So, what is scanning?
• Scanning is a reading strategy used when we want to find SPECIFIC INFORMATION quickly.
• In Scanning, we have a question in our mind and we read a text (passage) only to find the answer (ignoring unrelated information)
Scanning: How?
• Analyze the ORGANIZATION of the content before scanning (e.g. alphabetically, numbers, shapes, causes-effects, categories, procedures)
• Scan for a SPECIFIC word, phrase, name, date or place name
• When you find the sentence that has the information you seek, READ quickly the text around it just to make sure.
