Course Description
This is an introductory humanities course that surveys the social, cultural and artistic history of the Western world. Using an interdisciplinary approach, an overview of the visual arts, music, theater, dance, film and architecture in context with the philosophy, literature, religion, aesthetic theory and political events surrounding them is presented. Students gain a basic familiarity with major styles, some understanding of the ideological, chronological and technical implications of those styles, and also a feeling for the historical development of individual arts disciplines.
