A Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is Key to providing an Integrated Environment for On Demand Solutions

• Packaging business functions from new and existing applications in a simple and standardized way creates services that are available for use

• Services are used to help get the right information to the right people at the right time

• Services can be reused and combined to deploy composite applications to address new opportunities

• Increasing use of “Web” services based on open standards complements existing services technology

IMS applications and data are enabled as Services

Services are the Building Blocks

zAAP – z/Series Application Assist Processor-- Lowering the cost of running Java applications

• Specialized processing unit for z890 and z990 processors– Requires z/OS 1.6

• Provides a highly strategic z/OS Java execution environment– Increases system productivity by reducing the

demands on general purpose processors, making capacity available for reallocation to other workloads.

– Allows Java workloads to run at a lower total cost of ownership

– Java workloads are transparently executed on the zAAP processors

• No requirement to change applications

IMS Dynamic Resource Definition (DRD) RequirementsIncreased availability

Allows system to change dynamically for MODBLKS resources via a commandDATABASE, APPLCTN, TRANSACT, RTCODECan modify one, some or all resources at once

No need to cold start system to introduce new MODBLKS resourcesSystem is quiesced for only those resources to be changed

Adding a new application does not force all applications to quiesceChanging or deleting an existing application causes the specified application to quiesce in the system but does not affect any others

Allows transactions to be defined dynamically via a user exit

Increased productivity New User InterfacesEliminates system definition and generation using Assembler macrosReduces number of required user decision points Reduces the need for Assembler skills to define an IMS system

Additional Requirements• ACBLIB Member Online Change (OLC)

– Allows you to add or change one or more members of the ACBLIB without the need to perform an online change on the entire library.

– Makes online change for ACBLIB more usable and improves availability. – Only affected resources by member level online change are quiesced allowing

concurrent activity

• Program Serialization across the Sysplex– Expands serial program usage to all IMS systems – Requires CSL and IMS Resource Structure

• Transaction Level Statistics– Provides a new optional log record to reflect each transaction – Requires CSL for commands

• • •
