Welcome to our last sale for 2010, and once again it is a stunner! Thanks as always to the numerous vendors for providing such an interesting and saleable selection. Those that again were too slow off the mark and missed this sale have already been allocated spaces in the next sale where possible. Please note: the cut off dates for the next sale will most likely be before Christmas, due to the very high demand for inclusions. The next auction, Sale 73, will be held in March 2011, and I will again feature our usual amazing selection of rare Coins and Banknotes.

One of the key highlights in this sale is the “Finest Known” 19221/2 Over-date Threepence, a truly rare and significant offering that has never been publicly sold before. It is rare that a new example of such a rare coin comes onto the market to challenge what is the established hierarchy, so on the rare occasions this happens it is a significant event. Suffice to say that at it’s estimate, this coin is a serious bargain, and will be sure to attract ap-propriate interest (see the story at the back for more details on this coin). Another highlight is the 1799 Holey Dollar. Not only is this coin in the top 5% of Holey Dollars grade wise, with lovely strong and clear countermarks, but it also has one of the best pedigrees I have ever seen. Seriously, go and read it all in full under Lot 311, and be impressed, as I certainly was.

The Taylor Patterns are a series that have really come into their own re-cently, and here we present two rare Copper issues, a Sixpence and a Shilling. This is an issue with a great historical back story that has been steadily rising in price as recognition for them grows. These lots then make ideal starting points for someone wanting to get into this series, as well as great standalone investment pieces. Other coins of note include a Rare Type 7 Kookaburra Penny 1920. This is the type coin for anyone wanting to make a date set (an ideal way to go in this now quite expensive series), as the Type 8, 9 and 10 are rarely offered, with only a handful of each in exist-ence. Finally, we again have on offer an 1887S Gold 2 Pound piece. This example (whilst not quite as good as the one sold in Sale 70), is offered at around half of that coins price. This represents great buying for a coin of this rarity as this coin is the second finest of only four known, and this coin has also not been sighted in the market for over 25 years. The coin selection also includes part two of the “One Tonne” collection, which has everything from bulk and mint issues to Gem UNC Pre Decimal and Key Date coins in it, such as a choice 1925 Penny. Along with this is some superior grade Pre Decimal Proof coins, and a selection of Numismatic and Bullion Gold, GB, World, Proclamation and Ancient coins, and much more.

Banknotes of note include a note that is seldom offered on the market in any grade. The ES&A Emergency 1 Pound Superscribed 1914 is a special issue produced during WW I as Emergency currency, and is the only pre Federation issue included in the Pre Decimal series. This note has great eye appeal, and is one of the finest of this rare issue known. One of the most attractive notes I have seen is also on offer in this sale. The 10 Pound design is always one that has been admired, and the notes of the “square” series have lovely colour, especially when they are in the superb grade as this note is. Large issue notes in high grade are a rare thing, and are always

in strong demand from those looking to upgrade, or for a premium “Type” note. Given this note catalogues at $265,000, at the current estimate or less it would prove keen buying, given its attractiveness and rarity. There are also several George V notes in UNC which I would recommend looking at closely, as these issues just aren’t turning up in high grade any more, and are seldom offered now, along with some bargain Specimen notes, and some rare Pre Federation issues.

Other Points Of Interest- The biggest recent news is that the proposed changes to Superannuation in the “Cooper Report” that appeared to be set to impact on our market, have been rescinded. The Labor Party, in a recent media release stated “A re-elected Gillard Labor Government will ensure that from 1 July 2011 collectables and personal use assets owned by self managed superannuation funds (SMSFs) must be stored according to new rules to prevent them from giving rise to a personal benefit. SMSFs can continue to invest in personal use and collectable assets provided they are held according to these new legislative standards that will ensure the assets do not give rise to a personal benefit and are held for the purposes of providing retirement benefits. Existing assets that cannot meet these rules must be sold within five years.” This is great news for our industry, and means that those who use their Superfund’s to invest in coins and banknotes can continue to do so.

We know also that the Liberal position on Super in the past has always been very positive, and they have again reinforced this position to us, so this is great news all around. Thanks must go to the ANDA Committee for its unrelenting activity in pursuing this to its happy conclusion. Special thanks too must go to Mr. Rob Jackman for all his hard work and his devotion to this cause, which will have the end result of bettering our industry, to the benefit of every person both collector and dealer, involved in it. Every sign now points to this being a great time to buy, with prices sure to increase in many areas in the immediate future as we finally shrug off the malaise of recent economic events. Important Auction Information:

Viewing & Auction: Sofitel Gold Coast (81 Surf Parade Broad-beach) - Sorrento Room (Level 3), on the day of Sale, Sunday 5th September 2010 from 12pm - 3pm. The Auction will then commence at 3pm. We estimate that this sale will take approxi-mately 3 hours to complete. There will also be limited view-ing for interstate clients only on Friday 3rd September, strictly by appointment, in our offices from 9-5pm. The Oasis Shop-ping Centre (next door to the Sofitel Hotel, right in the heart of Broadbeach) has plenty of Car Parking for those wishing to attend the Auction. Viewing in person is highly recommended, especially on many of the lots without photographs and on the unreserved end lots.

Buyers Premium: A 16.5% total Buyers Premium will be added on to the knock-down price of all lots. Additional credit card charges will be waived with any payments made with either Visa or MasterCard.

Postal Bidders: Will be advised of successful bids, and items will be dispatched only upon receipt of payment in full. Unsuc-cessful postal bidders will be notified, and will receive an auc-tion prices realised. All postal bidders please note bids must be received no later than Saturday midday 4th of September 2010 please, although Friday is preferable. Please keep in mind that the earliest received bid will always get preference in the case of their being 2 or more identical high bids being registered.

Postage and Insurance: We have simplified all postage and packaging charges now. All postage will be charged at $5 per 500 grams for registered mail, or at our cost price. Smaller lots under $200 will be sent normal mail unless otherwise speci-fied, and at no charge. Items over $200 will not be insured at all unless it is requested. Insurance is charged at $1 per $100 upon request. This fee schedule is in line with all major auction houses, although we have reduced our rates charged by 50% to help recover some of the very large insurance costs we now have to bear.

Please read the following “Terms of Sale” carefully. These terms are applicable to al floor bidders and mail bidders in this auction. Your submission of bids in this Auction

constitutes your acceptance of these “Terms of Sale”.

1. This is a public auction sale, NOT an approval sale. At the fall of the gavel or auctioneer’s call of “Sold”, all sales are final. By bidding in this auction, the bidder person-ally guarantees all payments. The auctioneer has final discretion in all matters. In case of dispute, the lot(s) in question may be resold. Lots will be sold in their numeri-cal sequence unless the auctioneer directs otherwise.

2. Payments must be made in full and lots must be re-moved the day of the sale or by 5p.m. the next day. Ab-solutely No lots will be released until payment in full has been made. Payment may be made in Cash, by Personal Cheques (with proper identification, at their discretion of International Auction Galleries), or by Bank Transfer or Major Credit Cards as stipulated. Successful postal bid-ders will be notified by mail via an auction receipt.

3. A 16.5% buyer’s premium will be added to the knock down price of each lot (includes GST). All Credit Card payments by Amex will incur a 3% surcharge.

4. Unless otherwise specifically stated by the auctioneer, each new bid shall be raised above the previous bid by such amount as is determined by the auctioneer during the course of the auction, and no party shall be allowed to retract his or her bid after acknowledgment by the auctioneer.

5. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse any bid and to withdraw any goods from sale at any time, or to disclose any reserves or vendor information, without having to state any reason.

6. At the fall of the hammer, (if required by the Auc-tioneer), the purchaser shall give his or her full name and address, and pay 25% of the purchase price deposit. In default, the lot(s) purchased may, at the auctioneer’s discretion, immediately be reoffered and resold. All lots sold will remain the property of the owner/vendor until cleared payment is made in full. Only then will the title of ownership of the lots pass to the purchaser, irrespective of any terms or deferment of payment due.

7. Except as otherwise provided by state of federal law, no condition or warranty is given or implied by the auc-tioneer in respect of any lot offered. As all lots are given for inspection prior to the commencement of the sale, it shall be presumed that the goods have been inspected and that the purchaser accepts the goods bought with all faults, if any, as described. All lots are guaranteed genu-ine, except where so described; however if a lot sold isfound to be a deliberate fake or forgery, the purchas-er may return it, and receive upon confirmation of the same, a full refund.

8. The auctioneer shall not be liable for any description or mis-description given to the goods for sale. Any state-

ment as to the quantity of goods is approximate only and is as represented to the auctioneer. The auctioneer gives no warranty that thequantities as stated are correct.

9. If any purchaser fails to comply with any of these con-ditions or if any cheque given on account of the purchase price of any goods is dishonored, any monies which the purchaser has paid to the auctioneer on account of the purchase shall be forfeited absolutely to the vendor. The vendor or the auctioneer is at liberty to re-sell the lot in any manner and upon such terms and conditions as they may deem proper and to sue the purchaser for dam-ages. All losses and expenses incurred by the vendor or the auctioneer and all damages which the vendor or the auctioneer may sustain resulting from any re-sale, shall be recovered from the purchaser as liquidated damages. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing the auc-tioneer in the event of such resale is entitled to:

a) The amount of any commission lost as a result of the purchaser not proceeding with the purchaseb) The cost of advertising and other general expenses in respect to any such re-sale.c) Any difference in price from the initial sale to the price received in the re sale of the items(s). A service charge of 2% per month (Or part there-of) will be added to all overdue accounts (30 days after the date of Auction is then deemed to be in the overdue period for unpaid accounts).

10. Estimates are given only as a guide, and not given as starting points for bidding: lots may sell for a price greater than or less than these estimates. Bidding will start at an increment above the lowest postal bid re-ceived, or at the Auctioneers sole discretion. All prices are in Australian Dollars.

11. No lots purchased by a floor bidder may be returned, including those lots where the bidder is acting as agent for another, or to mail bidders who have examined the lot(s). These are no returns or refunds except for reason of lack of authenticity or genuine mistake. Late remittance con-stitutes just cause for revocation of all return privileges.

In the event that a bidder is acting as an agent for Another, and that agency has not been disclosed to the auctioneer in writing 24 hours before the Sale date, then the bidder is deemed by the auction-eer to be the final buyer in all respects, and is ful-ly responsible for all payments, fees and charges.

In no event may any lot(s) be returned after (21) days from the date of the auction. All sales are then final.

INTERNATIONAL Auction Galleriesnext auction - Sale No.72 - to be held onSeptember the 5th 2010, has some specialhighlights, but it is a brand new find thathas been stirring up significant interest!This new find was apparently discov-

ered in an old English collection that wassold in 1980, which remained in the UKuntil an ardent local collector got wind ofit. Being an extremely interested and avidcollector of overdates and varieties, hedecided to fly over to see the coin for him-self, and ended up purchasing it severalyears ago. Rumours have abounded forseveral years about a superior unrecordedOverdate Threepence, but had no sub-stance until this coin was brought to light.IAG originally sold what was believed

to be the finest known 1922/1 Overdatein private hands (the Ex C Jaggard coin)in January 2002, where it had resurfacedafter being unseen for many years. Thatcoin was again sold by IAG inMarch 2009,this time realising the current recordprice of $108,345. Originally graded asaEF/gEF, this previously finest knowncoin is a significant step down in gradefrom this new find,which has been gradedas aUNC. Of particular note in this newcoin is that it is the only known example tohave both the 7th and 8th pearls in the bandvisible.Apparently, not even the examplein the Museum of Victoria’s collection hasthis, so this may well be the single finestknown 1922/1 Overdate in existence.“This is the most exciting coin I have
