PW617F1-E engine granted Transport Canada type certification to power new Embraer Phenom 100 EV

Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) has reported that its PW617F1-E engine received type certi-fication from Transport Canada. The modified PW617F1-E turbofan engine offers more thrust with superior hot-and-high performance for the entry-level jet market segment. The PW617F1-E engine powers the new Embraer entry-level Phe-nom 100 EV, launched during the EAA AirVenture Fly-In and Convention in July 2016. An evolution of Embraer’s successful Phenom 100 business jet, the Phenom 100 EV, is poised to deliver even greater performance and operational capability while preserving its low operating and mainte-nance costs. It is expected to enter the market in the first half of 2017. Specially designed for

point-to-point travel in a new generation of entry-level jets, the PW600 innovative engine family offers outstanding performance. It is built with half the parts of a conventional turbofan, making it easy and efficient to maintain. It incor-porates the latest technologies to deliver highly fuel-efficient power with low carbon emissions. It also comes equipped with dual-channel full-authority digital engine control (FADEC), which translates into reduced pilot workload and engine monitoring with longer time on wing. P&WC has delivered close to 2,300 PW600 tur-bofans worldwide which have accumulated nearly 3 million flight hours. Out of those, some 700 engines have been delivered to Embraer to power their successful Phenom 100 jet.

by combining the strengths of Inmarsat’s satellite connectivity with a powerful ground network operated by our partner Deutsche Telekom. We look forward to working with Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia and Vueling on the rollout”.

The first shorthaul aircraft equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity – a British Airways A321- will be in service next summer. Aer Lingus, Iberia and Vueling aircraft will follow later in 2017.

By 2019, 90% of IAG airlines’ fleets will be fitted with high quality connectivity.

Several other airlines in Europe have also been exploring the possibil-ity of on-board Wi-Fi and have been waiting on the right technology to facilitate a low cost entry point so that it is affordable for air travellers.

The problem has been that,no system was available which allowed for trans-border Wi-Fi. It’s much more straightforward for airlines offer-ing flights with Wi-Fi in the United States, given they don’t cross inter-national airspace or borders and don’t need to switch Wi-Fi provider. A European standard Wi-Fi system would certainly help, but until that happens it seems this is the best option.

GE tests additive manufactured demon-strator engine for Advanced Turboprop

GE Aviation completed testing a 35% additive manufactured demonstrator engine to validate 12 additive parts in its Advanced Turboprop (ATP) engine, which will power the all-new Cessna Denali single-engine turboprop aircraft. Additive components reduce the ATP’s weight by 5% while contributing a 1% improvement in specific fuel consumption (SFC). An addi-tive CT7 technology demonstrator engine, dubbed the “a-CT7,” was designed, built and tested in 18 months, reducing more than 900 conventionally manufactured parts to 16 ad-ditive manufactured parts. The ATP engine architecture is derived from the in-service CT7 engine, allowing for additive part commonal-ity between the two engine programs. The ATP will include more printed components than any production engine in aviation history with 35% of the turboprop’s parts built via additive manufacturing. 855 conventionally manufac-tured parts will be reduced to 12 additive parts on the ATP, including: sumps, bearing housings, frames, exhaust cases, combustor liners, heat exchangers and stationary flowpath compo-nents. In the coming months, GE will run a sec-ond a-CT7 test with even more additive parts to expand the technology to additional structures and assemblies. The additive components for a-CT7 and ATP tests are built at GE Aviation’sAdditive Development Center (ADC) in Cincin-nati, Ohio. The a-CT7 tests are conducted at GEAviation’s facility in Lynn, Massachusetts. GEexpects to run its first full ATP engine test bythe end of 2017 in Europe.

Airbus Corporate Jets wins new ACJ320neo order

Airbus Corporate Jets has won a new commitment for an ACJ320neo from an undisclosed cus-tomer. The deal includes turnkey cabin outfitting – a first for the new ACJneo Family. Airbus’ ACJ319neo and ACJ320neo jets feature new-generation engines, sharklets and a collection of other improvements to deliver most of the benefits of an all-new design. These include better range and a 16% fuel saving. Airbus Corporate Jets has combined its knowledge of customer preferences with a fresh approach to cabin design, creating a new cabin concept for its ACJ-320neo family. Called Melody, it features flowing lines inspired by the curves of nature, such as hilly horizons, rolling rivers and desert dunes. These flowing lines are represented in both the main pathway through the cabin and the curved walls of zones within it. The new concept also focuses on providing a more attractive environment that is both quieter and better adapted to providing sound and vision in a “home cinema” setting.

ATR foresees demand for 300 new turbo-props in China over the next two decades

According to the July 2016 ATR market forecast, demand for new turboprops in China is expected to reach 300 units by 2035. ATR also anticipates that regional network development is the next big opportunity in China, with some 800 new

regional routes expected to be created by turbo-props over the next 20 years. Of the 300 deliver-ies of new turboprops forecast within the next 20 years, 270 would be in the 61-80-seat seg-ment and 30 in the 40-60-seat segment. There is tremendous potential to introduce modern turboprops for short haul route development in China. As of today, regional aircraft only rep-resent some 2.5% of the total fleet operating in China, compared to 25% worldwide. Nearly 80% of the turboprops expected for delivery in China will be used to create new routes. This is particularly expected in less densely populated cities and regions, which have less developed road infrastructure, limitations to developing high speed train networks, and lower traffic de-mand. These regions could benefit economically from the development of air connectivity with efficient, reliable, affordable and right-sized so-lutions that ATR already provides to some 200 operators worldwide. The development of an improved air transportation network of airports serving all regions of the country is a clear aim of the national government. The Chinese govern-ment forecasts the development of some 70 new airports within the next 5 years, a substantial ad-
