symposium ConneCtedeverydayWe live in a world where digital data, material objects and social practices are increasingly connected and interdependent. What challenges do we face when designing for this new ecology of materials, artefacts and interactions?

Four international speakers will address this question from a rich set of perspectives, from ‘Ubiquitous computing’ to ‘the Internet of Things’. In the afternoon, Elisa Giaccardi will give her inaugural lecture on ‘Connected Everyday’ in the TU Delft Auditorium.

ide phd-day 2014The day’s theme is the different values of research: scientific (what will we learn), enginee-ring (how will we use it), and societal (why will we benefit). Participants can enjoy a choice of hands-on workshops, provocative panels, and an inspiring speaker to end the day.

The morning programme is for IDE PhD candidates only; during the afternoon programme, IDE PhD candidates, their super- visory teams and everyone else involved in research at IDE are welcome.

symposium Comfort in transitTravel is changing: more people travel; passengers do more - they use tablets, smart phones and laptops - and are connected. Travellers are also looking for sustainable ways of travel and more variation in interiors. This will continue to change and knowledge on comfort and design will be needed to create great travel experiences and support travel-lers in performing other tasks. At the symposium, speakers will introduce the latest on travel comfort and design and demon-strate innovative products and environments. In the afternoon Peter Vink will hold his inaugural lecture on ‘Comfort in transit’.

summer thoughts Just before the summer holidays, all IDE employees are invited to our ‘Summer Thoughts’ day. We will mix content with pleasure in order to meet colleagues and get a better understanding of each other’s work at the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering.

This 5th ‘Summer Thoughts’ day is itself an anniversary, in addition the faculty is celebra-ting its own anniversary, so to end the day, everyone will be invited to a special celebratory dinner!
