Disc floats and allows face to face alignment

The front disc floats against the back disc creating a mated interface and assuring a positive seal.

Differential pressure across the upstream disc promotes sealing, and stabilizes control surfaces.

Discs are lapped to within two light-bands of flatness (.00002) to achieve a positive shut-off and maintain precise control.

Principle of Operation

Hydroplex chokes are Multiple Orifice Valves (MOV) specifically designed to control high pressure liquids and gases while providing reliability and extended service. The body and control surfaces are constructed to provide optimum meantime between services, and the modular construction make the valve easily serviceable on site or completely repairable with minimal down time. The design flexibility allows for field conversions from manual to automated, and single stage to multiple stage pressure drops. The optional abrasion resistant wear sleeve is designed to direct the flow from the discs to the centerline of the piping. This option will extend the useful life of the valve by reducing the effects of cavitation and mechanical erosion typically present in the fluid recovery process after the pressure drop.

1. Valve Body: Durable and corrosion resistant 316 stainless material.

2. Hub Assembly: Allows easy access to internals without breaking pipe connections, disconnecting or recalibrating the actuator. The design allows for less expensive replacement of the downstream hub in lieu of replacing the whole valve body.

3. Wear Sleeve (Optional): All valve hubs allow for wear sleeves. The wear sleeve is made from a durable Stellite material for abrasive or turbulent environments extending valve life.

4. Fixed Orifice Bean (Optional): The hub design allows for placement of a Fixed Orifice Bean to achieve up to a 2(HCI) or 3(HCA/HCY) stage pressure drop within the valve. The fixed orifice bean also extends the life of the valve.

5. MOV Trim: All valves come standard with Tungsten Carbide Trim available in sizes up to 3/4”.

6. Rotator: The smaller rotator outside diameter reduces operating torque, requiring smaller and less expensive actuators.

The Hydroplex HCI Segmented Inline choke Valve provides many of the same features common on Hydroplex choke valves but at a lower initial cost. The simplified inline design lends itself easily to manual actuation, although it may be automated as the need arises. Because it uses the standard Hub on the downstream side it can be outfitted with a wear sleeve or utilizing a multistage PD system we can specify a fixed orifice bean to accommodate large pressure drops. The inline design and smaller rotator size also allows for lower operating torques.

The direct mount capabilites reduces the risk of hysteresis while helping to protect the actuator shaft from the elements. The modular hub design makes the valve completely repairable and can handle large pressure drops utilizing our Multistage PD system to include upstream and downstream fixed orifice beans.

Multistage PD Assemblies are used for reducing fluid pressure or flow (velocity). While single stage trims are often sufficient to meet the requirements, there are situations due to process conditions where a single pressure drop is unacceptable. In these situations, the use of a Multiple Stage PD valve is a better solution. Obviously the primary consideration for the use of multiple restriction is the pressure drop, regardless whether the fluid is liquid or vapor/gas. Higher pressure drop implies higher velocities resulting in erosion, vibration and noise problems.

Consideration should be given for use in gas applications at critical flow. If the process condition indicates critical flow with a single pressure drop, Multistage PD valves can be used to avoid operating at or above the critical pressure. Critical implies a pressure drop across the device exceeding 50% of the absolute upstream pressure at which point sonic velocity is reached.

Where high pressure drops in liquid flows are required, multistage PD assemblies should be used to achieve the pressure drop while reducing the potential for problems such as cavitation, flashing and high noise levels.

Multistage Choke Assembly

The Hydra Choke hub system is designed as a versatile solution for client specific application, valve installation and maintenance. The unique locking wedge ring design allows for greater sealing force while minimizing stress concentrations. The hub is a “repair part” extending the service life of the valve assembly. A major benefit of this design is working pressure migration. The body is rated at ANSI Class 2500 regardless of end connection. To increase or decrease the pressure class of the valve, simply change out the hubs. For example, replacing both hub assemblies rated at ANSI Class 150 with assemblies rated at Class 2500 will allow the product to be moved from MAWP 275 psi to a 5000 psi working pressure.

An additional feature of the hub is the ability to install wear sleeves or fixed orifices to provide greater protection and extended service.
