LEARNING FROM NATURAL PARKS

Where is our school?

When was our school founded?

Our School was founded in 1977 as the institute of secondary education n# 3 to cover the educational necessities of the expansive nieghborhood of Gamonal.

In January of 1981, it was renamed I.E.S. Félix Rodriguez de la Fuente in memory of the famous naturalist of Burgos who had died in March of the previous year in Alaska

What level are we studing in our school?

Comenius proyect in our school

What are we learning in Biology and Geology advance?

1.- What is a Natural Park? - The concept of the ecosystem.- The concept of biodiversity.

2.- Natural Park in Castilla y León.- Types of ecosystems in Castilla y León.- Fauna and Flora of Natural Parks in Castilla y

León.

3.- Our Natural Parks as our natural heritage.- The human effects in Naturals Parks.

What do we learn in class?First. we learn basic concepts in class.

And we take class notes which we use later in workshops.

Moreover, we can take class notes from the internet. Those class notes are written by our teacher.

After, we do practicals in the laboratory. There, we also make models of the Natural Park which we are studing.

we learn to identify birds, fishs, trees, rocks, landscapes and use different types of maps: topographic, geological, vegetation...

Then we can practise our knowledge about biology and geology in three diferent places:1) Nature camps. Our Regional Goverment (Junta de Castilla Y León) has some youth hostels for students in Natural Parks of Castilla y León. There, we spent a week studing characteristics of the Park. For example, this year we went to Sanabria Lake Natural Park.

2) At the end of course, there is going to be a trip to the Natural Area of Demanda Mountains. This Park was chosen to work about it during this academic year.

3) Comenius proyect allows us to travel to different places of Europe. In this trip, we hope to visit Pyhä-Häkki National Park and other Natural Areas of your country.

Why is Comenius Proyectc necessary ?

1) Because it allow us to work with other schools of European Union.

2) It will allow us to raise common subjects about Natural Areas such as the preservation of spaces which have got similar characteristics. For example: both Pyhä-Häkki National Park (Finland) and Villafáfila Natural Park (Spain) are marsh ecosystems.

Many bird's migration routes are common to most of the countrys that take part in this proyect. Their problems during his trip is one

of the subjetcs of our proyect.

Finally, you are able to take a look at the Commenius's blog where we have already upload some projects.
