Mensaje de Padre Pergjini- Que el año pasado que volé desde el aeropuerto JFK a Santiago, República Dominicana, en el Caribe. Por un corto tiempo, dejé atrás el frío y amargo en Nueva York y llegué a República Dominicana dio la bienvenida por el cielo azul y temperaturas agradables de verano. Me gustaría decirte cómo es que fui allí, y lo que he encontrado en mis tres días de visita.
Yo no fui a un centro turístico de lujo para descansar, escapar del frío en Nueva York como algunos de los pájaros de la nieve podría hacer. Más bien, una familia fiel y generoso en nuestra parroquia me había invitado a su casa en Villa Trina, un pequeño pueblo en las afueras de la ciudad de Santiago, en las bellas montañas dominicanas verdes. Acepté con humildad y gratitud su invitación, y pasé un tiempo maravilloso con su familia.
Antes de venir a la parroquia de Santa Lucía, sabía unas pocas personas de República Dominicana y otros países de habla hispana. Me pareció que para ser personas maravillosas y todavía estoy en contacto con ellos. Pero ahora, en el St. Lucy, estoy tan contenta de conocer a muchas más personas de origen latinoamericano, y durante los últimos seis años de mi estancia aquí, me he convertido inspirado y alentado por tantas personas generosas y maravillosas de esta parte del mundo. Su profunda fe en Cristo es para ser admirado e imitado. Me siento conectado directamente a su vida y su alegría, y son sin duda conectado a la mía.
La familia dominicana que me invitó a República Dominicana, son miembros humildes, honestos y fieles de nuestra parroquia, con una maravillosa devoción y amor a Dios. Mientras escribo para describir mi visita a su casa, Recuerdo con alegría su acogedora hospitalidad y su profunda fe.
Tan pronto como llegamos a su casa, fui recibido por una veintena de personas, que eran miembros de su familia y otras personas de la parroquia, Nuestra Señora del Monte Carmel. Compartimos una deliciosa comida juntos. Fue verdaderamente preparado con amor y alegría. Después de la cena, nos dijo que el rosario juntos. Había una gran multitud en su magnífica sala de estar. La gente también se reunieron afuera en la terraza, que estaba rodeado por tantas plantas de hoja perenne que me sentí como si estuviera en un pequeño jardín botánico. Muchas de las personas estaban de rodillas con una profunda reverencia y devoción durante nuestros veinte minutos de oración. Podía sentir en su voz durante de los Ave María su confianza en la intercesión de la Santísima Virgen como recitamos los misterios dolorosos. Fue una experiencia muy conmovedora estar con la gente que nunca había conocido antes, en un lugar que nunca he estado antes, para comunicarse en un idioma que yo todavía estoy aprendiendo, y aún siento como en casa, abrazados por el amor y la poder del Santo Rosario. Sentí un momento que vive de la fe con Cristo y María rezando con estas personas sinceras y humildes.
El resto de mi corta estancia extendió la experiencia de fe profunda que encontré entre esta gente maravillosa, ya que fuimos a visitar una remota zona rural llamado "campo" en español. El párroco, un hombre joven y paciente, condujo su camioneta durante dos horas por carreteras muy bacheadas y difíciles. Podía conducir sólo cinco millas por hora o incluso menos. Durante el viaje, se detuvo varias veces recoger a los niños con sus padres a medida que caminaban en su camino a la Santa Misa. Tan pronto vieron la camioneta se sonrieron al sacerdote que los conocía a todos por su nombre. Finalmente llegamos a la iglesia y estaban listos para celebrar la Santa Misa.
Se podría pensar que el pequeño grupo de trein- ta personas fue aún mayor, ya que llenan la parte superior de esa hermosa montaña con alegre canción. Cantaron con todo su corazón, alma y mente, y me llenaron de alegría. También mostraron un evidente amor y reverencia por la Santa Eucaristía, que fue una experiencia conmovedora y poderosa.
Después de la Santa Misa, fuimos a visitar a dos niños que son atendidos por mi familia anfitriona. Los niños son huérfanos discapacitados. Fue muy emocionante ver a los niños como a nuestros feligreses entraron. Los niños, obviamente, ellos sabían, y comenzaron a llorar ya que eran tan feliz de ver a los que están tomando el cuidado de ellos. Con abrazos por todas partes, se sentía como un pequeño mar de amor, para ver el archivo adjunto que cada uno tenía para el otro, en un momento atemporal de pura alegría para los dos niños pequeños e inocentes que se encontraban tanto en necesidad de atención ordinaria y afecto.
Era en momentos como estos que llegué a conocer a mi maravillosa familia mejor. Cuando nos encontramos en presencia de verdadera virtud, la humildad y la generosidad de espíritu, es natural que crecemos para admirar gente como esta, y la posibilidad de la amistad crece también. Sí, lo fue durante los días de esta visita maravillosa que no sólo experimenté la belleza de su fe, pero empecé a conocerlos desde el corazón, dos corazones hermosos y humildes de Dios.
Esta fue mi primera experiencia en República Dominicana. Es un hermoso país de sol y el verde intenso de los árboles que cubría las montañas interminables de rodadura en la distancia. Para mí, estos momentos se convirtieron en signos de la luz y la vida de Cristo en medio de tantas personas amables y generosas. La profundidad de fe y de mi familia realmente me llegó al corazón. Esta experiencia también me ha llevado a conocer y apreciar aún más, mis viejos amigos y mis nuevos amigos de República Dominicana. Gracias a mis amigos por su muy generosa invitación! Que el espíritu cálido y acogedor de regreso República Dominicana conmigo, y que Nuestra Señora de Alta Gracia orar por nosotros y todos los que viven ahora o una vez vivió en esta maravillosa y hermosa tierra.

On February 15th, 2015, the world learned of the murder of twenty-one Coptic Christians at the hands of ISIS terrorists in Libya. At the time, our Holy Father, Pope Francis, referred to the witness of these brave Christians as “a testimony which cries out to be heard.” As members of the Archdiocese of New York we will take time to pause in prayer and to remember all those who face the stark reality of religious persecution in the Middle East and elsewhere. On Monday, February 15th, at 10 a.m. we will celebrate the Mass “For Persecuted Christians”. Holy Mass will be
followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. We invite all parishioners and friends to attend and join together to remember and pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ.

at the Grotto at 12:30 p.m. St. Pope John Paul II designated the 11th of February as World Day of the Sick, “a special time of prayer and sharing, of offering one’s suffering for the good of the Church and of reminding us to see in our sick brother and sister the face of Christ who, by suffering, dying, and rising, achieved the salvation of humankind”.

for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children
January 22nd, 2016 In all the Dioceses of the United States, January 22nd shall be observed as a particular day of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion.
Year of Mercy - Holy Doors Pilgrimage St. Lucy’s Bible Group, Divine Mercy Group and the Daughters of Mary invite you to do a pilgrimage to the Holy Doors at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Saturday, January 30th. All those, who, on pilgrimage, enter a Door of Mercy with the proper intention and fulfill the conditions can obtain a Jubilee Indulgence either for themselves or for the souls of their dearly departed. The conditions are: 1. Baptized Catholics in a state of grace, having the interior disposition of detachment from sin; 2. Go to Confession within 20 days after performing the indulgenced work; 3. Pray for the intentions of the Holy Father within 20 days after performing the indulgenced work. We will all attend the 9 a.m. Saturday mass celebration at St. Lucy’s parish; after the Mass we will sit for 15 minutes of prayer and reflection for the intentions of the Holy Father; and then meet later on at 12 noon sharp at the # 2 train station on Allerton Avenue and White Plains Road (in front of Dunkin Donuts.) All are welcome to attend. Please bring your own Metrocard and wear comfortable walking shoes.

Deacon Radcliffe is a Permanent Deacon for the Archdiocese of New York and has served as an Administrative Chaplain, (Retired), for the New York City Department of Correction. His assignments included Rikers Island, detention centers, in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan Detention Center, MDC, also known as "The Tombs" He is a trained Substance Abuse/Addictions counselor. He will be speaking on his book “Applying Alcoholics Anonymous Principles to the Disease of Racism.” All men of the parish are invited to attend.
