CHAPTER 5 – XANTÉ Utilities: Macintosh and PCThis chapter covers controlling some of printer features via XANTÉ Utilities, PPD optionsin your application Print dialog box, and your browser.

XANTÉ UtilitiesFlexible XANTÉ Utilities allow you to control such printer features as printing utilitypages, aligning printer margins, and setting the TCP/IP address. Depending on thefeature, you may control it via PPD options in your application Print dialog box, via aXANTÉ Utilities CD-ROM program or file, or via your internet browser.

Several features can be accessed more than one way. For example, you can controlstartup page printing and EtherTalk zone name changes using CD-ROM PostScriptfiles or options available through your browser.

PPD: Feature AccessYour printer’s PostScript Printer Description (PPD) allows you to select many printerfeature settings from your application’s Print dialog box. These settings overrideprinter default settings and other software application settings.

For these options to be available, the Adobe PostScript printer driver and yourprinter’s PPD must be installed and configured properly. This is done during theinitial printer setup. See chapter 2 (Macintosh) or 3 (PC) for details.

If you change options later such as installing an optional feeder and tray or a memoryupgrade, you need to reconfigure the PPD to reflect the change(s). This section coversreconfiguring the PPD for Macintosh and PC environments.

Macintosh: Reconfiguring the PPDIf you add an upgrade after initial printer setup, use the following procedure toupdate the PPD configuration. The optional feeder and tray upgrade is used as anexample for this procedure.
