1. INTRODUCTION:
l This report presents partial results of work carried out in the
spring of 1984 by Noranda Exploration Co. Ltd. on a group of
l claims known as Stoughton 1A49. A contract for Reverse
m Circulation Overburden drilling was let to Bradley Brothers Ltd.,
who during the period March 26 to April 17/84 drilled a total of
l 3321' consisting of 46 holes. This report covers the results of 9
holes totaling 516' of drilling. This Overburden drilling program
l was carried out to acquire basal till samples. Anomalous gold
values in these till samples generally indicate a nearby bedrock
source.
2. LOCATION AND ACCESS:
U Just inside the Ontario-Quebec Border, the property is situated
approx. 80 miles (128km) east-northeast of Timmins, Ontario, on
l Lake Abitibi. The north and middle groups of claims are located
in the area of Mistaken Islands which adjoins Stoughton Township
m to the south where the south group of claims are located.
M Highway 101 through Timmins runs easterly to the Quebec boundary
where it is designated highway 388. About 10 miles (16km) east of
l the provincial boundary, a secondary road runs north along the
Duparquet River. 6 miles (10 km) north, a concession road
l provides access to the village of Roquemaure, Quebec. Lake
m Abitibi may be reached by continuing west from Roquemaure. On
Lake Abitibi, boat or snowmobile provides access to the various
l claim groups.Alternatively, the properties may be reached by
aircraft from Lasarre, Quebec, a distance of about 30 miles (48km)
l to the northeast.

3. OVERBURDEN DRILLING:
A. GENERAL:
l l l
Between the period March 26/84 to April 17/84, Bradley Brothers
l Limited was contracted to carry out Reverse Circulation Overburden
Drilling on a group of claims in Stoughton Township. A total of
8 3321 feet was drilled consisting of 46 holes. Nine holes
m totalling 516 feet will be filed at this time.
The principal of Overburden drilling is reasonably simple. As the
l Tri-cone bit is rotating the water or a mixture of water and air
is punped down the outer tube of the drill rods and returns up the
l innertube with the sample. The samples are collected in five
mm gallon pails after the return water and sample pass through a
cyclone to make collection more practical. The sample interval
l and whether a sample should be collected at all is determined by
the geologist logging the stratigraphy.
B. DEPTH MEASURING;
l Keeping a record of the depth of drilling is simply done by
keeping a record of how many drill rod sections have gone into the
l ground. The geologist or supervisor will usually keep an accurate
m written and graphic log of the hole as its being drilled. Because
of the high water and air pressure being pumped down the hole the
l lag time between when the sample was drilled and when the samples
reaches surface is negligible.

l l l C. SAMPLE COLLECTION;
A five gallon plastic bucket is placed directly under the return
l hose and as material is returned it is constantly examined to
determine the type of material; organic, clay, silty clay, sand,
gravel, pebble tills, basal till, boulders and bedrock. As each
l horizon is reached the sample bucket is changed and depending on
the type of material it is either discarded or placed in a heavy
J plastic bag for treatment in the laboratory. Sample interval is
decided by the supervisor on the drill and is usually 5 to 10 foot
~ intervals when in the same material or at odd intervals when there
l is a stratographic change. When bedrock is encountered usually
about 5 feet will be drilled so as to be reasonably sure it is
l just not a boulder.
l D. SUMMARY:
B A successful overburden drilling program was carried out between
March 26 to April 17, 1984 on the Stoughton claim group. 3321
l feet was drilled in 23 days for an average of 144 feet per day.
46 holes were completed with the deepest being 170 feet and the
l shallowest being 15 feet with the average depth being 72 feet.
m The program ran very smoothly, helped by the ease of moving
between holes on Lake Abitibi. Detailed logging was carried out
l at the drill site but to date no detailed inspection,or analysis,
of the samples collected has been carried out.
