INTRODUCTION

i. Goal of application of ICT in Legal Profession• To Provide the legal profession, judicial fraternity with up to

date computerized technology that renders speedy justice with better legal outputs through a range of ICT services.

ii. ICT Service Catalogue – Is a database or structured document with information about all live ICT Services, including those available for deployment and is available to users so as to support the application of ICT in the delivery of Justice.

Management of ICT in the Judiciary

1. Strategic Management (Top level planning and approvals of ICT implementations)

• ICT Technology Committee/ Law Reporting Committee: Overall

responsibility of developing, implementing and reviewing the ICT Strategy,

membership:-

Justices/Judges, Chief Registrar, Secretary to the Judiciary, All Registrars,

D/Regs , All Administrative Heads, C/M’s of major Magistrates Courts

• Secretary to the Judiciary: Top-level provision of approvals and funding for

all ICT.

• Registrar of Planning & Development: Top-Level planning and

coordination of the ICT Donor supported projects (DANIDA, JLOS, etc.).

2. Operational Mgt: Is by the PITO, SITO, Programmer and other SADs - 6 -

The Need for CASE INFORMATION

1. Efficient Management, Budgeting and Resource Allocation: Statistics aid management in planning, decision making and resource allocation.

2. An aid to Monitoring, Control and Evaluation: By providing information about performance and the extent of deviations from planned levels of performance.

3. Research and scholarly purposes: For the provision of a framework for research on operations of the Judiciary-ULII.

4. Judiciary Physical & Financial Performance;5. Justification of performance for Donor Financing 6. Address Public Inquiries.

1. Court Stations which generate the information First –line consumers planning for case disposal, justification of increase in operational

funds, performance monitoring, reporting to higher levels2. Regional Circuits
