Project put on hold During 2012–14, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) introduced the I-43 Freeway Corridor Study to address future needs identified along I-43. WisDOT collaborated with the public in developing solutions for the corridor that spans from Silver Spring Drive in Milwaukee County to WIS 60 in Ozaukee County.
On December 1, 2014, the I-43 project was presented to a group of legislators and citizens (chaired by the governor) known as the Transportation Projects Commission (TPC). This group evaluates major highway programs and recommends which projects should be enumerated and advanced to final design and construction. The TPC concurred with the need for transportation improvements in this corridor and recommended the I-43 project for enumeration.
During the spring and summer months of 2015, the governor and legislature deliberated over the 2015–17 biennial budget. After much consideration, the I-43 project was not included in the biennial budget and will be placed on hold. Discussions regarding the future of this project are ongoing and the project team will provide any updates as necessary.
The I-43 project team is always available to answer questions or receive feedback about the corridor. For information, please contact Steve Hoff, Project Manager at (262) 548-6718 or [email protected].
