GBA church when the pastor was sick and then on vacation. So I'm still available to your church if and
when you need me, but if things are going well in
your church, don't expect to see me because I just can't get around to our churches as has been my
habit.
One other positive thing I want to report regarding FBC Clio, the Legacy Church Leadership Team voted
to resume both Cooperative Program and Associa-
tional Missions giving from FBC Clio. There was an attempt in the last church year to resume this prac-
tice, which had ended a couple years before, but they were unable to continue last year. However,
now we are seeing offerings improved and a posi-
tive balance each month. Yet the decision to resume missions giving had been made before we saw the
positive balance in giving versus expenses, because we believe that churches need to give beyond them-
selves. And God is blessing this decision to resume CP and Associational Missions giving by blessing the
church in many ways, one of them being financially.
This is a good reminder that God blesses even more when we are faithful to give to advance His king-
dom, both individually and corporately.
I want to thank you for the opportunity you are giv-
ing me to serve as the Transitional Co-pastor at FBC Clio alongside Rick Bowen. Our goal is to see FBC
Clio once again be a strong witness for Christ in the Clio community, a strong contributor to missions
causes, and a great example to other struggling
churches of what can happen when the members and leaders of a church set aside the control of their
church to give it over to a local Leadership Team whose members desire to see our plateaued and
declining churches once again become strong and healthy. May this become true for all the churches
affiliated with the GBA.
I wrote in my last column about the Legacy Church con-cept and reported that I am now serving along with Rick
Bowen as the Transitional Co-pastor at FBC Clio, which
had voted in March to become a Legacy Church. Things are going well in the church overall. We have a lot of
things to address with the building and property, but we are getting a few things taken care of to make the build-
ing more attractive to first time guests -- which is a big thing to seeing first time guests return.
I think God has brought healing in the church and a greater sense of unity as well. The church family is seeing
small "wins" that are encouraging to them, and they are once again feeling good about their church and are invit-
ing others to "come visit us." This is a good and positive
development.
During the Sunday morning Bible Study time the adults are studying "I Am a Church Member," a small book by
Thom Rainer that Rick and I would like to see all current members and all future members study to help us be a
stronger church. You see, there is more to being a good
church member than merely coming to church and sitting in the pew on Sundays. There is even more involved than
giving to the offering every week. Although those are good things, there are expectations that church members
should meet, including: being Functioning Church Mem-
bers, being Unifying Church Members, not letting Church Be about My Preference and Desires, Praying Strategically
for our Pastors and Church Leaders, Leading our Families to be Healthy Church Members, and Treasuring Church
Membership as a Gift. We have heard good comments
from those going through this study, and it is our belief that this study will lay the foundation for a stronger and
healthier church.
I ask that you to lift me up in prayer as I seek to balance the demands that have come upon me as I seek to
strengthen FBC Clio and prepare them for calling a new
Legacy Church pastor, with the continuing demands of the Association. I miss visiting in our churches on a regular
basis right now, but I feel my focus needs to be on help-ing FBC Clio get stronger and healthier so I can once
again switch more of my ministry time back to the GBA
and our other churches. I am still able to respond to our churches and have preached a couple times in another

HERE’S WHAT IS HAPPENING
Among Our Churches

Pastor Tedd Culver has resigned as pastor at Ainsworth
Baptist Church.
In May Central had a Mother’s Daughter Banquet, revival
and a 5th Sunday Singing. June a Father Son Dinner on the
13th, plus a Youth Trip to Cedar Point on the 19th is
planned. Pray for Church growth.
Eastgate has finished their Awana program for the year.
On Wednesday nights in June a High Power Soccer Camp
for 3ys.-6th grade is scheduled. Pray for God’s personal
provision for Pastor’s family and salvation for the lost peo-
ple encountered through the church’s outreach ministry.
Fellowship started a building program in May with plans to
add a Gymnasium/Fellowship Hall and additional educa-
tional rooms, with the church office and nursery also mov-
ing into the new building. Along with the addition, the
Kitchen and Sanctuary is being expanded.
God is bringing healing to First Clio. There is renewed
hope, new visitors nearly every week, returning visitors, an
increase in attendance and offerings. In April, around 80
people attended the Good Friday Fish Fry followed by a
Good Friday worship service. On September 26th the 5th
Annual Car and Truck Show will begin at 10 AM. Pray for
church’s readiness to search for a legacy church pastor.
First Flushing had a spring revival in May. Pray for the
Pastoral Search Committee in their pursuit of a new Pastor.
To reach the Hispanic Community in Flint, LaFamilia
MC3 hosted a Hispanic Festival in May. They are now
having two Sunday AM Services. In addition they are hav-
ing a Block Party June 20th for their neighborhood.
Open Door has a booth in the Curwood Festival June 5-7th
in Owosso where they will give away water, popcorn, and
cotton candy to booth visitors. They also now have a pian-
ist. Pray that church’s name will spread throughout the
Owosso community.
In May Westside had Kim Hardy, a guest speaker, for their
Mother’s Day service and Pastor Ed took a 10 day mission
trip to the Philippines. Bro. Ron Emmerling was recently
installed as the volunteer Police Chaplain in Clayton Town-
ship.
