Memorial Mass As a faith community, we come together to honor and pray for our loved ones who left their pilgrimage here on earth.

Mass of Remembrance on Saturday, November 11th, 2017 at 8:30 am. If you have a deceased loved one and would like them to be remembered in a Memorial Mass, (their name will be read and photo displayed during the rite of remembrance), please submit the name of your deceased love-one, date of birth and date of death, and photo to the church office, or e- mail: [email protected] or [email protected] Please submit no later than November 8th. 2017 . Reception will be held in the Saalfeld room. Volunteers needed for set-up for reception, assisting with Rite of Remembrance, and ushering. More information please call John Payne 503-659-2760

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who have died so that you may not grieve as others who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died. -1Thessalonians 4:13-14

-1Tesalonicenses 4: 13-14

Formed: Formed is changing lives. In the midst of our busy lives, people everywhere are turning to formed.org and finding the peace and joy that can only come from God. Have you tried it? This week I am reviewing The Bible and the Sacraments! We can now watch session 5 and 6. Remember 3 & 4 cover the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation. Session 5 & 6 cov-er the Eucharist, the 3rd sacrament of the Sac-raments of Initiation. The Eucharist is the “source and summit” of the Christian life,” the Eucharist fulfills the ritual sacrifices of the Old Testament (CCC 1324). Christ gives us the template for the sacrifice of the New Covenant at Emmaus in Luke 24. He shows us how Word leads to Sacrament. I hope you have a chance to watch these episodes. They last less than 30 minutes and are very educational and easy to understand. Online faith formation Parish code :7GGJ7J. Check out the new programs on Formed. Porque no podemos amar a Dios, a quien no podemos ver, si no amamos a nuestro prójimo, a quien podemos ver.

Liturgy Corner Compiled by Pat Raschio (sources Formed, At Home With The Word, Scott Hahn and Loyola Press, Sourcebook) Today’s Gospel is a continuation from the last few weeks and concludes Matthew chapter 22. At home read Matthew 22:41-46. In this verse Jesus ask them a question. The Herodians and the Pharisees asked the first question, The Sadducees asked the second question and today the Pharisee ask the third question. The question requires Jesus to inter-pret the Law of Moses. The Mosaic Law consists of the Ten Commandments and many additional rules, numbering over six hundred. Adherence to the Mo-saic Law, for a devout Jew, is an expression of faith-fulness to God’s covenant with Israel. The ranking of the Commandments was regularly debated among the teachers of the Law. Jesus answers the Pharisees’ question with a two-fold summary. Jesus says that all the commandments can be summa-rized in two commandments: love God and love your neighbor. Both were central elements of the religious tradition Jesus learned from his Jewish community. Love of God finds its expression in our love for our neighbor. Love is the hinge that binds the two tablets of the law. For we can’t love God, whom we can’t see, if we don’t love our neighbor, whom we can see. This is not emotional or sexual love. It is covenant love. The surprise from Jesus’ answer is that He subtly changes the wording. In-stead of saying that we are to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, and might, He says we must love with our heart, soul, and mind. What’s the big deal? What’s the difference between might and mind? In order to know someone, we have to know about them. If we are really to love God, we have to know what God is like—his character and his actions. How can we come to know God? By reading the Scriptures. For if we have never read the Bible, es-pecially the Gospels, we cannot truly say that we love God with our whole mind (as well as heart and soul). We have to especially read the Gospels again and again to truly Know God.

All Saints Schedule: 8:30am & 6:30pm (Both English)

Wednesday, November 1st is a Holy Day of Obliga-tion, All Saints Day. We remember all the saints known and unknown who enjoy the glory of heaven. In the Gospel we hear the Beatitudes, which are guidelines for true joy and the attainment of sancti-ty in our Christian lives. We hear how to live lives of holiness that we may attain happiness in this life and the next life by numbering among the saints one day.
