Trekking with Travels will help you cover more ground and see more things up close than just about anything else. Each day of a trek Will include 5-7 hours of walking for 5-7 days with total distance of tour close to 50-80 km (35-50 miles).

All back-country meals are included. Depending on your choice, you may see ancient farmsteads, black sands and Reindeer herds, the world’s largest lava flows in human history (from a single eruption in 1783), or go on a classic trek through Iceland’s southern highlands.

Our tours are tours with a mixture of hiking and driving. You travel with a vehicle to a base camp location (e.g. Kingdom of Volcanoes and Glaciers, Multi-Activity Öræfi) or between loca-tions (Complete Highlands).

Every day will use the vehicle to explore the region we are staying in, or travelling through, and each day you will enjoy a total of 3-7 of hiking. Participants will only need to carry light daypacks and sometimes food for the day. E.g.: Kingdom of Volcanoes and Glaciers, The Treasure Trail, The Complete Highlands, Multi-Activity Öræfi, The Beautiful South, The Magnificent North. Hiking during the tour: Expect 2 – 7 hours of active hiking carrying a light day pack. Sometimes the hikes are divided into multiple shorter hikes.

Most of the hiking is paths or on relatively smooth terrain but can be rougher when travelling in the mountainous interior of Iceland.

Accommodation is at a hotel (Kingdom of Volcanos and Gla-ciers), in a guest house (Multi-Activity Öræfi), or in mountain huts (Complete Highlands)

Our tours are classed into levels of technical and physical effort.

Easy: 1Accessible to all people in good health. Moderate: 2

Accessible to all those in good health, who are doing some sport regularly, and who are used to all-terrain walks. 4-6 hours walk per day, without much carrying

Challenging: 3Suites those that are physically active and have some back-ground in basic traveling in mountainous terrain with a back-pack. 6-7 hrs walks per day.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON OUR TREKKING TOURS

A general level of fitness is required. Participants should be able to do light hiking for 3 hours without much difficulties. No prior experience is required. Follow information on equipment lists.

THE COMPLETE HIGHLANDSThe Icelandic Highlands hold countless treasures, so many in fact that even a lifetime is not long enough to discover them all.

However on this tour our intention is to uncover as many as possible in as short a period as 12 days!

To achieve this we will travel many of Iceland’smost famous mountain tracks like Kjölur, Sprengisandur and Fjallabak as well as the rough track of Gæsavötn, just north of the great Vatna-jökull glacier.

In between we will use our legs to explore different areas like the mystique beauty of the volcano Askja, the unreal landscape of Þórsmörk and the magic of lake Mývatn.

The colorful geothermal mountains of Kerlingar-fjöll and Landmannalaugar, the mysterious black deserts or Vatnajökull’s snowy peaks are also ours to discover.

This unique landscape is certain to leave a mark on the traveler that in his turn leaves only his footprint in the regions traveled.

Note: Please note that accommodation / camping fees before and after the tour are not included in base price, but can be added.

Meeting Point: Please note that participants are picked up at accommodation in Reykjavík from 8:30-9:00 in the morning of the tour and are dropped off at accommodation in Reykjavík at the end of the tour.

MULTI ACTIVITY ADVENTUREA tour full of activity and adventures! This Multi-Ac-tivity tour gives you a chance to get to know the best of Iceland and enjoy different activities at the same time.

On the tour we will go mountain biking through a geothermal area, riverjetting on Hvítá river, sea kayaking on the Atlantic ocean, horse riding, visit Sólheimajökull for a walk on a glacier and finally hike up to Iceland‘s newest volcanic craters that were formed in the 2010 eruption of Eyjafjalla-jökull.

The highlights of the Golden Circle and the Blue Lagoon will not be missed nor will the valley of Þórsmörk, an oasis between the glaciers.

For the first part of the tour we will be staying at a farm in the south, but in Þórsmörk we will get into the highland feeling while staying in a hut.

This is a tour that mixes a discovery of Iceland with fun activities and adventure.

THE MAGNIFICENT NORTHIceland is unique in so many respects. The land-scape is ever-changing and different from one part of the island to the other. On this discovery round trip of Iceland (composed of two 6 day segments you can take separately or together) you will get to see many of the highlights of this wondrous island.

On this second part of this Iceland tour the magnif-icent north is where you are headed. Spectacular high mountains are a distinguishing feature of the east where the tour starts. The Lake Mývatn area is a real treasure surrounded by geologi-cal features; extraordinary lava formations and geothermal wonders as well as being an oasis for migrating birds.

The north is also the home of the impressive Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall and the Ásbyrgi canyon. We drive to the Eyjafjörður area and visit Akueyri the capital of the north and the fishing town of Siglufjörður, filled with history, before flying back to Reykjavík.

The evenings and nights are spent at luxurious or quaint little countryside hotels making this tour a unique and comfortable experience.

KINGDOM OF VOLCANOES & GLACIERSThis is an outstanding trip to one of Iceland’s most attractive areas, including the famous Geysir and Gullfoss waterfall, the Skaftafell part of Vatnajökull National Park,the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and the famous Laki volcano.**

On this tour you will be hiking through stunning volcanic sceneries with breathtaking panoramic views over glaciers and spectacular mountain peaks. Whether it is the glacier lagoon and its amazing icebergs, the incredible volcanic land-scapes of the Laki area or Skaftafell that impress-es you the most, you can be certain to have an outstanding adventure. And maybe, if weather conditions permit we might enjoy the dramatic northern lights or the phenomenal midnight sun decorating Vatnajökull icecap.
