IIIT Bhubaneswar began its journey when Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, the then President of India laidthe foundation of the institute on 29th November, 2006.Today, the Institute is barely 7 years old.In the world of academics, best known universities are often aged over hundreds of years. In thatsense, we are a very very young Institute.

However, what the Institute lacks from its young age is more than compensated by its senseof purpose, hunger for success, energy and enthusiasm. We have created unique physical andacademic infrastructure at breakneck speed. We have been granted University Status in a very

short time. Our young faculty is hungry for quality research, is passionate about teaching and isknown for innovation and free thinking

The Institute provides an extraordinary environment to create technology leaders of tomorrowand help them face the challenges of the future.

I invite you to visit our campus and interact with our faculty and students. You will enjoy the zestand vigour of our community and we will benefit from your experience, wisdom, knowledge andassociation.

Dr. Gopal Krishna NayakDirector, IIIT Bhubaneswar

The Institute provides an extraordinary environment to createtechnology leaders of tomorrow and help them face the challengesof the future.

I was conceived when the Government of Odisha

decided to establish an Institute with special focuson Information Technology. I came into existence as

a Society in 2006. I was privileged by the presence of

Dr. Abdul Kalam in the foundation laying ceremony.

I was a toddler then in the company of my bigger

brothers in Allahabad, Bangalore and Hyderabad. I

had to grow fast and be counted among my peers.

I started operating in temporary accommodation

provided by the Government. I started offering

Masters Programme in Computer Science in 2007.

After building my permanent home (Campus),

I started offering Bachelor programme in fourbranches of Engineering in 2009. By 2013, I had

nearly fifty faculty members and more than 1000

students staying and studying in my campus. Today,

in 2014, I have a beautiful campus, impressive

academic infrastructure, a bunch of knowledge

hungry academicians and eager & energetic crowd

    of students.

In January this year, I was anointed as a University by

the Government of Odisha. This is the biggest event

in my brief journey so far. This is reinforcement of

the Governments belief in my abilities and my

potential to be a Premier National Institute andlater an International Institute. The University status

empowers me with academic and administrative

freedom to innovate and create value for my students

and faculty. The University status empowers me to

design my own curriculum and challenge students

towards achieving higher benchmarks and greater

    excellence.

I have deeply embraced Technology as a tool for

    transparent & efficient administration, delivery

of knowledge and making learning an exciting

experience. I have sought to leverage the energyand enthusiasm of my faculty and students

to create a community of knowledge seekers,

experimenters and inquirers. I inculcate in my

students human values, sensitive social conscience

and a commitment to create a better tomorrow.

I proud my faculty and students who are imaginative

in conceptualization, innovative in their approach

and are inspiring role models through their

    achievements and success.
