods through increased availability of cash and meat to vulnerable households.

Seed, seedling and sacks distribution for domestic use. 1200 HH engaged in vegetables production by the end of the project Garden-in-a-sack.

Food security and livelihood assistance for vulnerable slum dwellers in Nairobi COOPI, 26 September to 20 Jan 2012. Sectors: Food & Water and Sanitation. Reduction of food insecurity and malnutrition of inhabitants in Mathare and Huruma informal settlements in Nairobi by increasing households’ purchasing power and food access. Cash for Work (CFW), small scale urban agriculture and hygiene and nutrition awareness campaigns. which will allow slum dwellers to access cash. 600 HH amongst target groups earn at least 120 dollars by end of the project.
