Part l: Coaching Scenarios Coaching Scenario #1 First of all, I would listen to the parent, and wait for an opening to say, "l hear your concern, and l'm more than willing to talk to you in private. ls there a time tomorrow that you and your daughter would be available to talk?" I would hope that the parent would suggest a time, and it would work for the both of us and her daughter. I would want her daughter there, because the parent needs to hear from the daughter that it was her decision to quit the team. The parent may say that she does not want her daughter there, but I will say that I have a policy that I will not talk to a parent without their daughter. I would also say something about how I believe to get to the underlying issue of her quitting the team we need to talk to her. While at the meeting, I would ask the daughter if she would like still the warm-up. I would ask the daughter not the mother, because the daughter is the one who I would except to wear it. I would say that by her wearing the warm-up she is still representing our team and needs to acts like she is still a part of our team even though she quit. This means she would still have to abide by the rules and regulations in our handbook, and if I hear or see anything I will have to get the warm-up away just like any other girl our program. I would give her the warm-up, because I bought it for her. The mother is probably most concerned about the warm-up because they are struggling with money and paying for her daughter's clothes. Coaching Scenario #2 I would want the player to know that l'm very happy that the player was comfortable to tell me. But then I would ask what the player would like me do with this? I believe that everyone is created to be loved no more what they choice to do with or in their life. I still see this player the same way that I do before. I would ask the player if she feels comfortable being in the locker room with the other players? Or if she feels her feel needing other accommodations? I would not require the player to use other locker room or do anything that she would not like to do. I would also let her know that no other players need to know unless she would want them too. But would she feel comfortable to tell the other coaching staff. I think it is important for the other coaching staff to know what is going on, so they do not ask questions in front of the other players. I would strongly suggest that she needs to tell them, but it is all up to her' I would offer to help the player communicate this information to the coaching staff. Also I would just remind her that this information is her's and I would not tell others. I am more than happy being there for her along the way, and if she ever needs anyone to talk to or needs help telling others.

Part l: Coaching Scenarios

Coaching Scenario #1

First of all, I would listen to the parent, and wait for an opening to say, "l hear your concern, and l'mmore than willing to talk to you in private. ls there a time tomorrow that you and your daughter wouldbe available to talk?"

I would hope that the parent would suggest a time, and it would work for the both of us and her

daughter. I would want her daughter there, because the parent needs to hear from the daughter that itwas her decision to quit the team. The parent may say that she does not want her daughter there, but I

will say that I have a policy that I will not talk to a parent without their daughter. I would also say

something about how I believe to get to the underlying issue of her quitting the team we need to talk toher.

While at the meeting, I would ask the daughter if she would like still the warm-up. I would ask thedaughter not the mother, because the daughter is the one who I would except to wear it. I would say

that by her wearing the warm-up she is still representing our team and needs to acts like she is still a

part of our team even though she quit. This means she would still have to abide by the rules and

regulations in our handbook, and if I hear or see anything I will have to get the warm-up away just like

any other girl our program. I would give her the warm-up, because I bought it for her. The mother is

probably most concerned about the warm-up because they are struggling with money and paying forher daughter's clothes.

Coaching Scenario #2

I would want the player to know that l'm very happy that the player was comfortable to tell me. But

then I would ask what the player would like me do with this? I believe that everyone is created to be

loved no more what they choice to do with or in their life. I still see this player the same way that I do

before.

I would ask the player if she feels comfortable being in the locker room with the other players? Or if she

feels her feel needing other accommodations? I would not require the player to use other locker roomor do anything that she would not like to do. I would also let her know that no other players need toknow unless she would want them too. But would she feel comfortable to tell the other coaching staff. I

think it is important for the other coaching staff to know what is going on, so they do not ask questions

in front of the other players. I would strongly suggest that she needs to tell them, but it is all up to her' I

would offer to help the player communicate this information to the coaching staff.

Also I would just remind her that this information is her's and I would not tell others. I am more thanhappy being there for her along the way, and if she ever needs anyone to talk to or needs help tellingothers.

Part ll: Offensive and Defensive Systems

Varsity Offensive System :

The offensive system I would use is the 5-1 Offensive system. I believe that 5-1 offensivesystem is the best for a varsity team, because the setter is the same person. Volleyball is allabout being comfortable with each other and knowing where each other responsibilities at alltimes. By having one setter for each six rotations, everyone knows who will set each and everyball except the poor pass or dig. Also when the setter is the same person the hitters and passersbecome very comfortable where the setter is going to be. The passers will know exactly whereto pass the ball for the setter to make a perfect set. Having the same setter for all six rotationsalso benefits the hitter. The hitter will know how high and far from the net the set will be foreach play. By knowing exactly where the set will be the hitter is able to set herself upappropriately to have a beautiful and successful hit.

The serve receive system that I would use for my high school varsity program is two -player serve-receive. For two-player serve-receive to work, the two players have to have anintense desire to get each and every ball. They understand their own abilities, and the otherpassers tendencies. Having few passers has benefits, such as fewer communication errors. Withtwo-player serve-receive, the court will basically be split in half; one passer will be responsiblefor one side and the other will have the other. This will decrease the amount of confusion ofwho gets which ball. lmagine yourself as one of the two passers, and you know if you say minethe other person is right behind you. Or if you hear mine, you will be covering. Another benefitis how comfortable and confident the passers will become. After doing this system enough witheach other, the two players will become more and more comfortable and confident with oneanother abilities. There is just a simplicity to the serve receive when there is only two playersresponsible for one ball.

Part ll: Offensive and Defensive Systems

Defensive System/Blocking Schemes:

We will be using a double block as our blocking scheme for our varsity team. The doubleblock is critical, because they are our first line of defense. These two players need to have goodtiming, good verticals, and strong upper body strength to keep the ball from passing their block. With a double block, there is two pair of hands to stop the hit compared to one, whichincreases the odds of having a successful block and to win the rally. These blockers will have abetter chance of blocking cross court or line depending on where the hitters hit to more. Hitterstypically are stronger at one attack over another, so the blockers will be able to adjust and stopthe hitter. Also by having a double block the momentum of a game can drastically change withonly one block. And momentum in the game of volleyball is huge factor to who wins the gameand match.

But just in case the block fails, we need to have a well-practiced defensive system.Having a double block will allow us to have one person in front of the ten foot line to covershort for tips or sharp cross shots and three players back to cover deep and cross shots fromthe hitter going around or over the block. For my varsity defensive system, we will run a readdefensive system. ln read defensive, the middle back will be reading the hitter and judgingwhere they are going to hit to. The other three players will have specific positions to be independing on where the attacker is coming from, which allows everyone to know exactly whatthey are responsibility to cover. ln this defensive system the players are more flexible. Theplayers will be able to assess their opponents' skills and make adjustments before and duringthe game. Having a flexible defensive system we will be able to assess the opponents' skills andadjust. I think this is very important to have in a higher skilled game, because our team will bemore prepared for anything that comes our way.
