Hussein Chalayan 2007 SS Hussein Chalayan 2007 SS If I had to define my philosophy, it would be about exploration, a journey, a story-telling. -Hussein Chalayan On the left, is the Dior, “Cherie” Dinner Dress SS 1947, was in the, “New Look” collection which Chalayan pulled some of his inspiration throughout his 2007 SS collection, such as the dress on the right. The dress on the right has forms similar to Dior’s dress having a “flare” effect esent- uating the form of a woman’s hips, and slim waist. Also, in the background, are sketches by Dior, in which both sketc- hes done by Dior display a “hat” similar to the hat worn in Chalayan’s dress on the right. On the left, is the Dior, “Bar” suit and jacket from his New Look collection in 1947. However, the focus and sim- ilarity between Chalayan’s design on the right and Dior’s, is the hat detail. These two hats both have a similarity in sh- ape, yet the one on the right having more of a “modern” look with a twist of futuristic technology, and Dior’s hat ha- ving a more “classic” look. Dior designed these two dresses with the vision of billowing skirts and excess use of fabric to crea- te a look of feminity, which Chalayan was inspired to crea- te a more modern look which included the detail of the “soft” shoulder straps, however shortening the skirt, which makes the dress more of a modern look, rather than clas- sical look.
