HYDRAULIC DOCK LEVELER
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This description is published by Kollias Ltd for the technical specification of the hydraulic
dock levelers Model HDL 2020, Model HDL 2025, Model HDL 2030, Model HDL 2225, Model
HDL 2230 and custom made models according to the Kollias Ltd/Smart Doors Ltd standards.
All the hydraulic dock levelers are produced according to the EN 1398 requirements.
The complete hydraulic dock leveler consists of the following parts:
The prefabricated Metal Frame: it consists of three metallic elements that are placed in the
pit before the installation of the dock leveler and one bracket that keep the whole
construction in place (UPN 160), all four pieces are hold together with screws and bolts.
Moreover, there is one more bracket that is the support for the hydraulic cylinder (hollow
section steel 100x100x6mm).

The two side elements are made of steel plate S235JR thickness 2mm, while the back
element is made of steel plate S235JR thickness 4mm all parts are painted with anticorrosive
paint. The whole construction is kept together with a crosswise support that is removed
after the cement works.
In the front side of the metal frame there is conveniently placed service support pole that
secures the bridge deck to the upper position for the servicing and maintenance of the
hydraulic dock leveler. The service support pole is able to hold either the bridge deck and
the hinge lip secure or only the bridge deck allowing the hinge lip free to move (i.e. for
service purposes).
In the back side, where the shaft that connects the bridge deck to the metal frame is, the
element of the metal frame has vertical metal blades made of steel plate S235JR thickness
8mm that anchor inside the reinforced concrete and give rigid support to shaft that holds
the bridge deck.
Bridge Deck and Hinge Lip: The bridge deck consists of several pieces of steel plate welded
together, the thickness of each part varies according to the design:

The bridge deck is made by special anti slippery tear steel plate 6mm thick. The hinge lip is
made of 15mm thick steel plate specially manufactured with stripes for anti slippery
properties. All steel plates are S235JR and all parts are painted with anticorrosive paint. The
shaft that connects the bridge deck with the hinge lip is made of solid calibrated galvanized
carbon steel with diameter 30mm. The shaft that connects the bridge deck with the
prefabricated metal frame is made of solid calibrated galvanized carbon steel with diameter
30mm.
For the protection of the bridge deck there are two toe guards one in each side made of
galvanized steel plate Z275, 2mm thick, while in each outer (visible) side there is distinctive
black-yellow stripe sticker for the warning when the bridge deck is lifted. The standard
feature for the toe guards is to have wheels on their bottom and fold under the bridge deck
when it is lowered; there is optional feature with 2 pieces telescopic toe guards upon
request.
The bridge deck is equipped with very high quality EBDM rubber that keeps constant contact
between the bridge and the metal frame in order to prevent dust and particles to enter
inside the hydraulic dock leveler. The EBDM rubber is strongly attached to aluminum profile
that is installed on the movable sides of the bridge deck and moves along with the bridge
deck. In the back part, where the shaft that connects the bridge deck to the metal frame is,
the EBDM rubber is firmly fixed but it can be removed, in order to clean up the area and
placed back on.
Hydraulic System: The hydraulic dock leveler is operated by two hydraulic cylinders, one for
the lifting of the bridge deck and one for the lifting of the hinge lip. The hydraulic cylinder for
the lifting of the bridge deck has internal bore 50mm, is single action, stroke 400mm and it is

equipped with safety anti fall valve. The hydraulic cylinder for the lifting of the hinge lip has
internal bore 40mm, is single action, and the stroke is 300mm. The cylinders are
manufactured in Kollias factory and each one is especially designed for the specific
application.
The hydraulic dock leveler is driven by the hydraulic power pack, the operation pressure is
75 to 120 bar and the maximum pressure is 220 bar. The electric motor of the hydraulic
power pack is 3phase, industrial type that operates at 400V, power 1.1KW/2800rpm. The
motor is controlled by the electric control panel. The hydraulic pump has flow 3.5l/min. Oil
tank capacity 5.5l (transparent), the system is supplied with HVI-32 hydraulic oil. The
hydraulic unit is supplied either from Brevini Fluid Power S.p.A. or from BOSCH Rexroth
depending on the application.
The control of the hydraulic system is achieved by the use of mechanical valves. In case of
emergency (i.e. power failure) the standard feature is the bridge deck to move to the lower
position, other features (such as stay at the same point) are available upon request.
Control Panel: The electric control panel is responsible for all the functions of the hydraulic
dock leveler and at the same time protects the whole arrangement (i.e. overloads), the
voltage in the control panel 400V AC, 3ph, while the current to the switches (boutonniere) is
24V AC. Inside the panel there is green light indicating the proper connectivity of the circuit.
The control panel is equipped with emergency stop, electronic thermal control and fuses. All
the control panel is secured in a IP-55 box.
