POLL: What is the Main Reason you are here?
• I am interested in the technicalities of upgrading from TM1 to Planning Analytics
• I am interested in the licensing implications of upgrading from TM1 to Planning Analytics
• I am interested in the great new features of Planning Analytics including PAW and PAx
• I am interested in moving from on-Premise TM1 to the Cloud
• I had nothing better to do today!
3 Objectives
Objective 1: Clarify the Situation
Objective 2: Reduce Risk
Objective 3: Seize the Day … and Opportunities
About today’s content …
FACT: TM1 is notgoing away
• TM1 Server is still called TM1 server inside Planning Analytics
• Still with Perspectives, Architect, TM1 Web etc. (for now)
• Cognos Express, the mid-market version of TM1, is not going away either
• It upgrades to Planning Analytics Express
FACT: TM1 is not going away
ALSO: There is no additional license fee:
- To Upgrade TM1 (Perspectives, Architect, TM1 Web …) as-is to Planning
Analytics Local (“PA Local”)
- To Deploy the new Planning Analytics for Excel (PAx) add-in to all your users
FACT: On-Premises TM1 is not going away
• IBM’s stated strategy for PA is to support BOTH Cloud and On-Premises• Release schedule for On-Premise (PA Local) will slightly lag
behind IBM Cloud (Softlayer)• For practical reasons
• On-Premises license CAN be used to put TM1 on the Public Cloud (AWS, Microsoft Azure etc)
FACT: TM1 10.2.2 support ENDS on Sept 30, 2019
• IBM will not fix unsupported versions, including when:• a security flaw is exposed
• a Windows/Excel/other-third-party software update breaks TM1
• a software issue is found
• If you are in a regulated industry, you may be required to be on supported software
Note: TM1 10.2.0 support ends SOONER on Sept 30, 2018

Basic TM1 & PA Local System ArchitectureStarting point
User connects to TM1 Server via Perspectives, Architect or TM1 Web
PA Local System ArchitectureAdding in Planning Analytics for Excel (PAx)
Steps:• Provision hardware
• Install Docker (Enterprise)
• Install PAW Server software
PA Local System ArchitectureAdding in Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW)
PAW Licensing:• Need to purchase PAW
Upgrade to roll out to all users (more later)
PA (Cloud) System ArchitectureBasics
Considerations:• Everyone gets PAx and PAW
• ODBC Connectivity requires IBM Secure Gateway
• End-users ONLY have PAxoption with Excel• Admins & Developers still
have Architect access
• IBM provisions everything in the Cloud ☺
IBM Cloud
Minimal Upgrade – SMALL PRINT
IBM Cloud Perspectives/ Architect
If you go to the IBM Cloud, your end users will no longer have access to Architect or Perspectives:
Their options will be PAx (for Excel), PAW and TM1 Web
IBM Cloud ODBC On IBM Cloud, ODBC connectivity is supported using IBM Secure Gateway, a piece of software that needs to be installed on your network, and configured locally
IBM Secure Gateway also helpful with Public or Private Cloud scenarios
PA Local PAW To deploy PAx and/or PAW as part of PA Local you will need to provision another piece of hardware to run the PAW server, and you will need to plan to install the PAW server.
PA Local PVU licensing If you are on PA Local and PVU based licensing – the ILMT requirement does not go away.
ILMT is a piece of FREE monitoring software that IBM requires you to install and configure if you are using a VM for your TM1 server
Minimal Upgrade – SMALL PRINT
PA Local Docker The PAW server runs on a container technology called Docker. Although PA Local comes with an open source version of Docker, QueBIT strongly recommends that you purchase Enterprise Docker (your IT department may already have it, as it is becoming pervasive)You will also need to install Docker.
PA Local PAW Upgrade There will be an additional software license fee to add PAW to PA Local for ALL your users (not just Modelers).
If you are on the PM Advanced license no one can get PAW without paying an additional license fee
PA Local Hardware Will you be upgrading on existing or current hardware? If hardware is old, consider upgrading; also makes cutover easierIf getting new hardware check PVU entitlements
QueBIT Solutions - FrameWORQ
• If you upgrade to PA Local (On-premises), recent releases of ReportWORQ, WebWORQand ControlWORQ are 100% compatible• Including WebWORQ 5, though we encourage
you to upgrade to WebWORQ 16 to get full 64 bit, multi-browser support, and other enhancements
• Including Public Cloud
• If you upgrade to PA on IBM Cloud• ReportWORQ and ControlWORQ support are
coming in 2018
Other integrated IBM or Third Party Solutions
• CDM = Certent Disclosure Management
• Cognos Analytics • Formerly Cognos Business Intelligence (BI)
• Cognos Command Center• [Comes with Cloud]
• ODBC data sources• Microsoft SQL Server
• Oracle
• DB2, etc.
Opportunities
What’s New in Planning Analytics?
TM1 ServerImprovements
Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW)Next-generation web interface for analysis, input, reporting, development, and administration all in one place
Planning Analytics for Excel (PAx)
Improved TM1 WebThe same TM1 Web we know and love with a user interface makeover and performance improvements
Hierarchies for Planning Analytics
New and improved Excel Add-in provides seamless integration for ad-hoc analysis, input, and report authoring
Virtualized dimensions that enable boundless analytics and more efficient cube design
Many Reasons to Upgrade
• Free-form canvas design expands self-service analytics capabilities
• Enables more effective business storytelling and deeper insights
• Unifies content such as TM1Web reports, cube explorations, visualizations, videos, and images
• Opportunity to expand the user base: Sales, Operations, Executives
• Integrated development and administration online
• iPad friendly
PAW PAX
• WAN optimized eliminates the need for Citrix, realize cost savings and network simplification
• User-friendly design fosters a gentle learning curve for end users
• Reports built using Perspectives are fully compatible in PAX
• Intuitive explorations (in-spreadsheet browser) allow you to easily slice & dice live TM1 data in Excel
• Support for Hierarchies
TM1 Web
• Improved user interface and experience with a more modern look and feel
• Significant performance improvements
• Core functionality of TM1 Web remains the same, little to no learning curve to transition to the new TM1 Web
• Improved support for Excel visualizations
• Now iPad friendly
TM1 Server
• Improved server performance and multi-threading improvements
• Continuous software delivery methodology from IBM means more frequent enhancements and fixes
• Updates to the REST API strengthen system integration capabilities
• Data encryption at rest capable
• Sandbox comparison• Support for Office 2016
Hierarchies
• Unleash the power of in-memory analytics with virtualized dimensions
• Do more with less: a single dimension like Product can have multiple hierarchies (e.g. Brand, Color, Size)
• Enable slice & dice analysis on attributes
• More easily analyze and snapshot changes in dimension structures over time (e.g. company re-organizations or regulatory reporting requirements)
Planning Analytics for Excel
Planning Analytics Hierarchies
Hierarchies can easily answer questions such as: What are my total sales by Product and Brand?
Steps:
1. Promote the Brand attribute on the Product dimension to a hierarchy
2. Brand is now a hierarchy (virtual dimension) and accessible in PAW Explorations or PAx Explorations and Quick Reports
• Brand is a hierarchy on the rows, related to the Product dimension on the columns
• The Sales cube has 7 dimensions, but there are 8 selections in the Exploration
• Hierarchies reduce reliance on custom Excel reports, separate reporting cubes, and/or cluttered dimensions with many alternate reporting consolidations

Stop … and Think
Upgrading TM1 is a bit like remodeling your kitchen
•What PAIN POINTS have you been living with?• Is now a good time to
address them?• Do any of the new features
HELP you address them?
•Do you just want to do the bare minimum?
Is it time for a complete makeover? ☺
Or something in between?
TM1 Remodeling Tips
• Form follows Function
• Invest in Architecting and Planning
• Stay focused on Goal
• Don’t live with something dysfunctional just because remodeling is a hassle
• Remember humans are part of the system!
