• 3. TEXT-2-LEARN
• 4. CASE STUDY
• 5. SUGGESTIONS
• 6. CONCLUSION
1. Introduction
Yuping Liu; L J Shrum (2003) Defined interactivity as:
“The degree to which two or more communication parties can act on each other, on the communication medium, and on the messages and the degree to which such influences are synchronized”
2. Classroom Feedback System• The Traditional EnvironmentThe lectures which are delivered by using traditional methods (blackboard, slides, paper)
• The Untraditional EnvironmentThere has been developed a technological mechanism that can efficiently enables and enhances the interaction, is called Classroom Feedback System.
Important aspect for CFS implementation• Training and Awareness
• Budget Problem
• Laptops and PDAs
• Mobile as substitute to Laptops and PDAs
3. The TXT-2-LRN System
Classroom Interaction
4. Case Study• Victoria University
• TXT-2-LRN system was tested on 1200 students
• Survey was made at the end
Results of the Survey• 90% of the students perceived that the ability to send the
instructor SMSs during class was useful.
• The instructor had a positive experience.
• The number of comments and questions received via the system were about 15 per class.
• 33.6% gave cost as the main inhibiting factor
• Participation in m-quizzes was higher than use of the open channel.
Top Ranked Impacts
5. Suggestions for improvement
Infrared in basic Mobiles
Bluetooth in Mobiles
Subsidies SMS packages• Cheap SMS on specific numbers (of instructors) during
specified hours, specified by the university to the Service providers.
Conclusion
Positive results can be achieved by encouraging students to bring their mobile phones out in the open and to use them to contribute to the class, and to their own learning – that is, by joining them instead of trying to beat them.
