Select charging mode

For charging various batteries at differentambient temperatures you can choose between three different charging modes.Select the most efficient and suitable charging mode for charging the battery. In comparison with conventional batterycharging stations, this appliance has a spe-cial function for reusing an empty batteryor rechargeable battery. You can rechargean empty battery/rechargeable battery.Safe charging is ensured by means of aprotection function against incorrect con-nection and short circuiting. Due to theinstalled electronics, the charging stationdoes not begin operation directly afterconnecting the battery, but only starts after a charging mode has been selected.

IB_KH3157_E4952_UK.qxd 27.04.2007 9:49 Uhr Seite 8

This avoids sparking, which often occurswhen connecting. Furthermore, thisdevice is also controlled by an internalMCU (Micro-Computer-Unit), whichmakes it faster, more powerful and morereliable.

Reset/deleting settingsAfter connection to the power supply, the appliance automatically returns toits basic setting and remains in STANDBYmode

Switching over between modes 1, 2 and 3• Press the selection button MODE

repeatedly to display the chargingmodes in the following order: ReadySTANDBY, MODE1 , MODE2 ,MODE3 and start the next cycle.

If you press the selector button ,charging mode automatically switchesover to the next mode and begins opera-tion in that mode. However, if a batteryis not disconnected from the chargingstation after a full charge, the applianceremains in trickle-charge mode, even ifthe user switches over to another mode. This protects the battery from beingdamaged.

MODE

Mode 1 (14.4 V / 0.8 A)This mode is suitable for charging smallbatteries with a capacity below 14 Ah.

• Press the selection button MODE ,to select mode 1. After doing so, thecorresponding LED display

lights up. If you do not activate an-other process afterwards, the electro-nic system will automatically start thecharging process together with theLED display at (with a currentof) 0.8 A ± 10 %. If the procedure runs without anyproblems, the LED display

remains on during the entire chargingprocess, until the battery is fully charged at 14.4 V / ± 0.25 V. When thebattery is fully charged, LEDdisplay lights up and LEDdisplay goes out. The floatingcurrent is now available for the bat-tery.

Mode 2 (14.4 V / 3.6 A )This mode is mainly used for chargingbatteries with a large capacity exceeding14 Ah under normal conditions.

• Press the selection button MODE ,to activate mode 2. If you do not activate another process afterwards, the electronic system, together with

LED display starts the chargingprocess at (with a current of) 3.6 A ±10 % (3.6 A). If the procedure runs without anyproblems, the LED display

remains on during the entire chargingprocess, until the battery is fullycharged at 14.4 V / ± 0.25 V. Whenthe battery is fully charged, LEDdisplay lights up and LEDdisplay goes out. The floatingcurrent is now available for the bat-tery.

Mode 3 (14.7 V / 3.6 A )This mode is used for charging batterieswith a greater capacity than 14 Ah incold conditions or for several AGM bat-teries with more than 14 Ah.

• Press the selection button MODE ,to activate mode 3. As soon as youhave selected the suitable chargingmode, the corresponding LED display

lights up immeditely. If you do not take any further action, theelectronic system starts the chargingprocess with a set delay. In this modethe charging current is identical tothat of "Mode 2".

If the procedure runs without anyproblems, the LED display

lights up, the electronic stystem isactive and remains in this conditionuntil the battery is charged to approx.14.7 V. As soon as this is reached, thecharging station switches over totrickle-charging function. Now LEDdisplay goes out and LEDdisplay lights up to indicate the current status.

Regenerating / charging empty (used, overcharged) batteriesIf the charging station is connected to abattery and the charging process starts it automatically recognises the batteryvoltage. It changes to pulse chargingmode if the voltage is in the range of 7.5 V ± 0.5 to 10.5 V ± 0.5 V.This pulse charging process is continueduntil the battery voltage has increasedto 10.5 V ± 0.5 V. As soon as this condi-tion is reached, the charging stationchanges over to the previously selectednormal charging mode. Now the battery can be charged quicklyand safely. Most empty batteries can becharged and used again using this procedure.
