About Hyperdrive

Capsule Technologies (Pty) Ltd was born from the idea of bringing to the video surveillance market innovative concepts for network video recording servers thanks to a software layer combining hyper-convergence and accelerated RAID technology. The software development is carried out internally, making it possible to offer products of comparable quality to the high-end offer of the moment at a very competitive price level.

The South African market in high demand for video surveillance infrastructure was a natural choice to develop tailor-made turn-key solutions, adopted by more than 120 sites since the creation of the company.

In 2017, Capsule Technologies decided to differentiate itself in the Milestone market by developing the Hyperdrive brand, with the goal of developing a range of products completely dedicated and optimised for Milestone XProtect®.

In 2018, Hyperdrive becomes one of the first members of the "Milestone System Builder" program involving the complete integration of Milestone XProtect®, the commitment to first-level support for hardware and Milestone XProtect®, as well as validation by Milestone teams the performance of each product.

In addition to an exceptional price / performance ratio, Hyperdrive offers free redundancy for XProtect® management server through real-time replication of virtual machines between two base blocks.

In 2019, Capsule Technologies is expanding on the European market, starting with the establishment of a French subsidiary.

A unique basic block adapted to all needs specifically designed for Milestone XProtect®. Hyperdrive is above all a high-performance network video recorder supporting up to 200 cameras for a recording bandwidth of 800Mbps.

Hyperdrive is a member of the "Milestone system builder" program, in other words it is a solution validated by the Milestone technical team and which follows strict specifications. Hyperdrive comes with pre-installed XProtect® VMS software for fast production.

With a capacity of up to 12 hard drives with a unit capacity ranging from 2 TB up to 14 TB, Hyperdrive is an ideal choice for medium and large sized sites

Data protection is provided in RAID-6 for a raw capacity ranging from 20TB to 140TB.

Compared to RAID-5, in RAID-6 data consistency is recorded using two parities, only one parity in RAID-5.

The RAID-6 is an additional security allowing the simultaneous loss of two hard drives, also reducing the risks of data corruption following a power failure for example.

For a bullet-proof video surveillance. In addition to standard RAID-6 adoption, Hyperdrive uses virtual machines technology to separate management and recording server roles into separate operating system instances.

When using the system, all changes to the Milestone operating system and database are saved to a ‘live’ image based on a base image.

Specifically, if the live image becomes unusable due to a bad update or a system corruption, the base image remains unchanged, it is possible for the system administrator to immediately retrieve the status as defined on the base image.

Virtual machine images are stored on two SSD disks configured in mirror for maximum protection.

Hyperdrive goes further in term of fault tolerance, Milestone XProtect® already offers from the Pro + version the possibility of configuring redundant recording servers, however the redundancy of the Milestone XProtect® management server was until now only possible at the price of the implementation of a third-party redundancy system.

Hyperdrive offers the ability to replicate in real time the live image of the virtual machine dedicated to the functions of the Milestone XProtect® management server on a secondary system.

Easy implementation and maintenance With its graphical interface accessible from any HTML 5 compatible web browser, managing storage, video recording servers and the management server has never been easier. The initial configuration is done in a few clicks and comes down to configure the IP addresses as well as the configuration of Milestone XProtect®.

The storage is pre-configured and optimised for the best input / output performance under Milestone Xprotect®. Virtual machines are also pre-configured and calibrated optimally for the best performance with Milestone XProtect® in terms of CPU utilisation.

More than just a graphical user interface, it's an intuitive administration portal for complete management of the Milestone XProtect® server and storage infrastructure.

A tailored architecture for Milestone XProtect® The recipe for a high-performance recording server is a perfect balance between hardware resources and their logical implementation. The central brain of Hyperdrive is CAPS-OS®, a middleware developed in-house by Capsule Technologies. CAPS-OS® features a specially designed 5/6 RAID engine for video surveillance workflows, as well as a virtual machine management system for direct access to PCIe buses in the system.

The Intel Xeon® E-2136 processor is continuously clocked at 4.5 Ghz and offers unprecedented performance for massively parallel video stream recordings.
