Many families turned up to meet 2013 staff and visit classrooms and there was a vibrant feel about the school. It was also great to see lots of people spend time together at the BBQ afterwards. I certainly enjoyed meeting people and discussing the start of the school year. Thank you to our generous parent volunteers for setting up and cooking the BBQ on the evening. Dear Parents and Carers,

Meet-the-Staff Evening Success

I would like to thank all of the families who attended our ‘Meet-the-Staff’ Evening and BBQ last week. Thank you to our wonderful school staff for their efforts on the evening and for their continued dedication to their roles. I wish everyone all the best for the remainder of the term. Change of date for Parents & Friends Meeting

Unfortunately I am required to be at an Archdiocesan and Catholic Education

Office 3 day Retreat and Meeting next week from Wednesday to Friday. This

means that we have had to change the first Parents and Friends meeting for the

year to TUESDAY 26 February at 6.30pm. Please come along to meet other

parents, hear about school initiatives and discuss ways you can contribute to

the school community in 2013. I will be at the meeting and look forward to

seeing you there.

A.C.T. Education Minister to Visit St Anthony’s

I am delighted to announce that Mrs Joy Burch, A.C.T. Minister for Education

and Training, will visit St Anthony’s Primary School this Friday 22 February.

Minister Burch will arrive at school in time to join us for Friday morning

assembly at 9.00am and she will assist in presenting the student awards for this

week. I will then have some Year 6 student leaders lead Minister Burch on a

tour around our school. You are most welcome to join us for assembly on

Friday.

I wish you all the best for the week. Together we are ‘Building God’s Kingdom’.

A Message from the Religious Education Coordinator

Our Current Value:Respect We are encouraged to speak to others with respect.

I have no right, by anything I do or say, to demean a human being in his own eyes.

What matters is not what I think of him; it is what he thinks of himself. To

undermine a man's self-respect is a sin.

The Rule of the Week:Walk on hard surfaces

Lent

Last Wednesday was Ash Wednesday. It marks

the beginning of Lent. The children participated

in a Liturgy where they were marked with the

sign of the cross on their foreheads with ashes.

The ashes show our desire to turn away from

doing wrong to follow the way Jesus taught us

to live in the Gospel. Many students may make a

promise to keep over Lent to be more like Jesus.

This is helping them prepare for Easter.

Ask your child if they did this at school and

encourage them to keep their promise.

Project Compassion

Project Compassion runs throughout Lent. The money raised during this time goes to

Caritas Australia which is the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development.

Each class has a collection box. The children are encouraged to donate money to this

worthy cause. Just $5 could buy a chicken for Matuba Children’s Centre to raise and

sell to provide food, medical supplies and school uniforms for children in Mozambique.

Peer Support

This Friday the whole school commences a Peer Support Program. This program is led

by our Year 6 leaders and groups are formed combining children from all years. On

Friday our Year 6 leaders will run a fun and interactive session on the value of

Respect.

Sacramental Programmes Enrolment forms for the Sacramental Programmes will go out this

week.

Confirmation for Year 6 will be in Term 2 Saturday 22nd and

Sunday 23rd June

Reconciliation for Year 2 will be in Term 4 on 28th November

Eucharist for Year 3 will be in Term 3 on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th

September
