It is also an opportune time for Thai businesses to expand their manufacturing bases, take advantage of ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) and to find more trading and investment opportunities with emerging trade partners. At the same time, they need to be able to cope with challenges such as fiercer competition among the ASEAN Member States and trade partners outside the region. Hence, they need to improve the quality of the goods and services as there are a lot of competitors. And they also need to overcome non-tariff barriers (NTBs) when they export goods and services to countries with high import conditions. Thai businesses ought to increase worker productivity as well by seeking new knowledge, experience and technology while enhancing human resource development. Further, Thai workforce has to improve their communication

The establishment of the Strategic Partnership between Thailand and Viet Narn in 201 3 during the official visit to Thailand of H.E. Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, serves as the guiding principles for the enhancement of all areas of cooperation between the two countries, namely (1) political cooperation (2) defence and security cooperation (3) economic cooperation (4) social, cultural, people-to-people cooperation and other areas of mutual Interests, and (5) reqional and

I This is evident during the recent official visit to Thailand of H.E. Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung, Prime Minister of Viet Narn to Thailand, to co-chair the Third Thailand - Viet Narn Joint Cabinet Retreat on 23 July 201 5, when the two countries have taken concrete steps for further cooperation. We have signed five documents which are Joint Statement on the Third Viet Narn - Thailand Joint Cabinet Retreat, MOU on labour cooperation, Agreement on Employment of Workers, Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of Friendship between Kon Turn Province, Viet Nam and Ubon Ratchathani Province, Thailand and Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of Friendship between Long An Province, Viet Narn and Trat Province, Thailand. Furthermore, the two Prime Ministers have committed to promote tourism and linkages between the two countries and agreed to increase two-way trade to 20 billion USD by 2020.

In the context of the disputes of the South China Sea, both countries agreed to resolve disputes by peaceful means and emphasized the implementation of the Declaration on Conduct of the Parties in the South China Sea (DOC) and encouraged efforts to achieve the Code of Conduct (COC). Thailand as the coordinator for ASEAN - China relations has been earnest in consulting with all partners in enhancing cooperation with China and ensuring peace and stability in South China Sea. It is conspicuous that our Strategic Partnership have been beneficial not only bilaterally but also favourable to the region. To this end, Thailand is looking forward to building on the coordinator role between ASEAN and the EU from Viet Nam. Lastly, I believe that both Viet Narn and Thailand will continue to be active members of ASEAN and our cooperation will, eventually, benefit the entire community
