HYDRO TESTING PROCEDURE FOR SPOOLS. PIPING & FITTINGS

Spongberg Enterprises Ltd. Safe Work Procedure SEL - 005

Purpose

To Provide a Safe Work Procedure for Hydrostatic Testing Spools, Piping and Fittmgs.

1.

2.

ACTION

Determine the type of test

Inspect the woric site.

Write procedure for test

4. Prepare line for test.

INFORMATION

1. Water or 50/50 water/methanol mix

2. Ensure all sections to be tested have been tied together with proper torque.

Ensure the correct size blind flanges and blanks are in place where applicable. See blanking chart.

3. Establish; who is responsible for conducting the test, the yield strength of pipe & fittmgs, test pressure to be used by calculation, and pressurizing and de-pressurizing criteria.

4. Install test head device c/w flanges, valve, pressure indicators or weld caps c/w appropriate testing apparatus.

Inspect test head device for defects such as stripped heads. Check all valves & fittmgs to ensure they have sufficient pressure ratings to withstand pressures applied.

Properly secure Une to be tested, to prevent movement during blowdown process.

SECTION 5 WORK METHOD PROCEDURES

Revised March, 2005

ACTION

5. Establish "Critical Area".

6. Proceed with the test.

7. Depressure test section.

INFORMATION

5. Place warning signs and barricades at aU access point to the test area.

No other work shall take place within this critical area.

Only testing crews personnel wUl be allowed in the test area.

Advise all operating company personnel of the test

6. Establish communication network for test duration.

Hold pressure at one or more intermediate levels to aUow for leak checks and confirm that there are no leaks.

Under no circumstances will any woric be carried out to repair leaks while the line is under pressure. The line must be depressurized, the repair completed, and then repressurize the line.

AUow test medium to stabilize.

AUow for changes in test pressure due to changing temperatures of test medium or changes caused by ambient temperatures.

EstabUsh test period and record pressure through test duration using reliable, calibrated pressure recorders complete with dead weight tester where appUcable.

7. Properly depressurize test section by bleeding pressure off through test head device.

Verify the test section is completely se-pressured prior to removing recording and indicating apparatus.

SECTION 5 WORK METHOD PROCEDURES

Revised March, 2005

ACTION

8. Dewater test section

INFORMATION

If fresh water was used determine if it can be drained on the ground or if it must be caught in barrels or a truck.
