HyperSync™ Synchronization and speed in specialty packaging molding

2 HyperSync™

Husky is a leading global supplier of manufacturing solutions and services for plastics processors. We design, manufacture and integrate the industry’s most comprehensive range of injection molding equipment, including machines, molds, hot runners, auxiliaries and integrated systems.

3 HyperSync™

The industry’s first fully integrated system for the manufacture of specialty packaging

Building upon proven technologies and the expertise that Husky is known for, our HyperSync™ system is the industry’s first fully inte-grated injection molding system for specialty packaging, providing precise synchronization of mold and machine processes to deliver performance and speed. Offering industry–leading cycle times and optimized energy efficiency, with no impact to product quality, the HyperSync™ system was designed to support Husky’s tooling focus in specialty closures, packaging and medical, with a wide variety of clamp sizes and specifications to meet customers’ needs.

Extended tooling lifeWith the Husky clamp base, centralized clamping force and our patented Reflex™ Platen, HyperSync™ provides unparal-leled capability to handle heavier, higher cavitation molds with ease, reducing mold wear and unscheduled down-time. The Reflex™ Platen ensures better tonnage utilization with wide tie–bar spacing, providing a more robust ma-chine with less mold sag and tipping and a larger processing window.

A high–performance packaging solu-tion, HyperSync™ has innovative features that enable the integration of a complete system for specialty closures, as well as thinwall packaging with Multi–Layer Technology. Husky’s proven Multi–Layer Technology provides you with more flexible material properties for enhanced design and performance for packaging applications. Our co–injection technol-ogy combines the benefits of a robust, high–performing and easy–to–maintain system with the capability to precisely dose the added layer. With an advanced melt delivery system and enhanced controls, our Multi–Layer Technology provides the ideal combination of prod-uct protection and package design, including innovative decorative capabilities.

Unlocking packaging possibilities with Multi–Layer Technology

Innovative system featuresBy providing an integrated solution, designed to work together in unison for the safe overlapping of mold and machine functions, we are able to make system–level enhancements that provide:

· Higher levels of productivity— faster cycle times and higher–capacity machines ensure speed–to–market for new products, while working with one supplier enables system–level synergies for increased performance

· Software enhancements to increase networking— Industry 4.0 connectivity with intelligent networking and improved collaboration between mold, machine, hot runner and controller

· Improved part quality— part optimization through develop- ments in part weight, part functions, and production processes allow for consistently high–quality parts

Improved innovative control and soft-ware features have been designed and developed to simplify operation and optimize the manufacturing process. Husky’s Polaris™ control enables sys-tem–level control from a single HMI, with intuitive screens that are easy to navigate. Quick access to critical process parameters and information enables faster start–ups and maximizes overall productivity. Working with a single–source supplier allows you to optimize your molding process and ensures maxi-mum productivity and efficiency.

eIMC™ in–mold closing technologyWith HyperSync™, we are able to offer our revolutionary eIMC™ in–mold clos-ing technology for specialty closures. This servo–driven technology allows for the safer overlapping of mold functions, providing precise, controlled closing of flip–top closures while still in the warm position. The speed of closing is carefully controlled, allowing for quick closing movements with precision; this ensures the fastest closing speed while maintaining the ideal force required and ensuring optimal part quality. The use of eIMC™ in–mold closing technology pro-vides up to 20% increase in productivity, with nearly two seconds saved per cycle depending on the application.

Optimized energy efficiencyIncreased electrification of the machine and mold functions provide greater con-trol, optimizing energy usage, improving response times and reducing operating costs with increased performance. With the increased electrification of the electric clamp lock, electric mold stroke, energy recovery system, and speed variable pump, the energy usage is optimized, ensuring that HyperSync™ is capable of high performance levels at lower energy costs without sacrificing part quality. A variety of other factors help contribute to the overall reduction in operating costs and improving energy efficiency, including:• Extended tool life —less mold wear and longer tooling life means that less tonnage is required• Lowest total part cost—faster cycle times with lower melt temperatures

and better part quality due to improved melt quality generates an up to 8% plasticizing energy reduction• Reduced cycle times—overlapping of mold and machine motions reduces cycle times and increases productivity

Electric Mold Stroke and Speed Variable PumpThe electric mold stroke, offered as a standard feature on the HyperSync™ system, is operated by a belt driven ball screw actuator that provides reduced energy consumption and a quieter operation. The ELMS replaces the clamp stroke hydraulic cylinder with an electri-cal actuator, increasing energy efficiency by eliminating the hydraulic circuit and power. The implementation of the ELMS also enables a new system feature called the regenerative clamp stroke (RCS). During the deceleration phase of any

Our mold and machine manufacturing facilities help customers bring products to market faster by providing manu-facturing flexibility and the capacity to handle projects of any size in a quick and timely manner. Each location is equipped with state–of–the–art technology and equipment enabling machines and tooling to be produced independently in all locations, with the same high level of quality.

clamp stroke, the ELMS motor is used as a generator, recycling the braking ener-gy back into the machine power grid, enabling energy recovery.

The speed variable pump (SVP) is a built–in power management system that provides hydraulic power on demand. The SVP replaces the continuously run-ning hydraulic pump with a servo pump for an on–demand operation. Consisting of a reduced number of components, the SVP makes the system more compact and generates high performance due to reduced inertia. Separate flow and pres-sure settings are allocated for the clamp and injection circuits and are specifically adjusted to the customer’s application needs. Combined, these enhancements deliver up to a 40% improvement in energy utilization over the previous generation system without sacrificing performance.

Global Service and SupportHusky is committed to providing unpar-alleled service and support. In addition to producing robust machines and high–performance systems, we also provide delivery and documentation, start–up service at the customer site, troubleshooting, advisory services and extensive training. Also available to our customers are our Altanium® tempera-ture controllers which come equipped with an intuitive touch–screen interface and provide two to 255 zones of control. Additionally, Shotscope™ NX process and productivity monitoring software allows molders to collect, manage and analyze production information in order to maximize productivity and reduce downtime.
