New Year’s Eve is a time to celebrate the end of the year and welcome what’s in store in the coming year. Anticipating and welcoming the New Year is a cherished Lithuanian tradition. At the stroke of midnight, between New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, Vilnius will celebrate with a festive fireworks show.

Attention! Please celebrate responsibly – do not bring fireworks to Cathedral Square or the Christmas trees. The use of pyrotechnic equipment in Vilnius is strictly prohibited!

The Christmas period ends with the Feast of the Epiphany (6 January), which commemorates the three kings (Gaspar, Melchior and Balthazar) who visited baby Jesus. The parade of the three kings’ effigies will wind its way through the city streets and end with a traditional performance that includes placing a crib at Cathedral Square.
