From Automotive Systems to Smart Mobility Systems: Automotive EE System Design Becomes part of the Internet of Things

KEYNOTE: Jim Buczowski

The keynote will begin with a look at what’s driving the shift to Smart Mobility and the implications to automotive engineering and product development. Key enablers will also be discussed along with opportunities that need to be addressed to create an eco-system that delivers a valuable user experience.

The discussion will continue with an explanation of Ford Smart Mobility and how the company is taking connectivity, mobility technologies, autonomous vehicles, customer experience and data analytics to the next level to help change the way the world moves.

Concluding remarks will offer challenges for the design and EE systems communities and include thoughts on key opportunities to enable the system engineering of Smart Mobility.

Integrating Model Based Systems Engineering Across EE Domains

KEYNOTE: Martin O'Brien

Thought leaders identify MBSE as a solution to cost and quality

challenges caused by EE complexity. One characteristic of MBSE is

holistic thinking, but this is not easy to accomplish. This keynote

presentation shows how true coherency can be achieved across the

core EE domains: software, networks, devices, and connectivity.

Starting from the functional abstraction, brand new technology is

introduced that guides integrated implementation decisions. Though

lightweight for rapid optimization, the data created can be directly

driven into detailed, domain specific design tools. This creates

integrated flows employing MBSE principles that deliver lower costs,

better quality, and faster innovation.

PANEL: Automation Tools Free Engineers to Innovate

The increasing complexity and diversity of configurations in

automotive harness definition and design means that designs must

be accurate and correct-by-design. The result is that innovation is

needed to create new ways to design more efficiently and reduce

costs. But making that innovation relevant is a challenge.

This panel will discuss innovation that is relevant by using

automation to provide feedback on the design, measurement of

important parameters, and to propagate design data from systems

definition to manufacturing and maintenance.
