Your composition must use one of the statements and one of the given images. Colour versions of the images will be available digitally.

After you have submitted your composition your teacher will provide you with feedback comments. Use this feedback to refine your writing in preparation for the formal presentation task.

Your composition should be approximately 800 words. The best writing will explore the concept of Discovery in an original and engaging way, applying a range of literary techniques to enhance meaning and audience impact. Your understanding of Discovery needs to be evident in your writing.

PART B – Presentations (Week 9)Key Question -

‘The process of discovery involves uncovering what is hidden and reconsidering what is known.’

How is this perspective on discovery explored in your creative writing, your prescribed text and ONE other related text of your own choosing?

Prepare a 6 minute presentation on the concept of Discovery in which you address the key question above. You will present to an audience of your peers. Your presentation must address two parts:

Explicitly outline how your creative writing integrates the stimulus material Clearly outline how the representation of “Discovery” in your composition has been shaped and influenced by

Discovery Writing Task

Write a third person narrative that explores our impetus to discover through the response of a character. Write about a character who:

Desires to discover the world but can’t find the will to leave their home Is travelling but finds the world to be nothing but a collection of airports and service centres Is travelling with no expectation of discovery; and yet discovers something significant Goes somewhere that they think will be exotic but finds it has been packaged and commercialised Finds their real discoveries lack the power and significance of their imagined ones. Seeks a place of natural beauty that they hope will restore and inspire them Returns home disappointed by their failure to discover Uses the creative arts as a mechanism to enhance discovery.

These images may be of assistance to your task. You are encouraged to find a visual image that will support your writing as part of this process. You must choose one of these image.
