Jesus entered into the assembly of a synagogue on a particular Sabbath Day. When He entered the assembly, Luke records how He took the book of the Prophet Isaiah, and read, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord” (Luke 4:18-19). Jesus picked a passage of Scripture which most certainly was prophetic in its identification of Him. At the same time, He picked a passage of Scripture which spoke to the various needs of people and their souls. Some people are excluded from certain benefits and involvement because of their economic status. Their poverty or limited resources may appear to them to be so limiting, they might believe they will never advance or be able to lay hold of anything worthwhile in their lives. Jesus wanted to dispel that myth. The poor were not only invited with the gospel, their heart of want described the desire for the kingdom of heaven (Luke 6:20). Hearts are burdened and broken by the cruelty of the world and by the hardships encountered through many turns. Jesus would heal these hearts of hurt. So many are held captive, captive by their fear, their behaviors, their beliefs, and even by their distorted realities. Others cannot see clearly the hope before them, for their focus is blurred by their problems. Jesus promised So many problems, it would seem the remedy for each would be as varied as the problems themselves. To us, it may seem that way. To Jesus, His answer and remedy would come in the identifying words of the prophecy He read and fulfilled, “He has anointed Me” (Luke 4:18). Jesus, with His message of redemption and rescue, would with one identity, one focus, and one fulfillment, answer the needs of man, once and for all. For all people, for all generations, for all who would believe, they would have their needs met, and still can, if the gospel is believed and obeyed. We will meet people each day, some may struggle with poverty; others may deal with problems created through their selfish choices. The answer is found in the gospel message, a message which will change the life and mind of every person (Romans 1:16). Through the gift of the gospel, we have our greatest needs met, and the blessings of a life here and hereafter because of Jesus. Were it not for the timeless and enduring word (I Peter 1:23-25), we would not know of this promise. I hope you know, through the word, we learn of the eternal life gifted to us by our Lord and Savior, and like the word, we too shall endure forever through Jesus Christ. to free them, lead them, and give them a fuller vision of today’s abundant life.

“I Hope You Know” I Surrender All

“If our greatest need had been information, God would

have sent us an educator. If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist. If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist. If our greatest need had been pleasure, God would have sent us an entertainer. But our greatest need was forgiveness, so God sent us a Savior” – God Sent Us A Savior; Author unknown.

Unable to give credit to the author, we give credit to the sentiment conveyed. With so many needs, and such varied needs, can they all be met? Jesus entered into the assembly of a synagogue on a particular Sabbath Day. When He entered the assembly, Luke records how He took the book of the Prophet Isaiah, and read, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord” (Luke 4:18-19).

I Surrender All… Weekly Challenge:

A GREAT NIGHT AT CAMP MERIBAH!

Derek & Rachel hosted the Junior High Fireside this past Sunday night. We had around 20 Junior

High together for some fun and a time of devotion centered on our theme of “Surrender

All.” Remember to decide if you are Hiding,

Humble, or Hollering as a Christian! Thanks to the Newsoms and to Griffin Elkins, Jake Martin, and

Colby Shelton for helping too! THANKS, AS ALWAYS to Matthew & Cissy

Dotson and Derek & Rachel Newsom for hosting the monthly Bible Studies. Such a special time to

grow and dig deeper in God’s Word. The second

Monday nights of the month from 6:00-7:00 for Junior & Senior High, don’t miss them!

MARCH & APRIL CALENDARS ARE AVAILABLE! Firesides, Lighthouses, Prayer

Breakfasts, Bible Studies, Father & Daughter and

Lad & Dad Weekends, Sparks & Intermediate Egg Hunt & Cookout, and the Junior High Retreat are

some of the highlights over the next few months. Be sure to pick one up or get one online at our

webpage, Twitter, or Facebook pages. THE LIGHTHOUSE EXPANSION IS SLOWLY

TAKING SHAPE… We are thankful for the

donations given on Sunday to help as we are trying to do all the renovations separate from the

budget. We are about 1/4 of the way toward that goal. Also, beside monetary donations, we

are needing old youth group or camp t-shirts

from years past. Once we have all the renovations completed, we plan to have an open

house. This will give everyone the opportunity to see the area we have created to continue to grow both spiritually and in number.

WE LEARN OF A BLIND BEGGER NAMED BARTIMAEUS in

Mark 10. When this man learned that Jesus of Nazereth was nearby, he cried out for him. Others began to silence him and tell

him to be quiet. In response, Bartimaeus cried out even more! It was then that Jesus told his disciples to bring the man to Him. As

a result of Bartimaeus’ faith, his sight was restored. How often do we quietly live our lives as Christians in the same manner as

that of Bartimaeus? We go though life choosing to blend in and

not be noticed. Or we may even go with the crowd to not cause a scene, no matter how wrong it may be. Quit listening to the

crowd that tells you to be quiet for the sake of Christ. Quit letting the devil tell you the lie that you can be a strong Christian by

yourself. Cry out for Jesus to give you the faith to be led, to

follow His teachings to be healed of your spiritual sickness. After that, do what Mark 10:52 tells us Bartimaeus did upon being

healed, “And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.” follow His path, -Craig
