Principal’s News

The commencement of learning at 2018 has certainly taken off. As I move out and about, I see our classrooms are bright and settled, our teachers are so very organised and planned; and our students are happy, inquisitive and have adapted to new routines. As well as establishing relationships and routines the first few weeks, we are also creating learning goals from our learning data folders. We look forward to sharing these with families in Week 4, at our Open Evening.

Uniforms It is great to see many of our students in the new full uniform. The school bucket hat and plain/school black shorts (at least mid-thigh length) are also part of our compulsory uniform. For safety reasons, hair longer than shoulder length must be tied back while at school and enclosed shoes must be worn at all times while at school.

Supervised Eating and Playtime After some consideration amongst staff, we are have added a 10 minute specified eating time at recess in addition to our 10 minute eating time at lunch. Students therefore are always eating inside a classroom. If food is purchased at our canteen during recess or lunchtime, student will sit and eat in our assembly area. This change brings important benefits which include: students and teachers sitting together while eating to further enhance relationships, ensuring students do eat something to maintain energy levels and reducing/eliminating rubbish in our playground.

Open Evening All families and students are welcome to our Open Evening on Tuesday 20 February. This is a chance to visit your child’s classroom and discuss their individual learning goal. The evening will commence at 5pm with a free sausage sizzle, moving into classrooms at 5:30pm. At 6pm after time spent in the classrooms, there will be two parent information sessions you may choose to attend: Year 5/6 Canberra Camp – itinerary, requirements and behaviour expectations. This

will be held in Ms Hinds classroom at 6pm. Improving Reading – information about assisting your child develop skills and a love

for reading at home eg. This will be held in the Library at 6pm.

Thank You I would like to say a special thank you to the parents who came to our ‘laminating party’ on Wednesday. We even had one very dedicated group return on Thursday to complete the creation of the maths resources! Thank you, your time and efforts are very much appreciated.
