Venezuela: Pros and Cons

Has the world’s largest known oil reserves.

It is the fifth oil exporting country.

A series of mismanagements has led to an uncertain

situation:

Corruption

Sustaining a populist regimen

Consequences

Poverty

Hunger

Insecurity

Shortage

High Rates of Teenage Pregnancy

Due to the consequences listed before:

Venezuela is the country with the highest rate of teenage

pregnancy in South America.

Politics developed to handle the situation have nonetheless

made it worse.

Government established a social campaign called “The

great mission for sons/daughters of Venezuela”, which

provides an economic aid for teenage mothers.

To a society of a poor level of education the equation

goes like this: more babies = more money.

Consequences on Teen Mothers

Statistics point out that teenage moms are less likely

than other women to attend or complete college.

Single moms have the highest poverty rates.

Consequences on the baby include risk of school

failure, poverty, mental and physical health

problems.

Solutions

Key to restructure a country is through education.

A realistic first step in my demand to the Secretary

General of the United Nations is to create a

campaign that aims to decreases teenage

pregnancy and promotes the legalization of

abortion. By educating our society about

reproduction and contraceptive methods.

Solutions

Educate about the real consequences of banning

abortion.

Step by Step

Make sure the government has a special

department that provides for health and education

services.

Involve parents, teenage mothers -that can share

their experience- and young adults.

Create campaigns targeting high risk groups,

mainly in Venezuelan slums known as “barrios”.

Encourage a non-judgmental approach to this

situation through Media.

Expected Results

Create knowledge in our society so people would

become -in time- more open minded about sexual

education, family planning and abortion.

Significantly reduce the incidence of teenage

pregnancy.

Eradicate thousands of teenage death from illegal

abortions practices.

With this proposal it is possible to create a society

that’s in favor of useful solutions and leaves behind all

types of prejudices, in order to control the high rates

of teenage pregnancy.
