Use of Thickeners in Fruit Flavoured Spreads and Fruit Flavoured Fillings (A215)
The National Food Authority received an application (A215) on 30 March 1994, from Kraft Foods Limited, to amend the Food Standards Code. The applicant seeks to vary Standard N3 - Fruit Butters, Fruit Flavoured Spreads and Fruit Flavoured Fillings, to extend the use of thickeners in fruit flavoured spreads and fruit flavoured fillings. The applicant requested that provision for the use of thickeners, as specified in Group VI of Standard A10 - Modifying Agents, be extended to permit their use to unlimited levels in fruit flavoured spreads and fruit flavoured fillings. The applicant has not requested variation to the maximum permitted levels of other modifying agents specified in the various groups set out in Standard A10.
The Authority has made a preliminary assessment, accepted the application and will make a full assessment. To assist this process, the Authority invites submissions on matters relevant to the application.
