The seniors got the football programme underway on Wednesday 29th September, with an away trip victory at RWS. In an extraordinary game that saw 13 goals scored, Hydesville got off to a perfect start when debutant Gurjevan Shocker scored from 20 yards from the left hand corner of the penalty box with an unstoppable shot into the top corner. Hydesville then dominated the next 10 minutes and scored a further two goals which were well-worked moves down the left and right hand side of the opposition penalty area defence. Troy Richards and Harry Hurst were pivotal in the creating both of these goals which were both scored by Jack Nagy in the 14th and 18th minute. Hydesville then had a 'shoot on sight' policy that rewarded them with further chances, which they were unable to convert due to some last ditch tackling and goalkeeping. Hydesville then lost concentration and conceded their first goal on 20 minutes when failing to track a forward's run into the penalty box. In a frantic last 15 minutes of the half, which saw the play go from one end to the other, a further three goals were scored to leave the half time score RWS 2-5 Hydesville. The second half saw a repeat of the first, as both teams went in search of their next goal. Goalkeeper Liam Taylor had to be at his best on two occasions to block shots when one on one with an opposition attacker. However, clinical finishing at the other end saw Hydesville score further goals from Stephen Cummings and Aaron Whitbrook to make the score 7-3 after 50 minutes. Both teams then made a number of substitutions, with some players making their competitive debuts in unfamiliar positions. At this stage, both teams were beginning to tire on a pitch that had received a lot of rain during the day and as players began to lose concentration, the game opened up even more and saw a further 3 goals before the final whistle. Despite the rapid scoring, Hydesville were always 2 goals or more ahead from the 14th minute onwards. Well done to all those players in the 14 man squad. A mixture of years made up the squad and it was encouraging to see players starting to understand their own roles within the team and working together as a cohesive unit in the second half. Stand out performances in attack were captain Aaron Whitbrook, Stephen Cummings, Harry Hurst and Sunraj Johal in defence.

Tuesday 30th November 2010The Inter-house Swimming Gala Jeans for Genes provides funding for the care and support of children with genetic disorders. They also help to

fund research into genetics and the development of effective treatments and cures. The pupils of Hydesville Tower took part in a range of activities from a treasure hunt, to decorating old jeans for a beautiful display. Thank you to everyone who took part.

Playing on an unfamiliar grass surface Hydesville got off to a slow start finding it difficult to move the ball on a much slower surface. During this time Heathfield managed to score 3 goals. Pavandeep Kachala and Sarena Johal gradually tightened things up in defence by hitting the ball wide and making it more difficult for Heathfield to score. Isher Mander and Charlotte Mould started to create opportunities for scoring and through determination finally both managed to put the ball into the net. Keirath Dhugga and Amelia Sanders should be commended on their performance both playing in their first match for Hydesville. Charlotte Mould was voted as player of the match by the opposition. Well done to all. It was a valiant effort. The final score was 4-2 to Heathfield.

The Squad: Sarena Johal, Isher Mander, Charlotte Mould, Iram Mehboob, Neha Kharabanda, Pavandeep Kachala, Amelia Sanders, Keirath Dhugga.

The U15 Netball team played their first fixture of the season against a very strong team comprising of county players. Hydesville played a mature game with the ball moving well down the court but in the first half we struggled to get the ball into the shooters. At half time the GA (Danielle Gladstone) and the GS (Bronte Kerr) swapped places and this worked well. Bronte was moving quickly in the circle and we were able to get on the score board. Suman Aamer played her first game for Hydesville firstly as WD and later in the match as

GK. She should be commended on an excellent debut performance. Monique Sall was strong and very reliable in defence and Priya Tiwana moved quickly down the court with some very good passing. Isabelle Knight was nominated by the opposition as player of the match in her role as centre. Well done.

Over 300 runners attended the annual West Midlands cross-country trials, although this was the first time that Hydes-ville has entered this prestigious competition. This year's competition was held at The War Memorial Park in SW Coventry. Selection for the cross country trials was based on performances at the inter-house competition held in March 2010 and the county athletics championship held in Birmingham last June. The first race of the day saw 64 year 7 girls at the start line for this 2 mile race. Marianne Hughes was the sole representative from Hydesville and after 300 metres she was 7th, moving into 4th at the half way point. Following the stream jump, which represented the half way point of the race, Marianne settled into the main group. At the finish line, Marianne came 15th, which saw her receive an invite to compete at the regional competition. In the next race, Isher Mander and Charlotte Mould competed against another 57 runners to run 2.5 miles. Following the heavy rain in the previous 72 hours and with a race already being run, the ground was wet, muddy and slippy underfoot and a number of runners fell over. Both Isher and Charlotte made good starts with both in the top 20 at the 500 metres marker point. As the runners made their way onto the back field, the ground became even wetter as both Charlotte and Isher battled hard against many runners who were a year older than them. At the finish, Isher finished 19th, just ahead of Charlotte in 23rd. Well done to both runners, particularly as they will still be in the same age category next year. In the final race of the day, Harry Hurst was competing with 28 other cross country runners, who were 'seasoned' campaigners over tough cross country courses. Harry made a steady start and was initially 7th, before easing through to 6th at the 0.5 mile mark. With a race distance of 3.5 miles, this was always going to be about cardiovascular fitness and Harry moved progressively through the field. At 2 miles, Harry was 3rd, a position he maintained with determined running for the next 1.5 miles. Harry finished 3rd, beaten by two runners who are a year older. Like Marianne, Harry also received an invite to the regional competition in November. Congratulations and well done to all runners who competed on the day and hopefully this will motivate you to great efforts of running in future. The West Midlands cross country races, will see Marianne and Harry compete against others from all over the country on Saturday 20th November in Bridgnorth, Shropshire. Good luck to the both of them next month. Mr Collins would also like to express his thanks and appreciation to all parents who attended the race in Coventry to support their children on the day. Cross-country resultsMarianne Hughes [Year 7 girls] - 15th, qualified for West Midlands regional race.Harry Hurst [Year 10/11 boys] - 3rd, qualified for West Midlands regional race.Isher Mander [Year 8/9 girls] - 19th.Charlotte Mould [Year 8/9 girls] - 23rd.

On Wednesday 22nd October, our Reception children visited Walsall Library where they had fun looking at books of their choice before hearing some stories read by one of the Librarians. Storybooks are a great medium through which we share personal experiences, discuss emotions and compare ideas about what’s right and what’s wrong. We love a story at the end of the day in Reception.

On Thursday 23rd October, Years 1 and 2 visited the Art Gallery where they were given the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of various artists by drawing their own interpretation of trees reflecting the changes in the seasons. They also tried their hand at sculpting with plasticine. Here are some of the impressive results.....

The children were also given the chance to play market stall holders, musicians, banqueters, puppeteers, and general explorers in the ‘Discovery area’.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS TO: Tarun Patel on the 10th October

Reception have recently been looking at, and tasting, various types of apples. Here they are sampling Pink Ladies, Red Chiefs, Granny Smiths, Golden Delicious, Royal Galas and Braeburns. They then sketched and coloured a cross section of an apple and later went on to produce some lovely sequence patterns by apple printing and comparing apple sizes as part of their Numeracy curriculum.

Sound table

The sound of the week next week will be ‘t’ down the tower across the tower.

Nursery children have enjoyed an Autumn walk within the Arboretum where we talked about and looked for the signs of Autumn. We looked closely at the different colours, shapes and sizes of trees and leaves, followed by collecting the leaves to bring back to Nursery to print an create our own Autumn tree.
