This document is available in alternate format on request. Scope: 1. Active employees, active members of the Humber Board of Governors, active politicians, active Program Advisory Committee members, and current students shall not be eligible to receive an honorary degree. 2. Posthumous honorary credentials will be considered. If a candidate passes away after accepting an invitation, but prior to convocation, the honorary credential will be awarded to an individual designated by the recipient's family or other legal representative. 3. In exceptional circumstances, the College may choose to waive these requirements in order to allow the College to honour truly meritorious individuals. Definitions: Active Employee: A person employed by the College on a full-time basis or contract basis. College Community: All students, staff, and volunteers of the College. . HUMBER Policy:

1. General

1.1. The credential awarded will be an Honorary Bachelor of Applied Studies, as per Ministry policy directives.

1.2. The College may not charge any fees for or issue payment to the (proposed) recipient of an honorary applied degree.

1.3. The recipient of the Honorary Bachelor of Applied Studies, as per Ministry policy directives, must meet one or more of the following criteria:

1.3.1. made a significant contribution to society; 1.3.2. achieved noted accomplishments in a particular field of study or applied

education; 1.3.3. enhanced or promoted the College's image and reputation in Ontario or

elsewhere; or 1.3.4. demonstrates the values of the College.

1.4. The College maintains the right to determine whether or not to award honorary degrees in any particular academic year.

1.5. Honorary degrees will be presented during a convocation ceremony. The recipient must agree to be present as a condition of receiving the award unless the honorary degree is being presented posthumously. The recipient will be invited to address the convocation.

1.6. Confidentiality is to be maintained throughout the nomination and selection process.

2. Nominations of Honorary Degrees

2.1. Nominations for honorary degrees may be submitted by any member of the College community using the Nomination for Honorary Degree form (see Appendix A) at any time during the year, however, a formal nomination call will be issued annually in September.

2.2. All nominations are reviewed by a cross-institutional selection committee, as per the Honorary Degree Procedure.

3. Rescinding an Honorary Degree

3.1. Rescinding an honorary degree shall be on the recommendation of the Presi_dent, made to the Board of Governors. The recommendation shall be based on evidence and guided by the principle of fairness and shall only be made after the President has ascertained the relevant facts related to the case under consideration.

3.2. The Board of Governors shall consider rescinding an honorary address should it become known that the recipient has been:

3.2.1. convicted of a criminal offence; 3.2.2. engaged in conduct that constitutes a significant departure from generally­

recognized standards of public behavior which is seen to undermine the credibility, integrity or relevance of the college; or

3.2.3. subject to official sanction, such as a fine or a reprimand, by an adjudicating body, professional association or other organization.
