When- The first camera obscura was invented in

1015-1021.- Next was the portable camera obscura,

invented in the 1660’s.- The first camera that was small enough

and portable enough to be practical for society was invented in 1685.

- The first permanent photograph was made in 1826.

Common Need the Invention Has Met

- The camera has met the need of being able to take a picture of a real object or person, without having to draw it.

- The Camera captures images.

Process That Led to Invention Being Made

The first camera was made in the early 1000’s (camera obscura). The camera obscura is an instrument consisting of a darkened chamber or box, into which light is admitted through a double convex lens, forming an image of external objects on a surface of paper or glass placed at the focus of the lens.

The camera obscura evolved so it was portable. Later, the first camera that was small enough and practical enough for photography was made but it could not produce its images on a piece of paper. This meant the image could not be made permanent.

Later the first permanent photograph was made and so the images could now be used to record history.

Now cameras have evolved so far that they are now digital and so they can be plugged into a computer and download the images onto the computer and save them.

Cameras have been put into other inventions to make them better. There are now cameras on almost every cell phone and on some portable music players.

Effects On Environment

- The early camera’s had film that used chemicals to produce the film onto paper to make a photograph. These chemicals were harmful to the environment.

Effects On Society

- Things that happen can now be recorded with photographs instead of just writing it down.

- Camera’s can also be used for secuirity purposes like at a traffic light. If you run through a red light it will take a picture of your license plate so they can trace you and give you a ticket.

What Makes It Good

- The camera is a good invention because it works.

- It is also good because it helps us in many different ways. Examples of ways it helps us are:

1. It takes photos that we can use to remember things that we did.

2. It can be used for security.

3. The photographs can be used to record history.
