High Per Capita Oil Consumption Saudi Arabia consumes 99.61 barrels per day for every 1000 citizens (IndexMundi), which make it the 11th largest per capita oil consumer in the world
Limited recyclingThe government and the society of Saudi Arabia recently recognize the importance of recycling for the future of the country. The recycling industry still in the introduction stage and there are a lot to be done in order to advance it.
Some Action in place to reduce environmental problems
• The Saudi Arabian Government are actively addressing these the problem of recycling.
• In March 2014, Omar Al-Jasser “the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME)” said that all companies are giving five years to adjust to new air, water, and noise pollution standards. (TheGuardian.com)
A new law is requiring all car’s dealer to attach a card to indicate the amount of fuel consumption on
that car.
Solar Energy • The government has heavy research and
development in the solar system.
• For the Saudis, the Solar system is a way to diversify the economy and alternative source of income.
• “Saudi Arabia has a lot of sun and acreage, we intend to harness more and more of our domestic energy need from solar power.” (Ali Al-Naimi, The Saudi Oil Minister.
Suggested Actions to improve
sustainable development • Large investments to build waste recycling plants
• Government must funds universities and research centers to research nuclear, geothermal and wind power.
• Encouragement for citizen to to participate in the recycling projects by educating the society about the importance of recycling.
Conclusion The lifestyle of the inhabitants of my city does not reflect behavior that is in line with the concept of
sustainable development. However, people realize the problem, and they are on the right path to solve
the problem. Sustainable development is a mandatory need to develop our lives while keeping
our earth a clean place for future generations.
