We promote innovation through the effective creation of new products. We integrate both design and engineering skills in the creation process, exploring synergies, reducing the time necessary to achieve the final product. We hold know how and ability to design and produce advanced composite components, following technological evolution and matching the challenges of our customers. Our customer is the organization (company or institution, private or public) who are seeking for the same goals of our mission: creativity, commitment and out-of-the-box solutions.

The accumulated experience is reflected in the ability to develop design processes and engineering focused on these materials. The composites field is under an accelerated evolution process. We want to follow this progress with our customers.
IDEIA.M is also interested in research, resorting to internal processes or through collaborations with external entities.

Besides the use of regular materials, IDEIA.M has a very particular specialization in the field of composite materials (fibrous reinforcements in polymer matrix).
We are a multidisciplinary team of designers and engineers. During the creative process, IDEIA.M engineers introduce into the process their inputs in order to accomplish the requirements of the manufacturing process.

Explore the space. Look around you. Think "outside the box." Why? How? For what? Look for inspiration, meets stimuli. Observation is more than a glance. It seeks for new frontiers beyond the visual ones and find new ways to write 'evolution'.
To discover fundamentals and to understand requirements. It allows a successful process, optimizing time and resources. Process of defining the concept leads to a descriptive memory of product specifications and should include physical and sensorial experiences in words, images, aromas or flavors. Aren’t there five senses?
More than just drawing, design is to predict the future and make it happen... Idea starts with simple lines of a pencil. Then, all the drawings come to life with digital drawings and renderings. The prototypes help the development team to understand the reality of its creations. Finally, it is important to know if everything is possible within the parameters of the concept.
The IDEIA.M engineering uses the most advanced materials, like composites, and technologies. The competencies are design, analytical calculation, numerical simulation, technical design, analysis and selection of manufacturing methods and project in agreement with product certification standards.

To preview the product usability and behavior. To improve the shape, get information and analyze the details. To perform approximate models, scaled or full-size, of the future products. Prototyping is very important to have a closer interaction in the conception and design phase. We use digital and manual techniques, selecting the most suitable solution for each case.
Product appearance may include visual elements that complement the shape and function, aligned with the commercial objectives. It may require add-ons that fit and enhance the experience. Additionally, product communication should be synchronized with the conceptual principles previously defined.
After considering all aspects of the product development process the new product will be evaluated by the final judge. The consumer and the market. It is essential to ensure that the quality is above standard. For the product to be in compliance with the requirements of the market and consumers, tests and trials are prepared to evaluate the accuracy of the product.
Manufacturing is the moment for which we are all waiting for. However, we always have to pay attention... And once they hit the end... The end is a new beginning!

IDEIA.M was involved in the design and product development of novel ultralight aircraft. We started this project from scratch, designing and engineering all the components. The wish list with the major innovative aspects was defined in collaboration with
the customer. Then, we combined design challenge such as wing morphing, retractible propellers, retractible landing gear, accessible seats, and engineering requirements such as weight limits, speed and glide ratio.
The challenge
To create this aircraft it was necessary to dive into the light aircraft market. Hence, the first stage comprised the study the players already established, exploring the market trends, studying the products, visiting trade fairs and gathering all the information about future competitors. The wishlist previously defined conducted us throughout the product development process. Carbon fibre reinforced epoxy was widely used to achieve the pre-defined requirements. IDEIA.M was able to apply all three areas of their activity, joining the design team

The device, which was assembled to a sequential injection system, was designed in collaboration with
researchers from the University of Porto (Faculty of Pharmacy) for the automation of extraction protocols for sample preparation prior to the analysis by liquid
chromatography
The process relied on the customized design of the device, by using computer aided design, digital manufacturing and high precision machining tools. This fact resulted in a customized configuration of the channels with specific angles and
orientations, according to the requirements of the researchers. Another important issue was the selection of the material due to the use of both organic and aqueous solvents during the extraction process.

The solution needs to achieve two main goals and a compromise: on one hand it was important to have a high resistance to acid, basis and organic solvents, and, on the other hand, it should be possible to perform a visual inspection of the engraved channels to verify the cleanliness
of the device. The material should also be durable and have the appropriate mechanical resistance for manufacturing and daily use in operations such as screwing the tubes and handling bead suspensions. The solution adopted was polyetherimide.

Mobility New ways for a bicycle
Mobility is one of the most important issues of our times. We need faster ways to move, in a cheap,
efficient, flexible and personal way. Furthermore, and despite all the recent evolutions, riding a bike is still a
need and a pleasure. And new improvements are always appearing!
A partnership between IDEIA.M and the Faculty of Engineering of University of Oporto (FEUP) is focused in the design of a new way of bike ride, reducing the physical effort needed. A FEUP project reached a new way of riding a bike and the system was patented by the University.
The first proof of concept was satisfactory, but there were still some design aspects that have to be improved. In this stage of the project IDEIA.M was invited to assume the project and add value to the invention, by redesigning shape, usability and ergonomy.
LineBIKE patent
The appearance of the first bike sharing systems brought us a new and interesting solution for individual urban transport. However, several problems appeared, driving the development of new generations of these systems. IDEIA.M is also studying some aspects of this mobility solution. We are redesigning the experience from the user point of view. The visual impact of the system and its
integration in the urban landscape are also important issues. Thus, the design of bikes, docks and kiosks assume a key role not only in the usability of the system but also on its sustainability, by contributing with eventual profit by advertising revenues. Finally, we are also considering the urban impact of the system, including cycle lanes and other improvements in the user’s experience.

Urban Elements For the city landscape
A Tutifruta is a brand of ‘healthy’ points of sale, through the sale of 100% natural juices, teas and
waters as well as sliced fruit, yogurts, cereals and jelly. These are temporary points of sale and should be
installed in places for outdoor sports and leisure, like beaches, parks and historical centres.
The goal was to build a resistant and durable module, to be operational all over the year exposed to all kind of weather conditions. This module should accommodate two worker. To this end, a the area and volume
of the structure had been optimized. The external layer of the module was used for marketing purposes, with the keywords ”natural fruit”.
The brief
The module was designed to have an elegant look. A perfect square in the front allowed a bigger surface to include the brand wordmark and to have a lower panel and a big door made of wood to communicate the nature and the
traditional aspect of seaside kiosks. All the rest of the box was made with a very resistant white fibreglass/polyurethane sandwich. In the side and rear panels were applied the images of fruit and natural juice to complete the communication.

AVA is a brand new name in the musical instruments industry. With a new approach, using composite
materials as carbon fibre reinforced polymers, AVA Guitars is pushing up the limits and contributing for
musicians experience and success
Wood is a natural composite material, because of their celulose fibres in a resin matrix. The principle for carbon fiber reinforced polymers is the same. But with advantages: weight, temperature and humidity resistance, acoustic custom configuration and tuning stability. The
technological part of the equation lives very well with the design, allowing to create elegant, ergonomic and beautiful guitars. IDEIA.M is the birthplace of AVA guitars concerning to design, engineering and construction.

Robot shield Enclosing technology
This is an autonomous surveillance robot with several detection equipament as well as different kind of
cameras and image recognition technologies. A consortium of private companies and research
institutes developed the cutting edge technology. IDEIA.M designed and built the exterior body.
Developed by electrotechnical engineers, this is a multi-level platform, either in technology , equipment and layout. In the interior are installed batteries, processor units and a lot of electronic boards. In the surface there are proximity sensors, infra-
red sensors, HD, thermal and 360º cameras, and a sonar in the top. The challenge was to include all this in a shape that adjust itself to the inside content and look friendly, discrete and elegant.
